<3k for a AAA release in the UK is pretty much the death knell for current gen gaming in the UK. It's launch week is about 10x worse than Sniper Elite.

I would say it's far away from an AAA release. Has there even been a big marketing push?

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/2m-games-sold-in-uk-during-quiet-april/096009

The UK games retail market was down a third in a tough April for the trade. Retailers made £45.8m from software sales last month, a 34.1 per cent drop over the same period last year.

Just over 2m games were sold at UK retail, a year-on-year decline of 33.2 per cent. However, there were significantly more games released in April 2011, including hit titles Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat.

Last month’s highest charting new release was Microsoft’s Kinect Star Wars, which reached No.2. Activision’s Prototype 2 managed No.5, despite only being on sale for two days when this data was collected.

EA was the No.1 publisher once again, with FIFA Street established as the month’s biggest selling game. EA had five titles in the Top Ten. Xbox 360 was the leading platform. Nintendo enjoyed its own success as Wii, 3DS and DS grew in market share. All data is courtesy of UKIE/GfK Chart-Track.

PS Vita hardware sales less than a third of the PSP after 10 weeks

Official Chart-Track data paints stark picture for Sony

PS Vita hardware sales are less than a third of where the PSP was at the same stage in its life cycle, official Gfk Chart-Track data has revealed.

Based on UK sales for the first 10 weeks, Sony's PS Vita handheld has, according to a well-placed industry source, shifted just over 100,000 units since its launch on February 22nd 2012.

Although Chart-Track declined to reveal the precise sell-through figure, the company's business group director Dorian Bloch confirmed the PSP had sold 3.5 times as many units as PS Vita achieved after 10 weeks on sale.

Bloch urged caution on making direct comparisons between the two systems.

"[PS Vita] was launched at a traditionally quiet time, and [PSP] was launched in the build-up to Q4," he told PocketGamer.

Bloch also noted that PS Vita costs an average of £54 more than the PSP, at £232 versus £178.

PSP was tough act to follow

By way of comparison, the Chart-Track stat guru pointed out that the PSP holds the UK record for the fastest-selling console in week one, as well as the record for the least number of weeks to achieve a one million user-base in the UK, at just 24 weeks.

Assuming the PS Vita takes 3.5 times longer to reach the magic one million mark, it will be late next year before Sony can expect to celebrate that milestone.

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
So....the power of flight has just about run out for Pit in Europe?

In Germany, it has been top 10, around it for a while. UK, it charted again. Unfortunately, for other charts, we have just top 10 ( even just top 5 in France ), so it's difficult to judge.

Seems like the UK and US are Microsoft's only big markets. 360 games are basically completely absent in the charts everywhere else, it's all Sony and Nintendo, even though the cheapest 360 model is significantly cheaper than the PS3.
I wonder why that this?

Seems that the success for the predecessors really have an effect on the launch sales. PSP and PS3 did really great in the UK at launch, coming off of the very popular PS2. Same with the 3DS, had a strong launch coming of the popularity of the DS. PS Vita comes off PSP, so it seems to follow a pattern at launch.

Thanks, though taking into account sales probably curved downwards we are probably looking at 2 or 3k a week now

Which frankly is pretty scary for the vitas future. Sub 10K a week in Japan, possibly sub 20K a week in the US (and rapidly dropping) and maybe as low as 2-3K a week in the UK. Sony need to make a big move and fast if they don't want the vita not to flop big time.

Unless sony have some massive announcements coming up at E3 i have no idea how they plan on moving 10 million vitas in a year.

I'm inclined to believe the 10 million forecast was put into appease investors who may not know much about the video game market just to show a ray of sunshine amongst overall terrible results (and coming off last years 1.8 million shipment and late launch could look believable to less clued up investors) and Sony probably hope that when it comes to slashing that forecast later the rest of the company will be doing better so the investors don't get too angry

Free oral with every vita sold. It could be done by price slash and a good future lineup.

Is that German Diablo III number the aggregation of all copies sold at stores that broke street date? Because otherwise that would be very, very low.

It really would be nice to get some numbers from Germany. UK is crashing so hard that even though German market is also probably weakening it could be already bigger than UK.

The chart includes sales from 05/07 to 05/12. So, all Diablo sales that are accounted in that chart have happened at least 3 days prior to its proper release.

Argh. Where is the subscription info? I'm not seeing it on their site, but I'm an idiot. :p

Edit: Found it.
http://free.yudu.com/item/details/524751/MCV-Subscription-Group

Does this get me a PDF? I like having local copies. :(

Edit 2: No idea what the offline version does. If it's a Windows/MacOS app, I can't do that.

It's some crappy app which needs an internet connection to connect to the server to authenticate each time. Don't like it either, will have to see if I can convert to pdf or some other format, probably not easily I'd imagine.

Using the Offline Version of your edition. (PC)

• Open the edition;
• Select “Options” on the toolbar;
• Download offline version;
• Save File > Desktop/Documents;
• Locate the downloaded Zip folder, double click to access and select “Extract Files” from toolbar;
• Check the box “show extracted files when complete” and hit Next;
• Upon completion of extraction a new folder window will appear, enter the folder within and double click the XXXXXX.exe file to run the offline version. (where XXXXX is the name of the edition)
• When prompted with the “Open File – Security Warning” box, select “Run”;
• Please note: If the edition you are viewing in the offline reader requires a username and password to access it, you must still have an internet connection to authenticate these details.
• “Offline Version” is a term used to describe the edition viewable outside of a web browser, and not independent of an internet connection.
• For further information and help using your offline version, please use the “options” button on the toolbar > Help.

(MAC)

• Open the edition;
• Select “Options” on the toolbar;
• Download offline version;
• File will download to your default downloads folder
• Locate the downloaded Zip folder and move to desktop/documents folder;
• Enter the folder and locate the Application file with the YUDU logo associated with it (this should not be an .exe file)
• Double click the Application file to reveal the security prompt – Select “open” and select “open” a second time to launch “reader”.
• Please note: If the edition you are viewing in the offline reader requires a username and password to access it, you must still have an internet connection to authenticate these details.

It's pointlessly annoying DRM, already made a PDF out of it thanks to portrait orientation, some free software which autosaves print screen, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.

That's a ridiculous amount of effort. Guh.

I love how Diablo charted before its release.

Fixed.
But still, UK is right now the territory where 3DS does worst, at least on the software front. The difference with other European countries is particular.

Shouldn't this be full of PC games?
