Are the accusations all over the web that the game is pay 2 win accurate?

Not sure how that is possible given there doesn't seem to be anything gameplay-affecting in the microtransaction store.

EDIT also, 110% sure your question is asked about every fucking F2P there is nowadays, no matter whether it is possible or not (like DOTA2...)

Huh, my client was running with integrated graphics according to Nvidia driver but the game claims actual graphics card.
EDIT pretty sure the game's claim is the correct one...

I'm pretty sold on the game and figured it wouldn't be, but seeing so many people worried and commenting about it made me a bit uneasy... but I know I can always count on Gaf to deliver the truth.

Btw, since this is f2p I might get some friends who are usually to cheap to get involved to come along... will this run on their older laptops? They can run DotA 2 (which is all I play with them), for reference.

Goddamnit... third double post this week.... sloppy. Sorry.

Well, it didn't have anything gameplay-affecting now. But i'll be cynic and doubt it will stay this way...

I'd guess they can play this then.

How do I merge my existing PoE with steam?

There is an option when you launch the game through Steam but it's not working right now, what you can do is the following:

Fix for using steam account
http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/546833/page/3

this worked for me:
I'm really sorry for the inconvenience! We'll be patching in a fix for this issue later today.

In the meantime, this workaround is a good option:

1. Login with your non-Steam POE client. If you uninstalled that, you can redownload it and copy your Content.ggpk file from Steam over to that directory.

2. Login.

3. Enter your unlock code.

4. Login again.

5. Exit.

6. Launch from Steam.

I did it that way just as it is listed and it worked finally! It was about a 25mb download only.

D1/2 (well, D2 more than D1) look nice, and relatively clear (though arguably because they don't have much stuff on screen compared to more modern games). This... just no.
Perhaps i should try dropping all the extras (shadows, post-processing), keep high resolution and up the texture filtering. Doubt it will make the game look any cleaner/clearer though.

I like the fact that it's not clean and clear. The game is dark and dirty looking. That's a good thing. Diablo 3 was TOO clean. Even the Spider den was goofy and unreal looking. The Spider Lair of Path of Exile is spooky and itchy.

You can have dark and spooky while keeping it clear and clean.
PC Diablo 3: That one filter "mod" that adds much contrast and desaturates the game. Keeps the cleanliness of Diablo 3 but makes it feel much darker.
But as i noted (last page final post), removing post processing and shadows helped. Still one ugly game...

EDIT when it is hard to distinguish stuff on the screen, the game's graphics are bad. Or badly designed. Or something like that. This game does suffer from that a bit.

The only gameplay affecting thing you can buy is a boost of storage with labels. It's 20$ and it add 7 more storage room with labels. This do not change the gameplay and you have enough rooms anyway from the base.
So no, it's not P2W. It's all cosmetic stuff and you cant buy boosters or anything.
You can buy pets, cosmetic upgrades for items or cosmetic stuff over all like blood foot print even skins for skills. But nothing else.
You could buy a 1000$ thing to create/design a unique that other people may drop. But you wont get the unique. And they have the final word on what you can and cant do with your unique.

I prefer Torchlight 2 or Path of Exile to Diablo 3 design wise. Torchlight 2 is clean and cartoony while Path of Exile is grim dark and dirty. I have fun with both too. But hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Came back today for launch, started playing Scion on Nemesis, having a total blast. The added abilities are really cool,

Man, I totally forgot how much you need to plan a build ahead of time though. I really don't know what to do with Scion, or rather if doing what I want with her is viable (or less viable than going another route).

Eh, if all else fails. I'll die and remake. Leveling isn't all that slow.

Never called Diablo 3 beautiful game. It isn't really. But if there's one thing Blizzard can do right, it is clear graphics. Never have issues distinguishing things in their games. Well, aside from a mass of players in WoW...

Hmm. Any "holy" powers/spells in PoE?

Can you respec? I assume that costs real world money if so?

No, you need Orb of Regret. It grants you a respec point. It's hard to respec in this game from what I remember. But some quest givers also give out respec points as well. There are no "full respec" options like some games though.

ed: Forgot to mention that it's an in game item. You can stock up on it if you don't need it or use it as currency to trade for other items with NPC merchants.

Oh that's cool. I'm impressed a F2P game didn't go for the obvious money grab of having people pay for respecs...

You will get about a dozen respec points by playing through the difficulty levels, enough to slightly modify or tweak builds. After that you'll need to find or trade for Orbs of Regret.

It's still best to plan your build beforehand though. The big choices to make are

- what kind of weapon or spell you want to use
- what element/s you want to specialise in
- what defences you want to predominantly use (life/armour/energy shield/evasion)
- what keystones are central to my build

Getting that sorted first is crucial. As you play you'll discover a whole lot of synergies with new skills that you might want to tweak your build for, or start a new build based around it.

Protip: A rookie mistake a lot of new players make is going too offensive early on. We all love one-shotting mobs but don't underestimate the importance of defences and resistances.

What? In every topic on GAF that talks about positive aspects of F2P or give examples of the most consumer friendly F2P games Path of Exile is on top of list.

Where did You even read that?

Is there no way to turn off global chat? Do I have to enter a chatroom for myself to have that stop popping up in my view? Is there no 16:9 resolution options to play this fullscreen?

Press enter and you can remove Global chat and Trade chat. I play the game in 1920x1080 without problems.

I was able to turn off (uncheck) global chat and put 16:9 via the in-game option/control panel?

small and stupid question: I already have the beta installed in my PC. The 1.0/Steam version is completely separate, isn't it? Do I have to uninstall the beta? Sorry if this has been answered before! :(

I see that this annoying glitch it's still in. I have my taskbar at the top of my screen and in full screen windowed three game gets pushed down out something.
And you still see the taskbar. Anybody know how to fix this besides moving the taskbar before starting the game?

The realm is shared between all players, but they connect through their regional servers. You can chat and trade between people of any region.

Players from different regions can party together, but one person will have higher latency since their instance will be hosted on one regional server.

Anytime I change the resolution and then Fullscreen it throws out a D3D error. It's annoying as hell.

I'll look into turning off the global chat now, thanks.

Edit: Holy shit the skill tree is amazingly... in-depth and I have no clue what the hell I want to use. D: What is a good build for a shadow?

so I just started playing, not a big fan of how the menus are laid out(too used to diablo) but with time i'm sure i'll get used to it

but holy shit this game shits all over diablo 3 it's not even funny.

I'm having a blast. The skill tree alone OH MY GOD

It's not a "skill" tree. It's a passive tree. Gems are the skills.
Shadows are great for INT/DEX Builds and they start close to Claws orbs so you could do an Assassin like Diablo 2 with Traps, totems and teleportation stuff or you could do... well anything really. The thing with PoE is that Classes are only placement on the tree and change your stats at the beginning of the game. They also influence what Gems you get from Quests, but you can still use any Gem you like when you drop them.
You could do a Shadow Mage or a Shadow with Axes and shields. It really all depend what you like to do. But Shadow will have a hard time going after Axes since the axes orbs are at the opposite of the tree.

Let's hope YOU wont get blasted. Reflect is a bitch if you go on a Crit Build.

I saw on the planner that there's an ability to raise an NPC ally like the Necromancers? Or am I reading that skill/passive wrong?
