GT5 is way past 1 million in EU now, from what we know roughly:

UK 550K
Germany 100k
France 235k
Finland 40k
Spain 92k
= Over 1 million

That is a very conservative estimation though, we don't know Australia and New Zealand numbers, what Spain has done this month, France past the first week etc so it's not a stretch to say it's past 1.5 million in EU by now. End of it's going good numbers in EU, going to eat through that first shipment with no issues at all. Good Just Dance 2 numbers as well, amazing how that series has become a beast in a little over a year and then same old stuff doing well besides that.

You are adding sales of 4 weeks of GT5 in UK with 1 week of sales of GT5 in other countries.. :S

Just for reference - for those that aren't in the UK - the percentages this week are AMAZINGLY bad for the UK games market at this time of year due to the Fri Sat snow.

People (in 4 different none games high street shops that I know the final takings for) that I know were reporting around half to a third of the normal takings for a Sat, and that's ignoring the fact that the Sat before Xmas is usually the biggest takings day of the year for the games industry.

Snow really screwed over retail here in the midlands and it is likely to have similarly done so anywhere that had the same snow/no public transport that we did.

I expect all those presents to be bought in the next few days instead so hopefully we will see a rebound.

Otherwise there was discounting on NFS, and a fairly dull chart.

Merry Xmas EuroGAF!

OT: We've had no snow at all this winter where i live :)

Kinect actually moving up in the charts.

Not surprising.

In the UK if you want to buy a 360 you're practically forced to buy the Kinect bundle.

Single 4gb sku's are like gold dust.

MCV release some further analysis of this weeks chart in addition to the piece on the top 10 yesterday.

In terms of overall units: Wii > 360 >>>> PS3

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/42341/Nintendo-dominates-pre-Xmas-week-sales

MCV chart analysis shows unit sales for Nintendo console games almost half the market; Wii beats 360 and PS3

So in our chart analysis of games sales during the last big spending week before Christmas has shown Black Ops at No.1, with Wii Fit Plus and Just Dance claiming No.1s of their own.

We've seen PS3 score a huge chunk of the top ten sales - in the face of a fairly stagnant market.

But perhaps the biggest success last week went to Nintendo's.

More games were sold for the Wii during the week ending December 18th than any other platform - the console scored almost 30 per cent of the market in unit sales terms last week, putting it just ahead of 360 and with some distance between it and PS3.

Plus, when you include DS unit sales, Nintendo formats claim almost half the week's software sales.

(In value terms, it's actually Xbox on top in terms of single formats due to the higher price of the software, but Nintendo formats overall still come out on top when combined in that sense.)

It's a wake-up call for anyone that has supposed Wii and DS have lost momentum - even if there has been a challenging year-on-year in terms of hardware sales for the market, DS is still the bestselling console, and software for both platforms has been strong.

There are four Nintendo exclusives in top ten of the chart that decides the Xmas No.1 after all - Wii Fit Plus, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Professor Layton and the Lost Future, plus Ubisoft's Just Dance 2.

Where on earth in the UK do you live? You lucky sod. I ruddy hate the snow. :(

South Lincolnshire coast. East Midlands. Well i say we had none at all, we had about half a centimetre :p It's hilarious to watch the rest of the country grind to a standstill.

A little bit - I wonder if that's because the word is out that Kinect Sports and Dance Central are the games to get, and while Kinect hardware sales are staying relatively flat due to supply, the software people are buying with it are starting to trend more toward the better titles.

Or if there's really not any change, and the sales have hit their balance point for the time being, and we're just seeing minor fluctuations around them.

MCV-researched stats show Sony software selling best, thanks to GT5 and multiformat titles

Sony always said its long-term strategy would pay off for PS3 - and this week the Xmas charts prove it.

I am getting dizzy from the spinning.

I braved the weather and the crowds to have a quick gander at the shops today.

Are retailers seriously selling Donkey Kong for £43? Madness.

Always happens in the last week before Christmas, especially in Game/Station; GT5, NFS and Blops were all selling for RRP today.
I'm not so sure about takings being down though - town was heaving this afternoon.

Little update from Finland: both Kinect Adventures and Sports Champions hit gold last week. That's 10k copies for each. Pretty surprised that Kinect achieved that, considering there hasn't been even 1 TV ad so far and its price is 169€ in most stores. :lol

Wii games are holding up very good. DKCR, Sonic Colours, Goldeneye and Epic Micky are all showing outstanding legs.

and 3rd party games don't sell on the Wii...

Been game shopping twice this week went down to Game in Oxford street on monday and wished i hadn't. :lol

But i needed to get something, The snow seems to have made everyone come out to do any game related shopping now lest the snow returns and fucks up the roads and trains again.

Also went out to my two local game shops earlier this afternoon to get my final Xmas pressie for my GF some MS gamerpoints. GAME was fairly busy but Gamestation was packed with people the fifth circle of hell is how to best describe the scenes in there.

"completely" is a bit of an overstatement. My point remains the same even with the real figures. It dropped 60% but remained in the top 1, then dropped %2 and %4. So yeah... might point remains the same.

I think Nintendo will continue to push new software on the Wii early next year. It seems they're finally gaining some lost ground. If they can keep the train going all the way to the holiday season they'll have a great year but it seems that they can't be caught sleeping on the job considering the weak third party support. An ideal situation for NoE would be a one game a month but even if Zelda makes it in March it'll be hard to keep up the pace but that's certainly what they're aiming at right now.

It pretty much goes beyond spinning and into blatant lies.

Its ridiculous. The high 360 sales have brought PS3 games into the all formats top 10 and pushed out Wii titles. It then has GT5. Its a load of bullshit.

Umm you do know MCV this right?

That's what confuses me, it's not surprising people are acting like it's a Sony press release, it reads just like one at their most desperate.
The point about 360 games being the main reason those multiplat games appear in the top 10 in the first place is a good one, hadn't dawned on me originally.

I assume you meant MCV wrote this, but that doesn't change what I said. It might explain why they felt the need to put out the second release to correct the first. "MCV-researched stats show Sony software selling best" while in reality Sony were last by some margin. :lol

Why woud Sony have to be desperate they are doing well in Eruope.

Well yes it's the figures we have, I don't have the god given ability to pull numbers out my arse which some like ioi possess. We only get a little bit of info for the UK charts, besides that absolutely nothing, that said it is 4 weeks of UK and one week for the other regions so the game is well past 1.5 million at worst.

The first MCV article was just about the Top 10 chart:

MCVUK.com said:
The UK games charts published by UKIE/Chart-Track show that last week the combined sales of PS3 games listed in the All Prices, All Formats top 10 outnumbered those games sold on 360 and Wii.

Sales on multiformat titles such as UK No.1 Black Ops, FIFA 11, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Medal of Honor were all in the mix.

But it was format-exclusive GT5 that pushed the sales figures higher. The long-in-development game made it to No.1 two weeks ago, and held firm in the top ten, at No.6.
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/42324/PS3-rules-UK-Xmas-Top-10

The other article (this one) talks about the total software sales, not just the all-price, all-format top 10 one. Call it spinning, but the articles seems correct :)

EDIT: I fixed a typo.

That's how spinning usually works. The article may have been completely unbiased look at the top 10, but with all the data available to them it seemed like they were trying to be generous.

Loudninja said:

Everyone's doing well in Europe. UK Software sales are worse for Sony's platforms than the others, unless you only look at the top 10 games, that's all.

Well, we are looking on one of the top5 selling weeks of the year. So going up in the chart should mean a healthy rise in sales numbers.

He could have mentioned "top 10" in the same sentence to avoid any possible missunderstanding, that is true, i agree. But to be a bit fair, he did link to the article before saying that and the article's headline is "PS3 rules UK Xmas Top 10", so i think that maybe he just ment to refer to that article :)

Seems that you haven't been watching any TV in a while. There's a lot of advertising for Kinect on the TV and in other media, so the idea of selling 10k isn't farfetched.
