So tried to do a comparison with France but they only reveal Top 5, still some interesting things

---------------------------------
I would say the bundle effect is probably strongly helping the XB1 SKU of TF in the UK but even so the 360 version is holding very well and XB1 TF would still probably have decent legs

Infamous is going down but I think it's still doing quite well though
---------------------------------
*NA is not applicable for weeks the SKU wasn't available. Edited my german comparison so it reads the same

**NC means SKU didn't chart within rankings [UK is out of 40, Germany out of 50, France out of 5]

Nintendo? More like Nontendo or did someone say that last week (I thought it was a highly original play on words, do not steal).

Nintendo might want to consider being a bit less rigid with their price reductions. Nobody wants to pay £30+ for a game that's been out over a year.
I'm not even sure that would help a great deal. Their two dead systems are where a lot of their install base is. Saying that invokes the whole 3DS was best selling system of last year statement though but even that is against Xbox 360 and PS3 which have built an install base over 5+ years.

What is the next 3DS or WiiU game possibly charting? MK8 is 5 weeks away.

Edit: Kirby : Triple Deluxe maybe? I don't see Etrian Odissey or Mario Golf charting
If I had to put money on one of those 3 3DS games I'd have to go with Mario due to Kirby being largely dead outside of Epic Yarn and Mario Party Island Tour surprising me with its charting (though maybe it says more about when it was released).

"If we devalue software, then the consumer will as well"

At least they've learned their lesson. Stuff like Steel Diver, Pilotwings, Brain Training and Nintendogs+Cats can't be full priced in a post-iOS world.

The consumer isn't buying software in anything like the quantities of DS and Wii though, esp in the UK...

Titanfall has legs, that word of mouth is spreading.

I'm not sure how to feel about the UK XB1 SKU due to the bundles

The 360 SKU seems to be holding well although I have to admit it being number 1 this week highly suggests fairly low software numbers all over I would imagine

The consumer isn't buying software in anything like the quantities of DS and Wii though, esp in the UK...

Oh i know that, the days of evergreen DS games charting for years are over. Just putting Nintendo's reasoning out there for the ways they price their games and keep them at those prices forever.

They seem to be changing their stance, but as with all things Nintendo they are glacially slow to change.

It's a little worrying to me seeing digital series like Trials make the hop, successfully to retail. I appreciate some people like owning the physical copy.. I have Siren Blood Curse on disc for that very reason but... it just feels a little backward to me.

Is it going to undermine what the game was originally about?

How? What has the 360 physical release [soon to include PS3 physical release] of Minecraft changed about it? Hell it added local split-screen if I'm not mistaken

Digital seems backwards to me, you're giving people money for something that doesn't exist, no residual value whatsoever.

There's still no EU demo for Trials by the way, I wonder if this will affect sales one way or the other. I'm going to wait until retail ones are dirt cheap

Titanfall is bundled for free. If it didn't have those freebie bundles, sales would tank.

Who wouldn't choose a free game if they are getting an Xbox One?

TechnicPuppet

Nothing! I said nothing!
I thought Infamous might have been higher this week with bundles back in stock. Apart from that no real surprises in the chart.

Principate

Saint Titanfall

But the X360 version is doing well... it's also the the biggest exclusive game on XB1. I wouldn't exactly sales would tank since there's clearly a fair bit of interest in the title. Those million sales in NA launch month clearly didn't come just from bundle and UK is a similar market to NA.

So I added a comparison of how the SKUs in question are doing in France above

Obviously France only gives Top 5 SKUs so not as useful but still interesting

From that it would appear,

ISS is holding quite well in France, the XB1 SKU of TF seems to be holding less well there then in the UK [albeit bundle effect is hard to determine], hopefully 360 SKU will say more about its legs

Yoshi's new Island seems to be holding well popping back into the Top 5 twice. France seems to have a stronger Nintendo [or at least 3DS] presence than UK and even Germany I think

more importantly, the France charts are by value not units
you know what that means? Yoshi is doing better than the chart indicates, add another country to the Yoshi>Titanfall list :p

Ugh all my work for naught

I guess I should indicate that somewhere

Also I think it's Week 15?, Yoshi's New Island made more revenue than ISS did on PS4 lol

yeah, France is easily Nintendo's strongest European market, and for handhelds, probably its best one outside Japan (relatively of course)

I think I've found the real source of Nintendo's issues in the UK guys

I'm glad Trials Fusion did well. :D I guess being fairly cheap compared to every other new release must have helped. Probably the same reason Ground Zeroes is still selling.

Added Italy's results for comparison. Looking at their charts in a week by week comparison, they appear to be almost as strong a Playstation nation as Spain.

ISS is doing very well there. Titanfall falling to the wayside quickly. Yoshi's New Island holding very well too though

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
We've talked so much about how UK market is difficult for Nintendo these days, but the last weeks have been so staggering in showing the differencies: in the other European charts, 3DS has at least one game in top 5/10 (if not 2). In UK, no game in top 40. And we're talking about big countries like France and Germany too (last year, around as big as UK's videogame market). So much that...I need to ask a question to you, Uk gaffers.

You see, in the last months, I've seen lots of 3DS ads on children-focused channels in Italy (like Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, K2, Boing, etc.etc. - I've also watched some of them on channels like Fox and Sky Sport, IIRC). And for a lot of games: Pokémon, Luigi's Mansion 2, Yoshi's Island among them. And they're going on, and on, and on. I've even seen different ads for Pokémon: one aimed to girls, another for boys and the third one, for everyone. These ads have an effect on charts: that's the only reason why LM2 was back in top 10 once in Italian charts, IMHO. And YI is still receiving ads. And...one of those channels is going to re-air Kirby's cartoon. Yeah, just a little before Kirby Triple Deluxe is out. What are the odds?!? :p

My question is: is the same in UK? Do UK TV receive costant ads for 3DS games on TV channels, especially the kids-aimed ones? Or NoUK just don't care and the TV presence is quite reduced compared to elsewhere?

This East Midlands thing needs to become a PAL charts meme lol

edit: wait, where are these value charts people occasionally refer to

Infamous continuing to hold very well in Germany

PC version of Titanfall back on the charts, XB1 version. Nowhere to be seen

Yoshi putting all others to shame with those legs

I'll update my comparison table in a bit

Huge increases for 3DS in Germany. Either sales are slow or some deals/advertising is being amped up.

I think I might do another comparison for Germany a bit later today

So a free hour at work today was very productive
/s

First 16 weeks of German Software Placements
----------------------------------

----------------------------------

I thought 16 weeks would've been enough to see larger trends but I'm not convinced there is too much interesting insight within these graphs to be honest.

I should note week 2 apparently only had Top 20 so I adjusted it to Top 50 but I should probably just cut out the first 2 weeks.

As for things I noticed, 3DS is the only thing holding Nintendo afloat in Germany if you look at the last graph and compare Nintendo Home consoles and All as 3DS is the difference.

Otherwise XB1 doesn't seem to be doing too differently in Germany than the Wii U from what I can tell

Also assuming software sales are highly aligned with hardware sales for new consoles, Week 10 and 11 would suggest PS4 was crazy OOS in Germany for the first 2 or 3 weeks of Germany

Oh and yeah double post...

Bruno, those are software unit sales I take it?

Wow at PS4 accounting for like 1% of Nordic software sales but I guess it was only out a month in 2013

So....Vita hardware sucks in France, it's software sucks in UK+Nordic countries, why are we assuming it's doing so much better in Europe than in America again?

Yes, they're units sales.

Thanks

Graphs are interesting. Software sales on PC would appear to hold the same market weight as X360 but looking at revenue, clearly doesn't. Although I guess there are extra costs with retail games and all that

So....Vita hardware sucks in France, it's software sucks in UK+Nordic countries, why are we assuming it's doing so much better in Europe than in America again?

Because it's so bad in the US that's its hard to imagine it doing worse?

I guess?

Good grief at Vita software sales across the Nordic countries.

I'd like to think they are so bad because most people buy digitally, but those memory card prices...

well I assume the European total would be better just like PSP was (like 2x or so?), but from some people's reactions you'd think it was doing like 5x better or something

Well selling 50k Vita's in the whole of Europe during the month of March doesn't sound that hard....

I mean between Spain, Portugal and the East Midlands that's like 14k right there

Someone asked me for UK charts of Software Placements so here you go :)

--------------------------

Note that this only counts how many software SKUs each platform has chart any given week and does not account for placement [i.e. 2 high selling SKUs can be worth more than 5 low selling SKUs] although generally the platform that has the most software placements has the most software sales [higher chart positions]

Interesting things I saw

  • Nintendo Home Consoles are dead in the UK, 3DS isn't fairing much better if you look at the last graph
  • 360 is consistently placing about 5 more software SKUs than the PS3 does weekly
  • PS4 is charting more software SKUs than the XBO is
  • In the last chart, PS family had more software placements than Xbox Family in Week 13. Guess why? Vita :) PS4 + PS3 = 18, XB1 + 360 = 18, Vita = 1

Because men lie, women lie, money doesn't lie.
But yeah, I've heard some unfounded "statistics" lately about consoles' performance, recently the Vita in Europe, that's made me question where exactly people were getting their info from.

Very interesting statistics. Too bad it's a PAL thread, which tend to not be busy, so there won't be much discussion about it. I actually didn't know the X1 hadn't launched in those countries.

So everything seems to be really down. Is this a YOY comparison? Oh, I think it is.

PS3 seems to be holding even. 3DS is a little up. Wii U doesn't really count. The Wii is still selling a lot more software than the 3DS which doesn't sound good. But at least the 3DS seems to only really be dead in the UK.

The PS4 is closer to the Wii U than it should be, which is sad. And I don't even know what to say about the Vita. Since it's up a bit in Japan and down most everywhere else, I wonder if it's down or up WW.
