Persona 5 Famitsu Details

Soejima is getting better with his persona designs for sure. Arsene looks like a Kaneko demon drawn by Soejima. A huge improvement over the designs from 3 and 4

What's his persona based off of? Doesn't sound like an actually mythology more like a concept.

Any word on whether the MC is voiced or not? Now that I know S.Links are more or less in, it's the only thing I want to know before I can go dark on P5 news.

We don't know. Anything regarding that is still in the realm of speculation, though he will, of course, have a voice like any other Persona protagonist to at least grunt and stuff.

We probably won't be hearing about Persona 5 for a long while after this.

Ah, thanks. It was just in case the little blurb undernearth "Yourself" said anything about it since I can't read Japanese. I fully expect him to have Persona calls and grunts, though. He can't be totally mute. :P

I'm pretty glad we won't be hearing much after this, honestly. I already feel like I know a little bit too much about the start of the game. I just really, really, really want to play it already.

I really like Arsene's design but man is there too many things added on him, it kinda makes it overbearing.

Like we're the wings really necessary and why does the hat have to be that long.

Anyways just my nitpick.

MC is almost guaranteed to have a battle voice but unvoiced otherwise.

Also, I may have to blanket ban waifu talk when the JP OT comes out.

Now, I really, really want another installment of Persona: Arena at some point with the P5 characters in. Would love to fight as the new protagonist and Arsene. I would main the shit out of them.

I'm honestly surprised you haven't lopped it all under shitposting or off-topic posting already.

And I dunno. Given the way Catherine was and how they went out of the way to give him a more explicit characterization, I think we're going to get something that's a compromise. More than just the unvoiced protagonists with dialogue choices we've had previously, but maybe not quite to the level of Mass Effect.

I do want another Arena game, but I want them to try something Guilty Gear Xrd style, graphically. It just seems like it'd be a perfect fit given the graphical style of Persona 5.

I was super stoked for Xrd right up until I played the demo. Demo felt unresponsive, like there was a nearly imperceptible delay between when I pushed the button and the character threw out the move. The thing I loved most about Arena was how fast, furious and fluid it was (even if it was, in many ways, technically shallower than, say BlazBlue.)

I would not want to lose that fluidity in favor of an improved graphical style.

Hearing that remix of the velvet room theme on the character select screen always pumps me up though. As long as they keep that, they've probably got me no matter what.

But the difference between Catherine and Persona 5 is that the former is shorter in game lenght. So I don't know if they could have the MC talk that much for a game that may be 60+ hours to finish, unless they incorporate it in some way.

Plus they would abandon the silent MC gimmick they've been doing. Anyways time will tell I guess.

I hope persona and ffxv don't release close to each other. Wanna play them both at launch, will be hard if they do release within same period sins they are so loooong.

I'm waiting for the Persona 5 Dancing All Night announcement.

Wouldn't it be cool if Dancing All Night type stuff was just a minigame in P5 used to boost charm? Better results improve your charm a lot. If you fail utterly, you get a consolation boost to courage due to learning to deal with public humiliation. ;-)

So in the scan you can see the MC in front of Arsene right? So does that mean he does not turn into him? Or at least not in battle? If so, I wonder what the summoning gimmick is. You know, like Persona 3 with the evokers and Persona 4 with them breaking the cards.

Move aside Izanagi. Arsene is the coolest Persona now. The idea of a top hat on a Persona sounds silly, but damn it looks so cool on him. His face also looks more evil than Thanatos', which represents the MC's personality pretty well.

That HD picture on Gematsu hot damn.

I can't handle all this news and HD scans. The game looks solid and I'm hoping for PV #2 in April.

Yeah, the wackiness has always been there but up until P3 they were all still human looking but with some out there design elements for the most part. They looked like people with crazy costumes. Then in P3 they ratcheted it up to 11 and never looked back, most just look like weird toys, or dolls really, instead of people. I mean Yukari's ultimate persona is Isis and instead of using the pretty great looking design they had they create this weird disembodied abomination.

Before Persona 3, Persona used mostly original designs for its Persona/demons though. There were some shared designs, like Jack Frost and Beelzebub, but most of them didn't match. For example, Isis actually looked like this in Persona 2:

90% of the generic Persona only started sharing their designs with SMT's standard demons in Persona 3 itself. So, I think they always wanted a different visual style, and reusing SMT's designs is mostly a practical matter, since it allows asset sharing.

Some sort of chain breaking motif no doubt. Probably not a physical one, but like black and red chains appear in front of the character, they do a pose indicative of their character traits, the chains break and their persona appears to do whatever you commanded it to do.

I wish I could get hype for this but Persona 3 was my only experience and I think I shall leave it at that. Plus I am really not liking the art and graphics.

That would be so f-ing cool. I can imagine it in my head. I thought the chains on Arsene were part of his design but it kind of looks like the main character is holding them in the screenshot.
