Well I know for a fact they don't take offense. It was never uncomfortable laughter and it was just a passing moment in conversation full of all kinds of joking around. If my friends didn't like it they'd say something. They are not shy. I would never say that to you or anybody that was uncomfortable with it. I can only speak to my personal experience.

Good for you I guess. And it can be assumed from that story that all 57 million of his followers also took no offense at the n-word?

Actually why am I wasting my time? You have already made your stance.

I challenge anyone to write an apology that would please everyone on GAF.

People will accept what they want, but in today's climate apologies are worthless especially ones that involve "If i offended anyone".

I will be impressed if they put in the work. Donate to a cause or link to them asking others to do it.
He apoligized but some people(rightfully so) arent going to give him the benefit of the doubt and will wait to see he acts for the next year or so.
Seeing how this is like the 4th time he been seen doing this, they wouldn't have to wait that long

I don't understand how people discern the apology as "sincere". It could very well be written by a pr firm that specialises in damage control.

"Fucking nigger" is, no matter the circumstances, just as racist as something like "off to the showers with you dirty jew".
Thats not something you say on accident. If you say it it undoubtedly reflects your racist believes.

If you think its not a big deals that means your are either extremely stupid or plain and simple a racist.

I'm starting to get the sense that the reason you're participating in this thread is because you're looking to be excused for using the n-word. You realize that all of these people who are angry about PDP's use of the word might feel the same about your use of the word. You're not going to find absolution here. People are not going to give it to you, for good reason.

I would strongly suggest that, instead of arguing for your moral correctness, you take some time to think about your personal justifications.

lol, I never liked Pewdiepie. His catch phrase is a poor rip off of Mr. Hanky from South Park and I never found him remotely funny or entertaining. I always wondered how he got so damn huge. It doesn't make sense really, but in a world ruled by Kardashians anything is possible I guess.
So what you're saying is you saw a guy getting lambasted for being racist and you just had to jump to his defence? K

Your explaining to me why I shouldn't be able to say the apology was decent. I hate this stuff. I am on your side and I agree with you. This doesn't excuse his behavior and I NEVER SAID IT DID.

I'm on your side too bro, I didn't mean any harm by my comment. I am just saying I don't believe him for one second.

You also said you thought he was gonna give some explanation for his actions.

I blurted it out ( forgot I was streaming ) is probably the truth, but why would that word be the first that comes to mind? He is still a racist.

Maybe he will try to better himself, I surely hope so. Anyway didnt mean to act like a dick sorry.

And Pewdiepie reaches millions, so it is wider then his personal space. And even then 'n****' and 'nigga' are not the same, and it really differs per person if someone might not take offense or not. So tip: just don't say it.

I don't like him, just got to spent my day defending him. Got it. You can't fault people for not really taking your word based on your posts in this thread.

I feel like it undercuts the apology when it's edited like a YouTube video of a product unboxing or whatever. There's an edit after basically every sentence and it makes it look like it took him like 30 takes to get through it.
He needed to cut the n-words out that slipped in, because he needed to make this video in the heat of the moment.

His recent video about the hurricanes, earthquakes and firess currently was basically full of the usual right wing climate change denier talking points.
The video was like watching a segment on Fox News.

The dude is a full on right winger. Complete with the racism, anti-science stances, anti-sjw and anti-feminism.

He knows that this part of his message attracts a large part of his young, white, male audience.
And he knows what not to say to keep them around.

He is basically the mainstreamification of the politics of gamergate.

PewDiePie makes videos denying climate change too? What credentials does he possess to make an informed decision on climate change especially when his backwards ass opinion influences the kids who watch his stream. Climate science denial was spawned by industry to create a public backlash with misinformation so they can role back laws and regulations protecting the environment because those laws and regulations interfere with profit. Its rather simple, sadly some people think its a liberal scientific conspiracy that was made up because the left is snowflakes or some other juvenile stupid shit.

I hope some parents prevent their kids from watching this clown after all of this.

That apology was almost okay-ish if he could've just said "I obviously offended a lot of people" as opposed to "I'm sorry if I offended, hurt or disappointed anyone".

Fucking, "if".

Now, how about you actually call out all the racists supporting your 'incident' as being racist morons. That would be one of the most important steps to take if you were actually disgusted if your own behavior.

Starting? From post 1 it was obvious it's just a burner account racism apologist.

I challenge anyone to write an apology that would please everyone on GAF.

"It was an atrocious thing to say and I should have never said it. I'm taking some time off to reflect on why I said it and I hope to end up a better person as a result. Anyone who says this word is scum and is actively making the world a worse place. It's not just a word. It represents centuries of hatred, pain, and oppression, and we can't ignore that."

That'd be nice for a start. Big fucking improvement over "I'm sorry if I offended anyone."

Decent apology I guess, but I was done with him after last time. It's just a matter of time once again, and the fans put a bad taste in my mouth once again.

"I sincerely apologize for my use of the word. It is not okay in any context and nothing I say can excuse myself.

I ask everyone out there to consider the vile history behind such words. Just because you hear these words online does not mean it's ever okay to use them.

Never use hateful or biggoted language, and call out anyone who does. Indifference will not stop racism, only action will."

I dunno...something like that. Again, he's in a position of influence. Anything less than a call to action is a failure.

What are you talking about?
I'm French as well and there's a big difference between "Noir" for "Black" and "Nègre" = "Nigger", or "Beur" for "Arabic" and "Bounul" = "sand-nigger / dirty arab?", etc.
You can't call someone a "nègre" or a "bounul" in France and not expect at least the same amount of outrage from people.

Btw the correct spelling is bougnoul.
It's pretty fucking offensive, you WILL get clocked if you try to pull that shit anywhere.
Best case scenario people will think you're one of the uber racist who would be pretty happy to sell your country to Nazi germany.
Like seriously no one will say good things about you if you use that word.

I wasn't looking for an apology, because I don't need one. The guy is racist. Looking for an apology from his kind would be as fruitful as looking for an apology from Chris Cantwell as far as I'm concerned.

The reality is this guy has had so many chances. Personally I don't understand why people follow him. My expectations were extremely low based on his past behavior. I honestly expected him to double down on the racism.

I'm not accepting anything. Some of your posters taking personal shots need to chill.

Hope this makes you feel validated bruh.

People on here taking personal shots on a strawman.

You said his apology was decent not me. I didn't say you forgave him, I am saying if you think that is a decent apology then you are mad. Dude used all the shit people use when they don't give a fuck. You can accept a apology but not forgive someone at the same time. I'm not personally attacking you, I am saying if you call that decent then it isn't good.

That would be a great start. Then a follow-up video where he walks his audience through the history of the word, with some guests to help him. He has plenty of money, can bring on some guest historians, social activists, etc.

You say its ok to joke with your friends and say the n word all the time.

Is it still ok if you are streaming live and have 50+ mil subs with a large portion of it children?

Well, I find it's two different things. I say "nigga" very occasionally and the context is a joking non malicious manner where there's mutual respect and it's just friends joking around. He said nigger with a hard R in a derogatory manner and that's not cool at all, but he did say "I didn't mean it" right after and now he published an apology taking responsibility that those same children will see. Shitty thing to say, but he seems to be owning it. To be clear, I don't like Pewdiepie, I just find the reaction a bit crazy. Direct it at those Charlottesville white supremacists instead maybe.

Usually you learn your lesson after the first mistake , he has been a repeat offender. Only reason he is apologizing is because he was caught accidently . No apology especially this backhanded "i hear it online all the time " one won't be accepted. He probably should take time off from gaming and seek help if he was serious

One thing I'm worried about out of this to kind of get a new percspective is other YouTube gamers. Now pew has always been an anoying fuck and this just shows that now he is a anoying racist fuck which is bad. But for some unknown reason he has became the number one lets player.

I enjoy let's plays and exspecialky cow chop and haxernova which are really just guys getting high playing games. But right now they are going threw a addpocolypse and having a hard time getting money it seems. Ads don't want to be on racist shit, which makes complete sense. But the google system views all gaming as bad content and demonetizes it. Well now with the biggest let's player dropping racist bombs this is going to fuck over the whole let's play community. Now all advertisers are going to think that let's players are mostly racist and want there content know where near there videos.

So thanks a lot you racist fuck you are ruining my entertainment while I eat :(

Not a problem.

I'd have added a time out for myself as well. "I made some large mistakes here, and also in the past. I have come to realize this is not OK and that I need to change. I will be taking a step back from making my videos for a while to learn from this and come back a better person, who hopefully deserves the forgiveness from the people I offended or hurt by my actions."

Except that, he did not really. He also said nobody watching his stream cares. And his apology is lazy to say the least.

And you might want to stop saying nigga in a joking context if you are white. Do not use racial slurs in our day to day life. That is it. But apparently that is too hard.

Have you seen the responses to his tweet?

https://twitter.com/pewdiepie/status/907595561565655040

Most people don't care. Apology accepted, and will forget about it next week.

It's because they have too much power and they know it. That white is the default colour in the current culture climate and the benefitor of this have influences that are far reaching.

Dominant group of people in a dominant culture.

Alt-right personalities will not fear repercussions because all these clueless non-whites ( but also non-black ) do not take racism against black people seriously, that they are inevitably supporting white supremacy to their detriment.

Some even just like to punch down and be seen as 2ND class in the hierarchy instead of wanting true equality.

That one Ryan Davis one was a pretty good one. And I think Griffin McElroy had a similar apology. Taking the blame, and vowing to do better.

It is hard to believe that in 2017 we are still having the talk about why it isn't cool for white people to say it and the difference between how black people have taken the word and created a version that is only for them to use amongst themselves.

Oh, wait, it is completely believable because the last generation stood up from their rascal scooters and elected a problematic fuck to be the leader of the free world. So now all the idiots feel emboldened.

What is crazy to me is that dudes like Faze Banks, doing a pretty mediocre Malibus Most Wanted impression btw, and Boogie "Don't call me fat but you can say the N word" 2988 coming to the aid of someone that is ACTIVELY AND CONSISTENTLY fucking their money up.

He's always been problematic. But with his rapid success and climb to the top, he's become "the face" of YouTube and content creators. So now he is the standard and example for the rest of you all to be judged.

How many times is Felix going to draw major news attention to himself for being a complete dipshit? Again, he is the biggest YouTuber in the world, someone that once grabbed headlines as a pioneer for the medium and showing that YouTube was a viable platform to make a living is now only on major news outlets because of all the stupid shit he's doing. An almost 30 year old man that chalks his idiocy up to oppsies and slips of the tongue.

Ya'll think it's because the "SJW" boogeymen are out here pulling strings? You think it's people getting to offended at things too easily? Nah buds, it's people finally taking notice and holding these dweebs you support to SOCIETAL standards. And these people are the with the actual juice to do shit. Advertisers.

Advertisers see these stories and are wanting fuckall to do with YouTube, especially gaming content. He is the person doing the most damage to ya'll fucking bank accounts. He is fucking your money up. Stop standing behind him a line propping him up. Let him fall on his own.

If you care about nothing else, care about your fucking livelihood.

Hello !
I'm French and i don't understand why people are so angry about this word, because in French we have a n-word for black people, a b-word for white people and a b-word for arabic people and sometimes people use it but there's no problem with this ?

As someone who can speak Arabic,

What the fuck are you on about?

I just stabbed someone in the throat but it's okay because I said "I didn't mean it" right after.

He's done this multiple times. He's a fucking racist.

took him 2 days to drop 90 seconds, that should tell you everything

Seriously, it does not take you two to days to say "what I said was wrong. It's a hurtful word with a even worse history behind it and I apologize for saying it. And to the people out there defending me on saying the word, including my fans, you shouldn't be. That word is horrible and should not be said at all."

That would have been a hell of a better than "I'm sorry if I offended anyone."

Cmerrill

You don't need to be empathetic towards me.
That's a good apology. Seems sincere and accepts responsibility, without excuses.

I'm satisfied with it.
