Mhh, actually I don't think there is any counter-weight. That's why he's floating exactly above him, the trick would not work (w/o additional counter weight - which would take space and probably make him move strangely before the trick starts) if he were like floating slightly more to the left.

Material should be some rigid metal frame, I wonder though if they demonstrate beforehand that the "rope" would be flexible... (then the construction would need movable parts to snap into place to be rigid?)
