It's all about the execution. Any game has plenty of tropes, but it's the execution that makes the difference for most of them.

That's an entirely different assertion than what you were saying, though
Admittedly GAF as a whole compared to the larger gaming population has very selective, niche tastes, overall I feel. I'd imagine Persona is still a relatively unknown entity when looking at it that way. In any case, I never gave the series much thought but after watching the trailer, reading up on the core premise of the franchise and seeing how great reception was to it, I think it'd be a shame for me to pass it up as I love me a good story and cast of characters in an RPG, especially one that deals with relationships. Love that sort of stuff.
I wasn't necessarily alluding to sales, I just mean for example if you asked a thousand random gamers (I hate using that word) here in the states at least, I wouldn't be surprised if 10% or less of them have played a Persona game or even heard of it really.
The bathing scenes were *awful* though.
Much more so when one of them was tied to an awful character as well, hahaha.
Ah well, hopefully Persona 5 avoid such pitfalls.

Well, regardless Persona 4 is a game dripping with tropes.
The main offender being those bath scenes *shudder*
Also, in 2 years, the Megami Tensei series in general will celebrate its 30th birthday.
Kind of amazing that a series with this many games going back so far has remained just a cult hit in the west all this time.
I still can't believe that the devs decided that P4 needed a second one of those scenes for Golden. For a franchise that's done so well at breaking molds, stereotypes, and expectations, the constant reuse of that one "joke" is a bit baffling.
I do hope P5 eases up on that kind of stuff, or at least is more clever about it.
If that's the case then I guess it's interesting. Maybe the costumes might evolve or can be changed. It's actually funny how DC has de-sexualized the comic version of Catwoman so it was a bit jarring to see this 90's catwoman again.Someone earlier pointed out that each of the character's shadoworld outfits shown so far represent a thief trope. The MC is the genteman thief, Ryu is the thuggish thief, morgana seems to be more of a cartoonish ninja, while Anne seems to be the stereotypical "cat thief"(and like it or not, that's a pretty common trope in western media as well).
If it's any consolation, the fox masked person in the trailer that was pretty well covered seemed to be a girl.
Fox is going to be the most awesome character, let's be serious
To be honest, most ppeople seem to agree with you. I don't think I've seen ANYONE who thinks the bath scene was good here. Maybe it went over well in Japan, but...
Persona 5 challenge run, Fox only, no items.
Fox is going to be super mysterious husbando that I choose to date because he's rad and super awesome and he's trying to be the moral center of this group.
"Stop robbing these stores of diamonds, protagonist! For some reason there's some psychopathic night world where we can fight monsters instead! And it's related to your guilt for committing these crimes and your fear of going to prison over it! Eh! EH!"

But he reluctantly helps and is super useful in heists. OP.

Fuck the Fox is so rad. I want tosleep with him right nowbefriend him and do our homework together.
Oh, I just realized it is Wednesday afternoon in Japan...shouldn't we be getting Famitsu interview details by now? Or did I miss it.
Fuck the Fox.
The magazines release on Thursdays, so there'll be scans and stuff up in 8 hours at the latest, when it hits midnight in Japan. There likely won't be any new P5 info (including PlayStation Dengeki), aside from maybe some new screenshots.

whaaaaaaaaaaat. Isn't Shibuya known for it's style?
15-20 years ago, this may have been the case, but not any more. Like most other famous Tokyo spots, rising property values have pushed independent business out and corporations have taken over, effectively making a lot of formerly interesting areas rather indistinguishable from one another. Presuming you are an American and not younger than 20 years old, think of it like Times Square in the 70's/80s/90s vs. Times Square post-Giuliani.
Corporations taken over seems to fit right in with the hunched-over salarymen in the trailer and the themes of life weighing people down. I think the style will probably be more focused on the characters (i.e. how they're breaking out and rebelling against the normalcy and bleakness of society) and not the locations in this game.

Since I've been replaying P3:FES, one thing I really really really hope is that Atlus makes the UI very fast and streamlined in Persona 5. None of the Persona -> scroll down to new Persona -> press X for details -> wait -> press X again to switch -> Are you sure you want to switch (YES / NO) -> YES -> wait again.
So tsundereBut he reluctantly helps and is super useful in heists. OP.
Aren't you the guy making the case for waifu talk? I'm not particularly fond of the bath scenes from any angle myself, but it's funny they seem to such an issue for you. A page ago I would've guessed that kind of thing was right up your alley.
....what is that supposed to mean?
Are you saying that I am the kind of lowest denominator pervert that would masturbate furiously to the kind of fanservice like that?
Alright then.

But that's a nice catch. On my 5th viewing of the trailer right now did I pay attention to the fox who I always thought was the cat for some reason lol...

.
It would be surprising if they didn't make changing outfits a thing after P3P, P3 FES, P4G all added it.
Actually, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that clothes will be Atlus's DLC that people are worried will mimic SMT IV. I suppose it's more like Persona 4 arena's glasses packs.
in the battle screen you see Persona separate from MC. So I don't think you turn into the Persona like the PV suggested.
Assuming you mean the Pyro Jack/Sandman, I think they're the enemies.
Well, hate it or like it, or despite that many seem to sneer on the concept of "waifus", I think it's pretty obvious that it is a rather large factor that contributes much to the popularity of modern Persona games.
Yeah, his entire design is fucking slick.Arsene looks awesome with those black wings.
