The pricing model on iRacing had put me off for years, until two weeks ago when I caved in and bought it.
The sim is immense. I thought I would seriously struggle with the forced cockpit mode view, but it's actually really nice. You can set the FOV to whatever you want, the only car that it annoys me in is the V8 Supercar.
Sure you have to pay for content on top of the subscription to pay, but to me, it's worth single penny. I recently bought the Skip Barber Formula 2000 car and 5 other tracks (when you buy 3 or 6 pieces of content together you get a 10% and 20% discount on each piece respectively) and I'm having a blast trying to tame the Skippy around Road Atlanta.
The private lounge fee isn't really a problem at all to be honest. The private hosting lounges are really there for private racing leagues, where usually most people will donate to the league to cover any hosting costs. iRacing host their own 2-hours practice sessions all day and you can test any of yours cars on any of your owned tracks by yourself.
If you have a wheel, pedals and a half-decent interest in sim racing there really is no excuse not to at least try iRacing. They actually have a one-time entry offer where you get 3 months for the price of 1, which is what I did to at least try it out.
The subscription isn't much of a deal to me tbh. Having played WoW for 3 years I probably wont spend even a quarter of that cost on iRacing.

Of course, iRacing pricing is not bad if it's the only thing you play or you're really into sims. But for people like me, who like sims, but also like playing many other games, there's no excuse in spending so much money. And 90 is not what you pay for two games (There're so many DD sales out there, you know).

I used the cable management spools underneath the wheel/shifter (image below). On my Playseat/G27 I used those and then simply wrapped the wires around the outer tubing between components and it worked fine. It might not be as pretty as running through the tubes, but I'm not too worried about stuff like that.Quote said:

A: It is more than comparable with those sims you've mentioned. I'll be covering this in more detail in an upcoming developer diary video on the physics of KartSim and its effect on the driving experience (i.e. trail breaking, etc).

A: Although we haven't confirmed the minimum PC specs as yet, anything with an 8800GT and a 3.0 GHz single core should be adequate.
Q: What engine are we getting in the demo with the Arrow chassis and which engines are we getting in full version same with chassis?
A: The demo will see you driving the Arrow XE-28 chassis with the 17hp Yamaha KT100S engine. The full version will see all the CIK classes (i.e. KF3-KZ1 as well nation-specific categories). You will have to wait for the full list of chassis/engines/circuits once the demo has been released.
Q: Will there be online racing against others?
A: Absolutely.

I'm completely new to PC sim racing but am heavily concidering getting into it. Where do i start? Do any of these games have a healthy online community where finding online games is easy? I'm currently not interested in iRacing due to the monthly fee since i don't even know if i'll enjoy it but it might be an alternative later. I currently only have a 360 controller but will get the dfgt to get me started.
So bottom line is i'd like a sim racer where i can easily find online matches pretty much whenever i feel like it, is that possible?
Oh, and what is up with Simbin's games, there are like 15 of them? Some are expansions to others etc. Which is the one to get?

My g27 finally arrived today! Skipping a long story of being shipped a box that looked like it got dropped from 30 feet and a longer wait...
The build quality is amazing. Taking the pedals out of the box I was surprised by how heavy they are. Once I powered up the mounted wheel just turning it felt amazing compared to the DFP. While playing the FF feels great and it returns to center nicely.
Does anyone have good settings for GTR2, with 900 degrees and 100% steering sensitivity it still seems to take a bit too much movement to get results.

I would suggest turning down the movement to somewhere in the 360-540 range.

Ian Bell has released a small development update regarding Slightly Mad Studio's ambitious C.A.R.S. project that is due to be launched soon.
The studio has completed all the legal work required for the project to kick off. Furthermore, the title's logo has been revealed and registered as trademark while the work on the website is still going on.
The backend system that allocates the shares based on the customer's financial commitment is up and running. SMS expects the website to be ready for service in about two weeks time.

Now I'm considering getting a nwe PC for F1 2011 that can sit in my home theater. Sort of ironic because it isn't quite sim.
Looking for a PC with a small form factor that will run the latest and greatest racing sims while outputting 5.1 sound to my speakers and 1080p to my screen.
About RBR I've seen it stretches on widescreen setups because it wasn't made for them...has the community fixed that with a mod?

I have a mATX PC myself that's housed inside an Antec Mini P180 case, it's quite a bit smaller than your average ATX case and I can easily carry it under my arm when going to LANS.
There was a widescreen mod for RBR but I couldn't get it working on Windows 7 x64.

If you're willing to DIY, this is a case that's gotten good buzz in the PC thread on gaf. I can believe it, too, because it's utilizing the same thermal flow as the custom case I built years ago. Should be quiet and cool.

Interestingly, the car sports a completely fictitious paint scheme without any Audi logos. This may very well be a sign that licensing is still being worked on.
