That mustache definitely gave him a distinct memorable look that he would not have had otherwise. He looks far more imposing/serious without it, which I'm sure is why he kept it (to make him more likable to young people and women, I'm being serious, that was the motivation for a lot of his image decisions). Lincoln didn't grow a beard until he was running for national office because his advisers told him people thought he looks too skinny/unhealthy.

The picture says "flexible silicone base". So you pull the "tray" out of the tube & wiggle it around a bit to get the ice to drop out.
