PaRappa the Rapper 2 |OT| My Buns Are Very Toasty!

Whoa, didn't expect a PS+ discount. I don't have Plus right now anyway so it doesn't really matter, but anything to sweeten the deal for others is fine by me!

Anyway, entries are now closed and I shall now pick the winners and reveal the answers. Give me a few minutes!

I was unaware there was even a Parappa 2. I fully played through the first game and was aware of Unjammy Lammy. How did I miss this coming out back in 2001?

I loved Parappa 1 and Lammy, and I was definitely well aware of Parappa 2 on PS2... but I have no recollection of why I skipped it. I saw a few comments in the PS4 announcement thread saying that Parappa 2 is a piece of crap compared to the original, so that must have been it. I still want to check it out now, though,

So, the answers.

1. Lammy's trigger word? Who could forget "CASINO here, CASINO there, CASINO in my hair!" That's right, it's casino.

2. PaRappa's mom, now we're getting into some real shit. Some people answered "the picture on the wall in PaRappa 2", but actually that is not his mother, just some other relative. No, THIS is his mother:

Yes, that firefighting dog dancing in the background of Stage 2 in UmJammer Lammy! How do I know this, you ask? Well, Rodney Greenblat did a short series of PaRappa comics only available online and in Japan, and in PaRappa's story this panel appears...

(And on a side note, if you ever wondered what PaRappa and Sunny Funny's kids would look like... wonder no more.

3. PaRappa's alternate costumes are from episode 13 of the anime, Stage 4 of UmJammer Lammy (in PaRappa's Cool Mode), and episode 2 of the anime, respectively. I also accepted simply "the anime" as an answer for the Funky Gi and Prom King, as well as PaRappa 2 for the Astro Suit, as PaRappa does appear in the outfit during a cutscene.

4. This was a tough one, but the winner of the create-a-character contest was Metragnome by Dominic K. Some people gave me the answer to other PaRappa contests, one of which I didn't even know existed. I wanted to give them a point for the attempt, but that would have put at least one person into the running for the $10 and I felt that would be cheating the people who legitimately got it right. Sorry!

5. Finally, who is that mysterious character who never came to be in the PaRappa series? Take a look at the walls outside Club Fun and you will see...

That's right, it's Pony Pony! Maybe in PaRappa 3...

Out of 12 entries, only 3 people answered all five questions correctly, and the two picked randomly were...

Piston Hyundai and Rated-G! Congratulations, I'll PM you your prize shortly. (And a special shoutout to Lambtron for being the one other person to get every question correct.)

Man, had no damn idea about #2 (I said in the room in Parappa 2 during stage 2). Now I'm disappointed I only got 4/5.

..........aw crap, I said stage 3 for the space suit when I meant 4, damn it.

Haha, man that's some bad luck on my part! Ah well. I'll be buying it tonight anyway, and it was fun to look that stuff up.

I don't know who wrote the songs for this game but I wouldn't be surprised they got lyrics from random guys down the street.

I started the download like 30 minutes ago and it's less than 1/4th done... curse you slow internet!!!

Now that I think about it Stage 3 would also be sort of correct wouldn't it, since PaRappa's lack of a Master Onion rap means that his "Stage 1" is really Stage 2 and so on. I don't think anyone lost solely based on that technicality though.

Oh my god! I won? Awesome! I was worried I got the contest question wrong because it was the only one I had to use Google-fu for to verify I had the name spelled right, and there's like no information about the winners of that contest left on any PlayStation site.

Forgot this was on the way, downloading now. I do prefer the first game but I'm more than happy to play this, particularly when it's only $7.49.

hmmm dunno what to get, EU or US version as heard PS2 for EU aint up to scratch, borders, speed issues?...
I can't speak for resolution and precision as I've not played a Parappa game besides obsessing over the demo of the first as kid, so I can't say for certain if it's the game or if it's me that's lacking (although I think it might be me, which is a positive), but there are no borders at the top or bottom of the screen, and I've not noticed any frame rate drops.

I think it's fine.

Also, make sure you guys have all those stupid marketing features on your HDTV turned off. Btw, you should have that shit off to begin with anyway since it prevents proper tv calibration.

This should help with input latency.

I remember that I played demo version on PS2 many years ago. There was some catchy song about burgers. Really liked that. I wish I had this 20% off coupon on PS Store, only got 6.50$ on my Canadian account wallet. I don't want to buy that on my main European account due to possible problems with PAL version. Also, there is no PS+ discount here in Europe.

Are sweeter than idols, do damage like machetes

Love the soulful and funky soundtrack of this game. I passed on it back in the day due to lukewarm reviews despite really enjoying Parappa 1 and Um Jammer. I'll definitely be rectifying that error soon.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
A bit OT but was this the only PS2 game released in the last 2 weeks?

It probably won't happen because of licensing issues, but how badass would it be if we got Frequency and Amplitude right around the release of the new Amplitude?! I'd love that...

Haven't gotten a chance to play the game yet, but I may stream it later this evening.

The first set came out on a Saturday, so they probably counted as the next week's releases. We might get a weekly release, a la the Virtual Console.

That would be great! I'm hoping Ape Escape 2 and Dark Cloud 2 (which have been rated) pop up before the end of the year.

Parappa showing up today was great, especially with the discount.

Speaking of the discount, I noticed that it doesn't list an end time for it on the store (unlike, say, the Holiday Sale discounts or the FF7 discount, both of which were clearly marked). Maybe there will be permanent Plus discounts for PS2 games?

Finally, I get a chance to play! The textures are a lot more pixelated than I remember, but I guess that's just a result of the visual enhancement. It looks great either way.

How does it play? Any lag or delay issues?

Let the fears be finally put to rest, because I sense absolutely no lag or delay issues. It's not even like PaRappa PSP where the timing indicator was slightly off but you could still play properly as long as you timed it to the music, both the visuals and sound are equally valid for timing your button presses here.

Plays great. Definitely less lag than the PSone and PS2 Classics on PS3.

This is great, can't wait to get home and give it a whirl. Gives me high hopes for other rhythm game releases.

I had fun with this, but it's interesting to see how the games landscape has changed since it was released. This would definitely be a $15 or $20 downloadable title if this came out new today.
