Great hold for TLOU, intrigued to see how well it launches in Japan now

From what we know it's going to be a good seller in Japan too, for the kind of game it is. Sell-through is high and the game should open with over 100k at least.

It's been absolutely obvious that we can stick a fork in the Wii U in terms of being a mainstream success of any measure for weeks now.

Eking out profitability and selling to the base is absolutely going to be the focus.

I'm not so sure, all of them (with the exception of 2005 onwards Nintendo) have at some point allowed their big studios or funded studios to work on original IP that may or may not be successful.

ND struck gold with Uncharted, which allowed them to do TLoU. Success is key.

I agree about Nintendo, though I think it started way earlier than 2005 if Rare's experiences are anything to go by, but the others?

Microsoft may be coming up with new IPs but they're all from new studios or partnerships. All their established studios are working on their established franchises and the biggest studio they had negotiated themselves out of the company because they didn't want to work on Halo for the next 20 years.

Activision's somewhat similar. They may be publishing Destiny but that's a new partnership. Everything else is the same old.

I'd go into EA and Ubisoft but I don't want to go on forever.

But that's not to say that I agree with the idea that Sony's the only company that ever would've published TLoU. I think Square Enix and Take 2 would've, if they owned Naughty Dog. They're both pretty great when it comes to giving their developers the creative freedom and time to do whatever they want. Sure it tends to backfire sometimes with bad games, enormous budgets or both but we've still managed to get great games like Bioshock, Spec Ops and Deus Ex: HR out of them.

TLOU should be #1 for a while. You can see this game really resonating with the mainstream with the amount lets plays on youtube and twitch. Good job ND and Sony. Also really nice seeing GOW:A still charting.

Sad news regarding the Wii U software sales. I suspect it will be even dreadful this holiday season not due to new gen, but primarily because of GTA5. It will hurt Nintendo so much not having that title on their console.

That seems high. What kind of numbers did the various uncharted game do?

ND is great and all but they're nowhere near Rockstar or Valve.
Eh, I'd take ND over both. I didn't even know they existed until this gen but they've totally blown my socks off. I can't help but feel like Rockstar have fallen off a bit (although I'm sure GTA5 will correct me on that).

Of course, it's all personal preference ultimately.

Quite happy that TLOU is selling so good, abolishes that notion that IPs don't mean anything this late in the generation. ND's a force to be reckoned with. one of the top studios around.

Na, not really, GTA IV was a bit disappointing (still good game though) but Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3 were both amazing.

The developer behind it is not very big, so it might have still done well depending on their expectations. No idea.

yes they have a big output and they release several games per year but being so low in the charts means that they sold really bad. remember fuse?

I don't remember how sbk and wrc games did.

German chart, Week 25, 2013

If I read it correctly, Moto GP for PS3 is 23rd

That's correct. Preorder charts and next gen:

MS 180 moveseems to have worked out. Forza 5 entered the preorder charts on #15. Only Xbox One title in there.
#03-#05 are Fifa 14, Watch Dogs and Destiny (all PS4). Killzone 4 is on #8 or #10 (I forgot). #1 is the new The Sims addon and #2 Company of Heroes 2.

TLoU marketing budget must be huge. Never saw so many TV ads for a game. But I don't watch TV often.

Are non Sony consoles banned in Greece?

MS added Greece to xboxlive in late 2010. Sony was there with PSN at the launch. Nintendo was never that strong there - it's a playstation country. PS 1 was huge back in the days. Probably because of piracy.

First news from UK

Sony and Naughty Dog’s PS3 exclusive ‘The Last Of Us’ (-35%) remains at No1 for a third consecutive week. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 edition of ‘Minecraft’ debuts at No2 and Nintendo’s 3DS ‘Animal Crossing: New Leaf’ drops down 1 place to No3 after 2 weeks at No2 (-25%). EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ also drops down 1 place to No4 although sales rocket +43% over last week thanks to the keenly priced 360/PS3 versions. There are a further 3 new entries within the Top 10 this week: debuting at No5 is EA’s ‘The Sims 3: Island Paradise’, the 10th PC Expansion Pack in the series and the second this year, after ‘The Sims 3: University Life’ back in week 10. Right behind and new at No6 is Activision/Blizzard’s Marvel Comics ‘Deadpool’ for 360/PS3. Completing the new releases is Sega’s ‘Company of Heroes 2’ on PC, new at No10 and which becomes the 7th game to be released on a Tuesday this year (the last being ‘Defiance’ back in early April). The original ‘Company of Heroes’ debuted back in September 2006 and was developed in Canada by Relic, at that time a THQ studio (also known for ‘Homeworld’/‘Warhammer 40K’ games). The follow-up is still a Relic-developed title, but they are of course now a Sega studio.

You know its still hard to find this game in stores. My local supermarkets and game did not have it in stock for two weeks. The hell is wrong with them.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

How many countries is the last of us number 1 in?
I've not kept up with the charts, but what's up with tomb raider doing so much better than bioshock infinite?
edit: strike that, what's up with bioshock having such poverty stricken legs? Games with high metacitics (90+) usually do alright long term right?

TLOU still nº1 everywhere it seems and only a 35% drop in the UK is not bad. A lot of people are complaining that it's hard to find so it could probably have been even less.

Tomb Raider was the better game IMO. It certainly has more mass appeal. Glad it's doing well.

Good for ND.

I wonder how many units did TLoU sold so far.

I've heard it was sold out in most shops here in my country. That's the first time I've heard a PS3 exclusive sold out.

Awesome for Naughty Dog to have the game selling like crazy!

I live in the States and I simply cannot find a copy anywhere near me. I've been to 2 Best Buys, 2 Targets and a couple more GameStops and they're ALL sold out. I can't remember the last time I couldn't get a game on launch day due to selling out, let alone a week+ after it's been out!!! Crazyness!
