The 2008/9 peak boosted by incredible sales on DS & Wii will never be repeated in the dedicated hardware market.

If you cut down to just the mainstream third party multi-platform (PS/XB/PC) market then maybe we can see an increase, but then you also have the decline of retail PC software sales (probably at least or more than made up for by digital PC sales) to make up for.

Anyway, as you say the market is gradually shifting to digital, so YoY comparisons become increasingly less and less relevant to anyone bar physical retailers. Chart-Track and/or Ukie need to sort something out as far as tracking of digital sales is concerned. They did actually have a Physical+Digital PC software chart a little while ago, but that seems to have been quietly dropped.

Also, here is some useless anecdata from Germany this week.
Media Markt had a buy 2, get 3 sale on everything media (movies, music and games), and i went to buy games. 3 things:
1) Nintendo is moving its storage to a new location, and since a few days that has resulted in no refills for Nintendo games and consoles for retailers, at least according to the nice employee who tried to find me a copy of DKTF to no avail. He said Nintendo claimed it would not affect supplies - but they lied! It did. Especially with the sale, the Wii U section looked worse than ever, with only the really shit games left. SM3DW, DKTF, Zelda WW and Lego City Undercover were nowhere to be seen. Mario Kart was nearly gone. Hyrule Warriors was still decently available, but seemed to be in good demand. Not that it means these sold more than normal - I expect their stock was not high in the first place. I expect every other plattform to profit from that sale. But lol Wii U.

2) Everyone and their grandpa bought FIFA 15. Of note is, that while the sale was going, people bought FIFA and nothing else. People do not care for anything else but FIFA. I do not expect the top 4 to change for Germany at all next week.
