all aboard the very-japanese-bullet-hype-train!
There's about to be a third faction to this after today's trailer
main character is japanese and gets a french persona so it's not like there's a country link. Why Robin Hood when she's clearly French? Way more likely to be a musketeer.

Yeah I getcha, if you're prioritizing for user experience a la most applications this treatment wouldn't really fly at all. You're right. I was just putting that out there as a possible criticism. I know at least one pro graphic designer on GAF who isn't too keen on it, either.
Still, I think the design's doing exactly what it set out to do. It's a mess, but a deliberate one. We don't need persistent reminders of the controls when on the field, though. They can apparently auto-hide, but I don't know what triggers it.
I just don't find the game appealing to me.
I'm a huge Persona fan, and this just doesn't look like Persona to me.
Is this how old Final Fantasy fans felt when FFVII came out? It just looks like a completely different franchise to me, to the point where I'm barely interested in getting it. SMT 4 Final is more my speed.

^That is Alice and she is usually OP in every single Megaten game she has been in.
This just shows me they were really true to what they said about how P5 would feel like another shift like P1/2 to P3/4. As a long time Persona fan, I felt really alienated when Persona 3 came out, though after I ended up loving P4 I gave P3 another shot and ended up liking it.
I feel like sure, P3 was different, but it still felt like Persona to me. This looks like they've gone full on anime. When I think of Persona, I think of like, pulp horror mixed with jrpg. I'm not getting this vibe at all from these trailers and it's actively turning me off of the game. Maybe the actual game is good. I'm willing to give it a chance.

In P3 we got a child, a robot, and an actual fucking dog in the party.
Persona is just now going "full anime"?
Do she have a name already?Hnnnng, why does megane girls always have to be the cutest.
Yeah! Good taste

As a guy who still likes P1 and P2 I think looking at the Persona franchise now as more of an anthology series, sharing some narrative and thematic elements, but with each game taking on a different tone or expression that gives it a unique identity among the others lets you enjoy each game without being too shackled by expectation.I feel like sure, P3 was different, but it still felt like Persona to me. Reposted for some love!
Speak for yourself ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)That's an unfortunate name.
My thoughts exactly. I don't trust the guy in the suit.I wouldn't be surprised if the new guy on the boxart betrays the party
There's not Velvet Room girls so I guess I'm not apart of this Civil War.
: )

Messed up. Futaba*Well P4 had nothing like that in it either. This looks less anime than P4 to me.
That's an unfortunate name.
What did you think of p4 out of curiosity? That felt more light hearted and anime than p5 so far imo.
I'm not saying Persona hasn't had anime influences before. On the contrary. It has had them since its birth as a more mainstream targeted MegaTen.
But it also had MegaTen elements in it, from horror stories to murder mysteries. In P3, you shoot yourself in the head with an Evoker to summon a Persona. There's a morbidness to Persona despite the glitz, despite the flash, that lays under its MegaTen influenced trappings. Persona has ultimately, always had a huge horror influence, even 3 and 4.
And I'm just not getting that here.
If the "murder mystery" in Persona 4 is all the morbidness you required to feel at home, then going by the dialog in this trailer, you don't have anything to worry about.
Also, Velvet Prison.
If 4's "murder mystery" is morbid enough, the prison certainly is.
I can't wait until a P5A becomes a Persona Waifu Arena.
Yeah I getcha, if you're prioritizing for user experience a la most applications this treatment wouldn't really fly at all.
The other cool thing (which was noted in the previous trailers) is the absolutely great animation detail being packed into the UI. Compare this game to most other RPGs where you spend a large amount of time staring at static rectangular UI and you'll come to appreciate the work that went into the animations for the UI alone which adds a level of energy on top of the game itself.
I mean, I loved it. But P4 also is about solving murders, which is as Persona as you can get.

What's up with people constantly phasing in and out at school and in the city?
Tell me more about the Velvet Prison? I watched this with sound off.
The new Chie is badass.

sounds arbitrary to me
A return to demons should be telling that this is true MegaTen
and guns, for that matter

Persona 4 is the game that went full anime. It's also the best one. Coincidence?
Yes.

And I'm just not getting that here. It barely looks recognizable from its MegaTen influences at this point.
It seems very "Persona" to me. There's an alternate reality, themes of identity and duality all over the place, it's centered around a cast of high school characters in a modern urban environment with rumors/urban legends spreading about (the thieves who steal peoples' hearts), and with demons aplenty.
