Persona 4 US Dec. 9, 2008

Every rpg is coming out before final fantasy 13, come on square, persona 4 was announced 4 years later after final fantasy 13 and yet will be released before your game.

Nice, I guess that means my birthday falls on a Tuesday this year (Dec 9).

Unfortunately, I haven't played a Persona game since the first. Maybe I should pick up P3.

Release date on site says september nine, I know it must be a mistake but I would love if it were not.

:lol They did that on Dokapon's site too when the site was launched. Hopefully Nich or someone will notice it soon.

Speaking of, I liked P3's way better than the Japanese one =/ FES's was all right in my book, too.

Not sure which alternate Earth you're living on (and how your internet is able to connect to ours), but here on Normal Earth, the U.S. P3 and P3 FES covers were nowhere close to being as good as the Japanese ones.

It's the day after the announcement and I'm still doing headspins and backflips while wearing my Persona 4 shirt ;)

It will probably be the exact same game with different characters. That being said, persona 3 is awesome.

I've played Fes for about five hours so far and I'm so bored I don't know if I'll ever finish it.

And a different plot. And improved gameplay. And improved graphics.

But oh, yeah, totally the exact same game. PERSONA 3.5, REALLY.

If he doesn't like 3 you think he will magically like 4? P3 is my favorite game of 2007, but I know what I am getting into. The graphics will be the same, the plot will have minor changes but this is a SMT game... They don't really vary the plot formula. And it will play similar but eliminate the one glaring flaw P3 head, which was annoying party AI not doing the logical thing by allowing you to assume control if you want to.

You took what I said as an attack on P4. It isn't. More of a great thing is a great thing in my opinion, but if someone doesn't like P3 they won't like P4.

I'm not really a huge Final Fantasy fan but come on, Persona 4 is going to be recycling an engine, many of the in-game assets from Persona 3 and FES and have largely the same gameplay with a few tweaks.

As for the news, I'm weirdly not excited about this, I'll buy it out of fear of the limited print run but I don't know when I'll get around to playing it.

If you didn't like the fundamental game structure of P3, then you almost certainly won't like P4. However, the tons of improvements over P3's many flaws at least leave some hope for others to like the game.

Personally, I think the multiple dungeons, improved pacing (not necessarily a month between major events), and firing of Lotus Juice are huge improvements. Not to mention what looks to be greatly improved animation and 'cinematography'.

I think it depends on what he didn't like about Persona 3.

Was it the pacing (which was, admittedly horrid)? That should be largely fixed.
Was it the single dungeon? Fixed.
Was it the AI teammates? Fixed.
Was it the characters? Obviously, fixed.
Was it the story? Well, this is a different plot, with a different theme. He may like this one.

Was it the S.Links, or the grinding, or etc? Then no, he probably won't like Persona 4, either.

so as a innocent P3 hater who doesn't know a lot about P4 when you guys talk about gameplay improvement to what are you referring?

The two biggest are multiple, plot related dungeons (although their layouts are still randomly generated), choice of AI or manual control for teammates.

So you're judging a 90+ hour game on the first five hours? Hmm.

And if you don't like P3, don't buy P4. Simple as that.

P3 started off really slow but i thought the game got better and better as it progressed, you guys should atleast give the game one complete run through, its gonna be worth it believe that.

looking forward to the US release of P4, although i would have wanted it to come sooner :( say around september ish, too much to ask i suppose. Never the less i absolutely adored P3 and if this builds on from that game's mechanics i already know im gonna enjoy this.

An extensive list of the changes to P4 over P3. It is still a year-long adventure with a scheduled storyline and S. Links.

-No more lunar system. Instead, the game revolves around weather, with foggy nights serving as the encroaching deadline instead of Full Moons. You can check the 7-day forecast on television. It also helps add graphical variety to the town of Inaba, as well as mixing up the daily scheduling.
-Controllable party members, though you can choose AI if you want.
-More Personas (more of a natural progression than 'improvement')
-Male Party members are their Arcanas respective S. Links.
-Leveling an S. Link of a party member improves their performance in battle, though I don't exactly know how.
-You can choose who to spend your lunch breaks with to advance that S. Link (probably just points rather than full level ups)
-S. Links are not necessarily linear; with women, they can branch either into a 'friend' or 'girl-friend' paths.
-No more Lotus Juice. The only vocalist is a female one, different than the one in P3.
-Generally improved animation/cinematography (check out assorted videos on the JP page, or this one in particular
http://p4.atlusnet.jp/keyword/keyword04-2.html
to show off the new Velvet Room interface. It looks like text still appears on the screen too slowly, though; hopefully that is a variable)
-Multiple dungeons open up as you advance the story, though I'm still not sure if there is also a game -long one in addition.
-Dungeons are still random, but the engine is less repetitive. Added are traps and locked chests.
-Sound quality generally sounds higher (reused S. Link theme
http://p4.atlusnet.jp/keyword/keyword04-3.html
seems like a much higher quality.
-The story is said to revolve around a series of murders in a country/suburban town.
-There is a 'Fusion Forecast' system where each day has a different fusion that will give you a bonus (i.e. a special item or stat boost if you create a specific persona, or use a specific persona). The forecast can be checked ahead of time just like the weather.
-Hard mode accessible from the beginning, AND the game is said to be generally harder.
-One of the party members is the empty shell of a children's show mascot that comes to life. That's... kind of fucked up, but I'm not sure if that is more or less so than the Persona series average.
-The main battle theme still feels a bit strange, but it is decidedly less obnoxious.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLK3ExblplQ

-Alternate S. Links for some Arcana, dependent on which Sports Club and Activity you join.

Some of the... annoying... aspects are returning, I think.

The fundamentals of the battle system are the same, and I'm assuming MC = Dead = Game Over.
'Support' characters return.

No more Lotus Juice? :(

I actually loved their songs.

But hearing the same songs over the course of 70 hours is aural punishment.
I'm about 28 hours in P3 and some of the songs are driving me insane.
Especially the dorm song.

Did I see a fishing minigame in there? :O

Yes, there is a fishing minigame.

Sometimes I feel like I am the only person who loathes fishing minigames.

They are the bane of my existence.

Great news! I'm still a ways off from completing FES but more Persona is always awesome in my book. I'd love to see those shirts that were given out at the event go up for sale on the Atlus website. I'd own one in a heartbeat.

I like the non linear paths. Because, I didn't WANT to be boyfriend with all these girls. I just wanted to hang with the student council girl or Mitsuru. Yukari and the manager girl can FUCK OFF.

So that means that five or six S. Links are the party members right? Weren't there talks about being multiple S. Link characters for the same arcana?

I agree with you :lol :lol :lol

Plus, I wasn't a very smooth operator and got girls mad at me a lot >.>

The only difference between me and you is you can do 90s and flares more likely than I can do a backflip and headspin :(

I can attempt a backflip and land on my head though ^_^

I'm really looking forward to Persona 4... $39.99, don't mind if I do.

I wonder how long it'll take before Atlus US can get a playable build up of the localization...

lol update that 1990 to a 2000 and throw in a few pikes and airchairs and you're my personal hero :D

WHAT!! Fuck you and your hatred for Yuka-chan! :D Btw, I have no idea if I used that suffix right.

Ah, yes. Depending on which sports team you join, there is a different Male S. Link. The team manager is the same chick regardless, though.

Also, the activity determines a character as well, all women, I think.

I also hear tales of finding part-time jobs, but I'm not sure if that is S. Link related or not.

Sports teams are Strength, and culture clubs are (I believe) Sun, but this time each team/club has different team members and will have a different storyline.

Ms."DON'TTOUCHMEYOULLNEVERUNDERSTANDWHATITSLIKETONOTHAVEPARENTSHOWDAREYOUGETSOCLOSETOME" Yukari-tan? yeah, take your inflated sense of victimization out the door, bitch.

I can tell you from the trailer: I will be friends with every girl in this game, to prepare for getting laid by the black-haired damsel.

Haha, as compared to "STUDYHARDINSIGNIFICANTJUNIORWAHWAHFAMILYEXPECTATIONSARETOUGHTOLIVEUPTOOIVENEVERHADABOWLOFRAMEN" Mitsuru-Senpai.

Also, can you no longer score with multiple chicks? You have to pick in P4?

Edit. I never read the guide, so I tried to get that bitch to walk home with me for 9/10ths of the game unsuccessfully.

Oh, I was reading through the P3 artbook last night after P4 was announced, and I noted the following in the section about Yukari.

"In the end, she turned out to be the most realistic of the female characters, so I suspect that players will relate to her the most."

Indeed, Shigenori, indeed.

You just don't get it.

Mitsuru is such a stuck-up bitchy twat, it's smokin' hot. She's gotta be clean, too.

I assume you can be a two-timing ass in P4. You just have the choice to not.

Ah gunrack. I don't even own 'ah' gun!

Sometimes, you just wanted these girls to go away. Last time, a girl was cold when she received a gift I gave her, and I had to ignore her for the rest of the game.
