PAL Charts - Week 9, 2012

I read in some thread here that the UK is supposed to be the 2nd largest gaming market in the world. Looking at these abysmal numbers that doesn't make any sense at all, especially when comparing them to the Japanese charts.

Are there reliable numbers for other EU-countries? With these low numbers I'd assume that either Germany or France probably sell more games than the UK.
It was for a short period (mostly due to the Wii dying in Japan but not in the UK).

It's still a reasonable amount bigger than any other EU country at the moment.

The first PC Download chart for the UK:

UKIE estimates they are covering 40% of the PC DD market.

Interesting that they went to the pubs instead of the DD sites but I guess if they couldn't get steam on board then it would be hard to get remotely decent numbers. Obvious lack of Activision games there though so it might be just as useless in the long run.

So if Uncharted dropped 71% and is at best 14000:

14000 / 29 = 483 (1%)

483 * 100 = 48,276 (100%)

First week = 48,276
Second week = 14,000
LTD = 62,275

Even in a best case scenario that doesn't seem that great, though I assume U:GA will continue to be in the top 40 for awhile in Europe.

SSX ploughed its way to the top of the UK games retail Top 40 chart this week. The long-running snowboarding franchise from EA returned for the first time in five years. Not only did it make it to No.1, but it was a comfortable lead, selling around four times as many units as second-place FIFA 12. It’s also the first time an SSX game has topped the chart at release.

I must have something wrong in my data. I have unit sales down 31% from the same period last year. Anyone else keeping score at home and can chime in?

Edit: The writing obfuscates the meaning. The first line is about YTD unit sales. The second line is about just the single month of February. And YTD units are down 29.3%.

Vita released last week of February;

February Software Value: £54,900,000
SCEA Bend Software Value Market Share: 2.0% (£1,100,000)
SCEA Bend PS Vita Software Value Market Share: 37.2%
PS Vita Software Value: £1,100,000 / 0.372 = £2,950,00
PS Vita Software Value Market Share: £2,950,000 / £54,900,000 = 5.4%

Which means this must be units;

The data takes in game sales between January 29th and February 25th, so includes the first monthly Vita data. Vita games accounted for over four per cent of the market last month, with Uncharted the biggest seller, reaching No.14.

So somewhere between 4%-5%, hopefully we get the usual monthly report down to 1 decimal place next week, but in the mean time we can take the middle figure with a margin of error of 10%.

February Software Units: 2,314,424
PS Vita Software Units: ~4.5% (~104,000 +/- 10%)
Uncharted: Golden Abyss Week 1: 31% (~32,000 +/- 10%)
Uncharted: Golden Abyss Week 2: -71% (~9,400 +/- 10%)
FIFA Football Week 1: 18% (~19,000 +/- 10%)

So that means Uncharted is <10,340 this week. Which would also mean that M&S is also below that. I guess some of those numbers could get fine tuned a bit.

To be fair neither 3DS games have been faring that good in Denmark, Sweden and Finland - unlike Norway - for that matter.
True, but you'd like to think that hardcore gamers can at least get buying games right... and it is only the first week after release. They shouldn't be disappearing yet, especially given how slow this time of year is for games sales in general.

Seems to be a lot of info in there, but my... uhh... Czech? isn't so good.

I would like to have a look, but since I cannot open PDF documents right now, have you got by any chance an alternative link or a summarizing articlee?

What's Out Today? w/e March 9th, 2012

BioWare's critically acclaimed sci-fi trilogy comes to a climax today with the release of Mass Effect 3.

The action RPG sees players rallying the entire galaxy to fend off the invasion from an ancient alien race. Those who have played the original Mass Effect and its sequel will finally be able to experience the consequences of the choices they made in the earlier games.

Meanwhile, history is made in the fighting genre as the two biggest beat 'em ups clash in Capcom's Street Fighter X Tekken. Namco Bandai is working on the follow-up, Tekken X Street Fighter.

Also out this week is Asura's Wrath (Capcom), The Sims 3: Showtime (EA) and Unit 13 (Sony).

Very nice find BKK, thanks. :)

I'm still waiting for the ADESE-file to make another "Worldwide Revenue" - comparison thread. :)

The anticipation

http://ukie.info/content/ukie-week-10-2012-uk-video-games-charts

EA are No1 again this week but this time it is the return of the hotly anticipated ‘Mass Effect 3’ that claims the Top Spot, amassing more sales than the previous four No1s (SSX, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, UFC Undisputed 3 and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning) making it by far the biggest No1 so far this year. In fact Mass Effect 3 (which has been released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC simultaneously for the first time) has outperformed the previous two iterations week 1 sales combined. This means that last week’s No1, ‘SSX’ (-49%), has slipped down a place to No2 followed by Capcom’s new release, ‘Street Fighter X Tekken’, at No3 which sees the two franchises going head to head for the first time (Namco will release their own version called Tekken X Street Fighter some point in the future). It’s EA again at No4 with ‘FIFA 12’ (-7%) bouncing back down to No4 with Nintendo’s ‘Mario Party 9’ (+8%) also down two places at No5. The third and final new entry (and EA’s fourth title) in the Top 10 is the expansion pack ‘The Sims 3: Showtime’ debuting at No6 and Sega’s ‘Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games’ (-14%) is just behind at No7. Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’ (-23%) is down a place at No8, Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed: Revelations’ (-15%) is staying firm at No9 and 505 Games’ ‘Zumba Fitness’ (-4%) sees at return to the Top 10 after a five week absence at No10. The only other title to breach the Top 40 is Sony’s ‘Unit 13’ which has debuted at No15.

Unit 13 is surprising, but seeing Uncharted and FIFA going so down is not a good sign for Vita.

Multiplatform games always sell better on the X360 in UK. Drastic Mass Effect 3 difference comes from the fact that PS3 didn't have ME1 and got a late port of ME2. Bioshock (1&2) performed similarly.

Mass Effect 2 (360) did 90K week 1 in January 2010 - which was apparently almost double ME1's week 1.

So ME3's debut should be at least 135K.

Yep. I said this would happen a couple of weeks ago for similar reasons, but was shouted down.
