Pachter thinks Xbox One will now sell as many units as PS4

Maybe in the US.

In the UK I feel the price difference it too big given most of the features won't even work either.

As for the rest of the world, we all know how that's going to go.

Should the Xbox One fail to match sales of the PS4, Pachter believes Microsoft is in a position to react.
I'm surprised MS didn't already lower the price immediately after E3, or yesterday. They can certainly swallow the cost. MS' account managers wouldn't be happy, but there's simply no way XB1 is going to match PS4 with its current price.

It took MS being PR stomped by the competition and potential customers shunning them for this to happen. Took too long to make the reversal. We'll see how things work out in the looooong run.

Most of the damage has already been done.

It's a huge step in the right direction. I'd say they've comfortably won the US again in all likelihood now.

I predict the PS4 will outsell the XBOX ONE in every single market this year.

I think I have a better chance of being right than Pachter too.

I keep hearing this, but it's the cost of less than two new games, spread out over 6-7 years. Do people really not think things through more than that?

I have a PS4 preordered with no plans to get an Xbone, but I really don't see $100 at launch as a major factor in the long run. That could easily be made up by a subsidized SKU or any other number of factors.

I mean at launch-->first year. I didn't mean over the course of the generation.

I love these sweeping statements..

I'm also in the UK and the reaction was actually ok. I'm getting one, so is my brother, cousin, brother-in-law and 2 of my friends. Why? We all enjoyed Xbox as a platform this gen. Positive messaging can do wonders.

It's incredibly expensive in the UK, even more expensive than the PS3 was at launch in 2007. Also, the TV features won't work like they do in the US.

I'm not even sure this would be true for UK. £429 is absurdly stupid pricing

Definitely. £399 might have been seen as reasonable, but £429 is just a rip off. A lot of people are not happy about that price.

I think the first console to get to £299 will win in the UK though, and based on the pricing model from Sony and the GBP/JPY rates I think Sony will reach it first, maybe even by end 2014 if it looks like they can go for the jugular.

So you're all going to pay more money, for worse games (multiplats will perform worse on Xbone) and a weaker first party. I guess you must really like Halo and Kinect...

Even if both consoles costed the same, PS4 would lead worldwide. Sony has a pretty fanatical following. Considering that PS3 launched costing $200 more, being 1 year LTTP and still managed to catch up and overtake X360 in global sales, speaks volumes about power of the Playstation brand.

I can see power struggle in US and UK, perhaps even Xbone victory in USA, but the rest of the world is Sonyland.

Patcher could be right but it also depends on who has more available in the supply chain. Wouldn't be suprised if Nintendo sells more than both Xbone and PS4 this holiday due to that factor alone.

So the $100 gap is completely negligible to pac? SMH
i don't see MS cutting XBO by $100 next year, $50 at most if they do cut in 2014. If they cut, Sony will cut, and they both get into a costly price war, and i am sure MS don't want to lose that kind of money this gen.
I think they will eat the DRM mistake, but thats all they are going to give, i don't think they are in it to lose money on the XBO at $399 or $450? They will hold on $499 and just deal with it. PS4 wins but XBO remains relevant.
They know all they had to do was correct the DRM issues, but dropping to less than $499 in the first year is something they are not planning for, so don't count on it pac.

Not at launch it won't. More units at launch and 100 bucks cheaper is still a big fucking deal. Xbone might have a better exclusive launch lineup, but people won't be buying consoles this holiday to play Dead Rising or Killzone.

not with that price it wont

Why? The hardcore who played strictly 360 for sports/COD/BF will be right in line for it, especially now. The extra 100 is for the Kinect, which some obviously don't want, but it is cheaper than buying the first Kinect.

so GAF what does this mean? XB1 runs wild like the nWo or XB1 flops? because we all know this statement eliminates the possibility of the sales of the two consoles being close...

Based on all we've heard about XB1 having low shipment numbers this year I certainly don't think they will match them in sales this year or early next year until they can get their production issues sorted out.

Pachter may be right. Think about it, a hell of alot of Xbox loyalists (fanboys) were gonna buy a PS4, just because of the DRM and always on policies. Now that Microsoft has wisely changed course, those xbox 360 user base will now more than likely purchase a Xbox One. It's gonna be close, but I still see the PS4 selling slightly more. Why? There is plenty of Sony Playstation loyalists (fanboys) as well, and Micrsosft won't have a year head start this time around. Looking at the pre order figures, Microsoft has some serious catching up to do, in terms of pre order sales.

In australia the xbone is $599 and ps4 $549 so price difference is a measly $50 and we already pay on average $80-$100 for a new release game!

At this exact moment. Looking at it now, all the Xbox One games and controller are trending up on Amazon (US). All the PS4 games and controllers are trending down.

I also checked Amazon (UK) just now....didn't expect a big change. Turns out the Xbox One, the controllers, and the games are all trending up. The PS4, it's controller, and it's games are trending down. Surprisingly.

In fact the Xbox One has now passed the PS4 (at #3) to the 2nd position.

**Edit: I've been informed that we're not to do Amazon sales posts outside of a certain thread. I did not know this. This shall be my first, and last anywhere other than the main thread. For any others that missed it, they go HERE.

Xbox went from a joke, to being a laughing stock.

Their terrible messaging only intensified with their reversal.

I can't see how PS4 won't take the lead WW, Xbone won't be available in Asia until late 2014. Comparatively small market it may be but still has a sizeable presence in sales.

We are confident that with six months of focused messaging, Microsoft can fully level the playing field with Sony

The only thing everyone from Microsoft has a focused messaging on is the cloud... yuck!

Everyone in North America associates Call of Duty of Xbox, so it'll be super popular this Holiday season.

Heh that may change if there's only 1 Xbox One available for every 5 PS4's.

Sony would need to just lie down and die and stop selling PS4s for Microsoft to overtake them in the first year.

Supply, demand, price and consumer trust are all on Sony's side. Microsoft can pull themselves together in the US but I think WW it's a lost cause from the beginning.

If he's talking about worldwide, he's wrong. Sony is much stronger outside the US/UK and the price is much cheaper.

I agree.
I know that US is always under the attention of press, users, people in general and so on, but outside US and UK even the PS3 with its initial problems compared to the Xbox360 sold way better.
Now the comparison between PS4 and Xbone is much easier for Sony than before

A lot of the people who decided to preorder PS4s because of DRM were just looking for Microsoft to give them an excuse to switch back, it seems.

Sad.

If Sony gains momentum in the US for the first two years, they're pretty much going to be unstoppable.

Japan=It's a done deal.

Europe=It's not even a contest.

UK=Absurd price point.

..while gladly ignoring the 5 PS4 SKU bundles?

"okay"

PS4 to Xbone preorders were 7:1. Just getting on the same DRM policy doesn't make it equal or leading out of no where.

I still say the PS4 will sell more consoles units than the Xbox One. Sony has continually dominated in sales overseas, especially in the UK, Europe, and Japan. Now Sony will be highly competitive with Microsoft on their home terf of America, and with both console coming out around the same time (Oct-Dec)...not to mention the PS4 is $100 cheaper. I just don't see The Xbox One selling more units than the PS4.

Or PS4 hardware/software was already clogging up the top 10 for the last 2 weeks almost. If Microsoft wasn't getting stronger preorder numbers immediately following their turnaround then I'd be really concerned for them.

Both consoles will still sell through their first few shipments but if Microsoft is having yield issues, it still doesn't matter and PS4 will pull ahead with a much larger install base this holiday.

Just a quick FYI so you don't get a ban:

Kev, from a different thread:

Guys, this is the last warning. The nonsensical Amazon chart watching goes here and no where else. Do not post it in other threads.

Xbox went from a joke, to being a laughing stock.

When both these consoles launch, the thought of DRM will be a distant memory in most consumers' minds.

Don't forget, the first big exclusive game sold will be TitanFall. No one will care about DRM that was announced and immediately removed a year ago.

A lot of the people who decided to preorder PS4s because of DRM were just looking for Microsoft to give them an excuse to switch back, it seems.

Sad.

Why is that sad? Do you really find it so inconceivable that people could be interested in a DRM-less Xbone that you think it's 'sad' that now that the DRM is gone people are willing to buy it?

I'd say they have a chance now, where as they were DOA last week.

The loss of the DRM means it's just a matter of are the games + kinect worth the extra $100. Expect MS to market the hell out of the thing, and keep people from even talking about the power gap between the two consoles.

Sony better hit hard at gamescom and TGS to get folks hyped.
