‘Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2’ strikes it rich at the top of the All Formats chart, awarding Ubisoft their first All Formats No1 of the year and giving the Tom Clancy franchise its 5th All Formats No1 (previous Tom Clancy No1’s were ‘Splinter Cell’, ‘Pandora Tomorrow’, ‘Lockdown’ and ‘Warfighter 2’).
The tactical shooter records 77% of sales on Xbox 360 and the remainder on PS3 with the Xbox 360 version selling 3.6 times more than the original had achieved on Microsoft’s next-gen format back in December 2006. ‘Rainbow Six: Vegas 2’ becomes the 4th fastest selling Xbox 360 game in the UK, behind ‘Halo 3’, ‘Call of Duty 4’ and only 1,000 units behind Ubisoft’s very own ‘Assassin’s Creed’. Despite a healthy 60% jump in sales, last weeks No1 ‘Mario and Sonic’ has to settle for second place.
Activision claim the next 2 positions with ‘Call of Duty 4’ up from No5 to No3 and ‘Guitar Hero III’ up from No7 to No4. Renewed stock propels ‘Wii Play’ back into the All Formats Top 40 at No7, while EA’s ‘Army of Two’ is the only All Formats Top 10 title to lose sales, down from No2 to No8. ‘Sega Superstars Tennis’ manages to get its first serve into the Top 10, new at No10. The appearance of the Wii version of ‘CSI: Hard Evidence’ means a re-entry for the Ubisoft game at No24 and an improved second week for the film tie-in ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ from Vivendi leads to its first Top 40 showing at No26. Easter promotions push amongst others ‘Cooking Mama’ from 505 Games and Sony’s ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ back into the Top 40 at No’s 29 and 30 respectively.

More than likely, the Vegas 2 debut knocked Army of Two 360 down so far because of its overwhelming popularity on that platform, whereas it was less of an event on PS3, so it had less effect on Army of Two's sales.

Next week GT5 Prologue could have an effect on other PS3 games though. :lol

I don't know how to feel when Brain Training games are constantly dominating the charts. I like to root for Nintendo, cause I like their games and overall approach, but really, I can't condone such nonsense!

By the way, when did the Brain Training games come out in PAL regions? It feels like they've been on top of the charts (in several countries) forever. PAL's probably the best-selling region for them by this point...

360 price cut was last week.

GT5P will dominate the charts next week, I expect even #1 in every country. Game is being heavily marketed on TV here in the UK, and it's seriously cheap, less than half the price of other PS3 games online, at just £17.99. Also near the top of all the pre-order charts on online retailers. I don't see how it can be anything other than huge.

Price cut of the 360 seems to be making a difference with 360 games appearing higher in the charts of non uk charts for the first time in a while.

Some people may be content just sticking with their 360 and Forza 2. Despire this, others may not be able to resist the urge to go out and buy a PS3 with GT5P this Friday.

What has Forza 2 to do with this at all? It´s not like Forza 2 was on PS3.

People who like racing games buy racing games. There is a pool of potential customers and it is undeniable that Forza 2 has reached them. It has a huge marketing campaign, great bundles and performed well.

I'm not saying it has killed Gran Turismo, that would be naive, there's definitely a core audience of people who had to make the choice between 360 and PS3, those PS3 owners will obviously choose GT5:p. They won't be able to afford or justify both consoles, and I think that will have hurt Gran Turismo.

I know a group of non gamers and one said at lunch the other day "oh did you see that Gran Turismo? it has 16 players online, pretty sweet" and the others say, Forza 2 did that ages ago, even the original XBOX had that. All of these people used to be huge Gran Turismo fans, one got the IA license for me, they now play Forza instead.

Anecdotal I know but there has been a big gap between GT4 (plus it's prologue) and this, things haven't been put in a time capsule.

I'm not sure how you are going to determine if Forza 2 killed GT5 Visualante.
If/when GT5P does 1-2m worldwide, it's still on par for what we would expect for a Prologue. You will have to wait for GT5 in 09 to see what Forza has done to the GT crowd.

If anything, I'd say that MS flat out giving away Forza 2 for the last year will dissuade a least a few fence-sitters from dropping the money on prologue.

I honestly doubt it. While I think a marketplace can easily sustain two games of a similar genre and approach, only the most rabid of fanboys would ever say "I have A, so why would I need B?" Forza and GT each offer some pretty significant things in their own right.

I don't see how anyone on Earth with a PS3 can look at the GT5P footage and not want to own it, no matter how many LOST VW Golf's they've bought off me on Auction House.
