Every Japanese Triple-A developer to Xbox:

Not enough loot boxes.

Actually Online is being set up as a mobile/PC online title that will almost certainly "embrace" that side of things. Then again, Yakuza 6 also did that rather low key with the clan creator side of things. Still, from what little has been shown of RGG Online it looks like a fairly straight forward mobile/browser game. I'd probably play it for the story and the art (artwise it looks really nice so far) but I'm not holding out hope that the game itself will be up to par with the rest of the series.

WOW, Sony defence force is in full swing in this thread. Please post funny gifs so I can laugh. I don't care about either of your toys, switch and PC owner, but I love to see the gifs you guys come up with.

FYI, your post history is public. Just saying...

Console Warz SMH.

I think this is more about bringing Japanese titles and developers over to the platform for Western audiences, not the local console market. I think Microsoft knows that Xbox is, unfortunately for them, irrelevant in Japanese mindshare, and I think they know it's near impossible to reverse that with the Xbox One in particular.

GAF should know this the best, but the western weeb market should not be underestimated. Dark Souls is sensational in the west, Dragon Ball Fighter Z is largely hyped up as the next great fighting game, and Nintendo is king. A lot of people point to Scalebound as an example of failures on Microsoft's end to work with Japanese developers, but I believe that a lot of that comes more from a wanting to get upset at MS because they're MS. We don't actually know the details of the development of that game. Plus, how many western games have they cancelled? It seems like an irrelevant point to make.

Anyway, the only true way MS can succeed in Japan is to partner with Sega and release a box under the name "Dreamcast 2".

labels from last year don't matter. It can still come to Xbox and I'm confident it will.

It will probably be more successful on the One than that whatever Warrior game.
If they had any intention on releasing on the Xbox then they would've announced it along with the pc version I feel

Philly, did you just go to Japan without taking your best friend that is I?

I am heart broken. Be sure to expect my response to this on Twitter, Phil. I'm sure you'll at least have enough dignity to respond.

(Please don't ignore me, Phil)

(Phil, please)

So, obviously there's no way of telling whether any of these were or were not planning on coming to Xbox before Phil's last trip in February of this year, but since then the following Japanese games have been announced:

Bandai:
Ace Combat 7
Code Vein
Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet
Dragon Ball Fighter Z
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Collection (released)
Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker

Koei:
Dynasty Warriors 9
Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 (released)
Attack on Titan 2

5pb
Occultic;Nine
Steins;Gate 0 - 5pb (released)

Capcom:
Monster Hunter: World
Okami HD
Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen (released)

M2:
Battle Garegga Rev.2016 (released)
Dangun Feveron
Sorcer Striker
Ketsui

Hamster:
ACE NEOGEO Series (released, more coming)

Not sure what to make of it, as again, we don't know if any of these planned on coming without any MS schmoozing. Just posting for a reference

Exactly. They had Kamiya's dream project as an exclusive and they totally blew it.

Phil can say he's moving to Japan and still nothing would happen.

Yes, Kamiya and Platinum Games had no hand in the failure of their game; they were totally knocking it out the park, blowing people away with Scalebound. The game left people literally speechless moments after each showing.

they dont care about phil spencer's position regarding their position with xbox

This is all the stuff that would've been released/announced anyway

That's what I was thinking too, with the *maybe* exception of Monster Hunter and Code Vein.

Phil should open a studio in Japan that makes games for Xbox.

I partially agree. He should make a new studio in their Japan office, but they should be focused on porting over Japanese games on PS4 to XB1. Theres enough devs making new games, they just don't come to xbox. If MS footed the staff (money) to port the game I think companies would be fine with that.

Code Vein is borderline since it's anime-style, but it's still the new soulslike from Bandai Namco, i don't know.
Monster Hunter looks to be like an ambitious project that aims at a worldwide success.

Meanwhile all the resources went into making Nier Automata a fantastic game and Scalebound always looked like a second thought.

They should have asked for a Nier port instead.

Persona 5
Nier Automata
Nioh
Entire Yakuza series
Steins Gate
The Silver Case
Dangonranpa
Nonary games
Guilty Gear
Tales of Besaria

Let's do it Phil!

In all seriousness, with the likelihood of them going over to Xbox being so minimal, I think it might be time to buy the other console and play the games. Also, some of those games, like Silver Case, Nioh and Nier Automata are already on PC. Hell, even Persona 5 is on the PS3, if you can get one for cheap.

You do know steins gate actually started on xbox right

Phil "You know we would love your games on Xbox but one thing would make them better, it's a box with loot in it....so what do you think?"

......."Is Loot the character?"

Phil "In a way, players are really receptive to Loot"

That's kinda the point, the titles don't need to be exclusives (and many aren't)

the" battle for xbox relevance for mid tier developers not specifically looking at global success from a multi-platform lens" is a more corrrect title. These are the ones who might consider PC at some point if they want to get some extra sales but otherwise dont care about adhering to a mutli platform strategy

Why is Microsoft still trying to make Japan Happen? Its not going to happen

In terms of Xbox sales in Japan, it will never happen. Still, Microsoft can not ignore the Japanese market if they want to bolster their lineup to compete with Sony or Nintendo.

Like someone in this thread suggested they could open up a studio in Japan for exclusives. As a console manufacturer they cannot afford to ignore the Japanese market for the Xbox fans in the west.

I agree, though it seems to have worked so far. I don't think it's a priority.

Yeah, I'm also encouraged by the recent restructure at MS.

Now, owing to the efforts of Spencer and his team, gaming has been elevated to the senior leadership table at Microsoft, sitting alongside Azure, Office, and Windows, rather than beneath them. Xbox head Phil Spencer will answer directly to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, cutting out Windows chief Terry Myerson as the middleman. And that's quite important.

What's this obsession with every single thing Phil does or says?

It's all his fault. He gives an interview, and they break it up into 8 pieces over 2 weeks, and then hundreds of outlets repeat it and even more people post about it.

Wait, that's not his fault then.

Are there even any developer that actually pursuit that? And I would say if they care to put their games on PC, or even develop first on PC is a sign that they want better global numbers.

They just don't see xbox as a viable option to do that, but that can change.
