Thanks to the start of the London 2012 Olympics Sega climb to No1 for the first time in 5 weeks on chart with ‘London 2012: The Official Video Game’(+25%).

‘Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes’ (-8%) drops to No2 after a 5 week unbroken reign at the top and Sega can also celebrate the success of ‘Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games’ which climbs 5 places to No3 (+21%) – a best ever chart position for this title, which has been out for 38 weeks on Wii and 25 weeks on 3DS (previous best was All Formats No4 in week 7 this year, the week after the 3DS version launched). Nintendo’s 3DS XL launched on Saturday 28th July and is only the 2nd videogame hardware format to launch on a Saturday, the last time was for N64 on 1st March, 1997.

There were also 4 new 3DS software titles launched this week of which 2 are Nintendo first party, also launched on Saturday 28th (New Art Academy & Freakyforms). However, it is only Nintendo’s ‘Pokemon Conquest’ on DS that makes the Top 40, in at No17 - the Pokemon brand is currently the 10th biggest unit shifter of all videogame brands tracked over the last 15 years. For the record, the only new 3DS title to make the 3DS Top 20 was ‘New Art Academy’ at No9, one of the few titles that are exempt from PEGI ratings.

Wow at 3DS's domination in France and Netherlands!

I'm expecting something similar in Italy for the week 29 (quick edit: and I'm wrong ^^) and a good boost overall for the 3DS in Europe in the coming weeks. A week 30 with a 3DS top 5 in France, knowing there's no big releases on the other systems, can even be something possible.

and that's before the launch of the 3dsxl (while in UK it's included).
probably summer time is good time for portables.

Speaking of which, in next months we'll probably have some good numbers from new Art academy, that's a perfect fit for the huge screens of 3DSXL; first one for DS was sold-out for some time on English/British websites and I understand it sold decently in other European countries as well.

Seems Square Enix made the right decision by launching Kingdom Hearts alongside the 3DS XL. It's riding the bus masterfully.

There's a breadth and depth to the 3DS software in the UK Top 40 that we haven't seen for a while.

I count at least two non-Mario games.

Good to see SEGA games in the top spots. I hope SEGA's fortunes turn around with their upcoming releases because them going digital-only will upset me more than when they left console development.

For those wondering, KH BbS was 22nd in its second week, while 358/2 Days disappeared from the UK Top 40. VERY good second week in UK, and now it's time for US.

Oh, yeah, I hope we'll get numbers of 3DS XL European launch soon.

22nd in in 2nd week two years ago is probably not much worse than 6th now. Remember it sold less than 11k last . Either way it doesn't seem like the XL launched amazingly well.

Considering KH BbS did less than 11k in its first week too, yes, it's much worse being 22nd than 6th. For the XL...just one day counted, and many games had a good bump. If someone could give us UK numbers, however...

plus you have to consider the state of the platform (i.e. almost dead PSP versus the still very young 3ds)

It's likely around 20K, which might be ok numbers relatively but nothing to scream about from the rooftops in terms of absolute numbers for a franchise as big as KH. Certainly not "VERY good".

It's UK, and KH isn't a big franchise in UK. Never over 100k.

I'm the only one surprised and impressed (and scared) by Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier for 360?

2/3k (probably) is a good bump for a launch day? I'm pretty sure the XL will do well, but we need to wait for next week chart and for NSMB2.

I'm not sure if you are saying this as good thing or a bad one. Selling as much on a dead platform then on a new one is not a good thing for the new one...

It really depends on the userbase numbers. It has done fine enough from where it stands, I think the numbered KH titles were the only ones able to make it over 50k mark in the UK.

Correct.

The UK top 10 is interesting (granted the absolute numbers probably aren't significantly different). However, I think it sums up the console/handheld situation in the UK.

Xbox- 6
3DS- 2
Wii- 1
PS3- 1

Still no Vita titles in who knows how long in the top 40 as well.

I'm saying the numbers are nothing to be too happy about. It did decent and performance-wise did about the same as BBS. But it is lagging behind BBS in Japan big time, which is a bad sign so we'll have to wait for the US perfomance to see how well did the game do overall.

Vita's userbase really prevents the titles from having any legs (same thing with 3DS pre Christmas last year). But every high profile Vita game is in top 20 at worst, usually in top 10 so it's doing ok software wise.

The DS owned Britain for a while. I just don't see the need to celebrate a 3DS title selling like 6-7k in its 2nd week . The game was also probably inflated by the XL launch as well.

The market is such in the tanks it doesn't matter either way. In terms of units, there isn't a huge difference between top and bottom.

But that happen with basically every game, I was surprises that a lot of people bought this game over other ones.
I've this feeling that even + 200 or 300 is a "good bump" for the UK market atm... ^^
Can't wait to see Uncharted Vita reentering the chart at position 36 selling 3200 copies instead of 1000 during the psvita price cut and see all the people saying that he has a good bump. lol

I completely agree with everyone.

I'm not sure about good, the problem with Vita is that it doesn't really have a lot of new release.

Nothing to deny about Japanese performance. And fortunately we don't have to wait too much to know "numbers" in US ( :( ) And I agree too about the fact we have to see how 3DS XL will behave in the following weeks.

Never said good, only 'ok'. Vita needs a bigger install base and an evergreen title like LBP or GT for the software to stick around for longer.

Sorry, I really thought that I have read good. A price cut in the future can surely help to increase the userbase. Let's see what LBP can do without it, on amazon.it is dated for the 19 of september, so not a long wait.

probably all of those three benefit from the XL.
KH is taking advantage of the new console for sure: is holding up well in PAL charts.
