PAL Charts - Week 07, 2009

let's not get carried away here.

Heh, precisely.

Deadly Creatures almost certainly had a tiny shipment though - nowhere I've tried has it in stock despite having all other new releases, and the few major online retailers I've tried don't seem to have it either.

Wow, I did not know that Amazon has such an impact on German videogame sales! Boom Blox is back since it's costs less than 10 EUR there.

i dont think amazon is even counted in Germany, and if it is, it has extremly small part of sales there.

Depends on where you are I guess. My local Mediamarkt had a few copies last week. I was actually surprised about that :lol

my local mediamarkt had completely overestimated the demand at launch. they had as much copies of boom blox as they had for smash bros brawl initially... wouldn't be surprised if the didn't sell out of the first shipment :/

:lol Amazon.de has an extremly huge Part of the Sales
Since its 9€ there, its in the Charts!

Nobody questioned that amazon has a huge part in videogame sales in germany.

The question was, if and how media control/gfk tracks online sales and especially amazon and if the charts refelct this.
People have asked this before and wondered if the charts we see every week, only reflect mediamarkt et. al. sales.

GFK does track online sales - but how?

They do it via their gfk Web*scope programm which works in 2 ways. They have typical households and consumers that track and report their sales and also have industry partners like online retailers that do also track and report. Based on this data, they calculate the sales via a compley algorythm.

Since this calculation process is related to a given timeframe and dependent on the partners, it wasn't clear if amazon shorttime bestsellers will be reflected in the weekly charts. Since it is in the charts, I guess we can assume that gfk tracks amazon sales very well.

Or is any other big chain or retailer selling boombox that cheap right now?

Yay for House Of The Dead: Overkill. The game really deserves it, and I hope it will keep on selling great. Sega must be happy, Wii is really good for them (especially in the UK)

SFIV PS3 > SFIV 360

And HotD did move up one place despite four new releases charting in front of it. Not bad.

/edit/ And DQv is nowhere to be seen. Not even in the DS full price charts. ;_;
Thanks for the numbers! :)

I am alittle surprised to see that the PS3 version of Street Fighter 4 sold more than the Xbox 360 version, but i guess that next week the Xbox 360 will chart higher than the PS3 version. Hasnt that almost always happend when a PS3 version sold more than the Xbox 360 version of a game in the first week, at least in the UK Top 40 charts?

It is nice to see House of the Dead going up one place! :)

It is a pity about Dragon Quest V :( Maybe the sales will pick up in the next week, or in the weeks to come :)

Yeah, just like FF4 DS, Dragon Quest 4, and Chrono Trigger climbed up with time.

That is completely awesome, most other light gun games actually fell in their second week and I am not sure any have been inside the Top 10 (HoTD Overkill is #9 on the Indiv chart)!

I'm glad Street Fighter 4 did so well. It's an excellent game and great fun.

Absolutely no sign of Deadly Creatures, and I actually got to see some copies of it about this time. Jeez, must've been a tremendous bomb.

Nice position for Overkill, despite 4 new releases. I'm quite glad that it appears to be doing well. Good for SFIV too. Would like to see actual numbers for everything though.

The consistency that we've seen in the charts so far this year has kind of been disrupted during this week, due to 4 new SKUs in the top ten, so good for PS3 and 360, and in terms of the weighted chart, bad for Wii. Refreshing to see a bit of volatility again.

No surprises this week except for a stronger than expected chart position for House of the Dead. Good to see the so-called "mature" titles doing well on Wii like the REs did too -
I'll resist making a joke about it being half-term week

8. Race Pro X360

Proof that Britain loves its racing games. Vrrrrrrrooooom!

Surprised about the SF4 placements, be interesting to see the Chart-Track write-up to see what the difference was between them.

THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2 & 3 RETURN
Weekly Ranking
Week 1= 15th
Week 2= 14th
Week 3= 22nd
Week 4= 30th
Week 5= not ranked

It has sold at least 100k since it has the silver award or whatever.

HoTD Overkill started out higher at 10 and has actually moved up to 9, unless it drops massively next week I think its well on its way to beating all the Wii light gun games with some ease

Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter IV’ knocks ‘Wii Fit’ down to No2 in the All Formats Chart, becoming the fastest selling traditional beat ‘em up since the All Formats Chart began back in 1997.

53% of sales were on PS3 and 47% on Xbox 360, making it the biggest selling All Formats No1 of the year so far. February seems to be a good month for Capcom who have now had an All Formats No1 in February for the past 3 years (‘Devil May Cry 4’ in 2008 and ‘Lost Planet’ in 2007) and it can only get better for the cult Japanese publisher who will be celebrating 30 years in May, as they are due to release the highly anticipated ‘Resident Evil 5’ on March 13th. Sales of ‘Wii Fit’ are up 20%, keeping it ahead of the next highest new entry, THQ’s ‘Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II’ on PC which debuts at No3. Publisher D3P enters uncharted territory as ‘Ben 10: Alien Force’ becomes their first ever title to enter the All Formats Top 10, up from No13 to No4, ahead of ‘FIFA 09’, a non-mover at No5 and ‘Call of Duty: World of War’, down from No4 to No6. A new entry for Sega at No7 with ‘Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection’ means that unusually all Top 7 games are now from different publishers. Nintendo however are still a force to be reckoned with in the All Formats Top 10 with ‘Mario Kart Wii’ down from No6 to No8 and ‘Wii Play’ down from No7 to No9. After debuting at No2 last week, ‘F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin’ suffers in the face of strong competition from Xbox 360 and PS3 newcomers, down to No10. Another one of those newcomers is ‘Race Pro’ from Atari on Xbox 360, new at No13, one place behind a strong 2nd week from ‘Disney’s Bolt’, up from No40 to No12. Sales of Sega’s ‘House of the Dead: Overkill’ are up 30%, but with 4 new entries ahead of it in the All Formats Chart it remains at No15. ‘50 Cent: Blood on the Sand’ is the 5th and final All Formats Top 40 new entry. Dropped by Activision-Blizzard after its merger with Vivendi, the THQ published game debuts at No22, while the previous 50 Cent title (Bulletproof) debuted at No5.
