I dont want a PS3, I have a PS5 and I pay for a service.
wouldn't surprise me.
you have to remember that this is done by having server farms running PS3 hardware.
that's can't be sustainable for long. does IBM even still produce cell chips? I doubt it. even for servers.
Cell is sold to Toshiba 19 years ago, then Toshiba sold it to Bain Capital 8 years ago and Toshiba ceased to exist as a consumer electronic company
Most likely it will be something like that if it stops being profitable. If not, I don't see why they would chose to close it down instead of selling it.I imagine this is how Steam will end. Just one day you can't log on, no public message from Valve. No longer billing. Just one day it's all gone.
Those few employees that work for Valve will all be laid off and and that big red valve in the office gets craned onto the deck of Gabes new boat as he sails twords the horizon.
so basically... they aren't made anymore and probably noone could make them really.
so yeah,
Sony has to eventually find a solution to this that isn't dependent on Cell processors.
It can be fixed. Look up frankenstein PS3.My Fat PS3 is sitting where the PS5 used to be in the cubby under the TV. But it's just a piece of decoration. It stopped working many years ago.
I keep thinking maybe I'll find someone that can fix it someday, it was one of the 80GB back compat that had part of the back compat in hardware and the rest in software.
4USB ports on the front.
I have not tried to do any emulation with the dozen or so PS3 disks I still have. I would much rather Sony re-release the first party stuff on PC.
3 Ratchet and Clanks and the 3 Uncharted. I also have Motorstorm but I don't know if thats a Sony game It's probly the only offroad racer I'll ever want to play again.
That eventual solution will be the discontinuation of the streaming of PS3 games lolso basically... they aren't made anymore and probably noone could make them really.

Well, there is one solution. Buy used ones from ebay. LOL
PS Plus Premium's PS3 game streaming has remained broken for over a week without official communication from Sony, fueling user frustration and speculation that the PS3 streaming library may be quietly being phased out.
Summary
- The article reports ongoing technical issues with PS3 game streaming on PS Plus Premium, where many users are unable to launch streamable PS3 titles at all.
- Users describe errors, non-responsiveness, or games failing to boot, with examples including Raiden IV: OverKill not launching and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles briefly working via workarounds before breaking again.
- Community-discovered workarounds (such as adding games to a wishlist, launching via the wishlist, or using the PS Plus PC app to add games to the library) initially helped some users but have since also stopped working for many.
- Sony has not released any official statement acknowledging the issue, its cause, or a timeline for a fix, despite the problem persisting for more than a week.
- This silence has led to speculation among PS Plus Premium subscribers that Sony may be quietly shutting down or deprioritizing PS3 game streaming altogether.
- The article notes that PS Plus Premium has already faced criticism for limited value, with monthly updates often adding only a single title, making the loss or instability of PS3 streaming especially damaging to the tier's appeal.
- Reddit discussions amplified backlash, with users arguing that PS3 streaming is a core selling point of Premium and that Sony deserves criticism for allowing it to remain broken.
- Moderators on the PS Plus subreddit removed two posts showing video evidence of the issue after the article was published, which further angered users and added to perceptions of mismanagement or censorship.
- Commenters in the article's discussion debate the broader challenges of PS3 backward compatibility, citing the PS3's complex Cell architecture, high costs, licensing hurdles, and Sony's historical reluctance to invest heavily in legacy support.
- Some users compare Sony unfavorably to Microsoft's Xbox backward compatibility efforts and to the progress of PS3 emulation on PC.
- Others argue that assuming a shutdown is premature and that Sony has a long-standing pattern of slow or nonexistent communication during service outages.
- Toward the end of the comment thread, at least one user reports PS3 streaming beginning to work again in the US, suggesting the issue may be partially or regionally resolved, though no official confirmation is provided.
You will own nothing and NOT be happy. But seriously... why are people making fun of OP? Even if you think PS3 streaming is stupid (I do too), it's a feature Sony sells and he is paying for, and Sony isn't delivering it and nobody gives a shit.
Otherwise they couldn't sell you broken streamingEven the early PS3 didn't have this issue with its backward compatibility, and yet here we are with the PS5 and the only level it can go back to is PS4
