Pinball Hall of Fame - The Williams Collection for PS3 and Xbox360

Yup, in the current Williams one. I haven't gone through most of the individual tables since getting this on PS3, mainly concentrating on the Williams Challenge.

Having said that, most of the tables that are in the current collection are currently in possession of my best friend, who has maybe 20+ machines... including a mint-condition Black Knight that he scored when he traded a shitty upright Street Fighter 2 (yes, the original!) for because the table had a faulty PSU (that was easily repaired). Bastard :lol

Some of the stories he has behind some of his machines are incredible. Including an Australian designed/built Empire Strikes Back machine that has one of the jets replaced by one from the same-manufacturer's Howzat! (cricket themed!) table.

Which table?
Whirlwind. I've been playing it all day. You can only see your real score when you lose a ball and it's adding up your end of ball bonus; during regular gameplay it doesn't display enough digits. The last time I saw my full score before it went negative, it was between 2.0 and 2.1 billion. The next time I drained, it was displaying a negative number. I went ahead and let the rest of my balls drain at that point and snapped a few photos. It didn't ask for my initials or save anything to the leaderboards afterwards.

Adding up the bonus after my first intentional drain. Notice that I'm still on Ball 1. It also says "Credits 3" at the bottom; that actually represents 13 credits earned during this game (1 replay and 12 specials).

Closeup of the end of ball bonus display a couple of drains later:

Same end of ball sequence, displaying the 591 Cellar shots I made over the course of the game.

I guess you could say I "beat" the game... :lol

Edit: Replaced pics with scaled down versions

Edit2: 2,147,483,647 is 2^30. That's probably where my score looped around.

Holy shit :lol Pretty much "owning" a table in all but the most literal definition of the word.

I must footnote my posts in this thread by mentioning that I'm not actually that good at pinball games, I just love playing them. So don't expect me to post any top 10 scores anytime soon ;)

PS. For something great to read about some Williams/Bally tables, check out Cows & Easter Eggs.

Total game time was roughly 6 hours. What's cool is that I got progressively better at the game the longer I played it. I got the last 800 million or so pretty quickly off a series of really good multiballs. So if I wanted to have another go at it and stop before it rolls over, I think I could do it a lot more quickly this time.

On XBLA, the top scores for Medieval Madness and Gofers are also 2.14 billion. I think that may be the upper score limit on all the tables. Now I'm wondering whether the physical tables had that same limit, or if it's a flaw in the videogame version.

Is the high score system better on the 360? I'll get that version as well if it does comes out in PAL-land. And maybe with that release they'll patch the high scores?

PS. Are those scores right? Twin Galaxies has the real-world high for MM at 188 million. That's tournament rules though, so I don't know if that makes any difference... pretty sure that only means no extra balls.
That Whirlwind game I played today was on the 360 version. I'm pretty sure the 2.14 billion point cap is present in both the PS3 and 360 versions. The only difference between the 360 and PS3 leaderboards is that new scores show up instantly on the 360 version, while they take an hour or so to show up on the leaderboards on PS3.

Trying to keep world records for physical pinball tables isn't very practical. Components wear out, the table surface gets worn down over time along common ball paths, and not every table is going to be on a perfectly flat surface. The most fair way to look at competitive pinball scores is only to compare scores from the same event and location. But even then, flippers can wear out over the course of a weekend resulting in less power per flip later in the tournament. So Twin Galaxies does keep track of scores from sanctioned events, but it's pretty hard to compare them.

As far as tournament settings go, no extra balls is pretty standard. Some machines can be set to tournament mode which raises the overall difficulty and reduces the amount of randomness in the game. I've read that at tournaments they will sometimes increase the table's incline to further increase difficulty.

One thing I like about playing The Williams Collection is that everyone's on a mostly even playing field. The score cap's a bummer though. Same goes for lack of tournament settings and the option to disable tilt.

Right now I'd say it's a tossup between Whirlwind and Space Shuttle for brokenest game in the collection due to how freely they give out extra balls. In Whirlwind, once you know how to do it you can pretty easily earn 2 extra balls per drain, forever. Which means even if you screw up on one ball and drain before you've earned any, you can just earn 2 on the next ball and you're golden. In Space Shuttle you can max out your extra ball count at 5 (!) on any ball, anytime. Getting to those extra balls in Space Shuttle is a bit more difficult though, at least it was last time I played, so there's a much higher chance of draining several times in a row without replacing those balls. Newer tables like Medieval Madness place an upper limit on the number of extra balls you can earn over the course of a game (I believe it's 15 in Medieval Madness), but the older tables don't have these limits, allowing you to play forever.

I can see why tournament settings remove extra ball awards entirely. Request to video pinball developers: Please include a tournament settings option in your games and keep separate leaderboards for them!

Hail to the KING baby
A game the quality of Williams, with a GeoWars-like leaderboard system (including the tournament settings referenced above), on XBLA, would do fucking gangbusters imo. Like if done right I could see it being the best-selling XBLA game evar. Would work even better with licensed tables, but IP licensing forever fucks over everything (and I'm an IP lawyer).

Wait -- do the 360 and PS3 versions have tables not present in the Wii version?

Bah.
Medieval Madness, No Good Gofers, and Tales of the Arabian Nights. All dot matrix display games.

I'd say they must be taking stupid pills at Farsight for not doing this, but then I remember they made the best, most realistic pinball simulation ever. Does anyone know what they're up to these days besides the upcoming Euro release?

And it really is a shame about licensed tables. Star Trek: TNG was the machine that started my love of pinball. I had never even watched Star Trek at the time; it was just a rad game.

I should really start recording when I play this. Both for making instructional videos and for Twin Galaxies submissions. Can anyone recommend a capture device? Something that can handle 6+ hours of continuous recording at 60 FPS? (I'll have to double check but I believe 60 FPS is a Twin Galaxies requirement) I don't normally keep a PC next to the Xbox and TV (other than my fairly decent laptop), so an external capture device might be better.

Wait, a billion points in Road Show is nothing to brag about. Hell, the replay value is sometimes higher than that. I think I actually got 2 trillion points on it on my best game. It's hard to remember for sure though, that was like 10 years ago.

Surprised to hear all the Zen hate in here, I love pinball and have been playing the hell out of it the last several months. The initial tables are pretty bad but several of the newer DLC tables are quite enjoyable.

At any rate, since I will never afford a real Medieval Madness table I ordered this Williams Collection on the wings of lots of internet praise. Really looking forward to it!

I think it's less hate than a genuine change of opinion of how authentically it presents pinball gameplay and feel after experiencing The Williams Collection. I really liked Zen and FX until this came along. Then, it became clear which really nails the feeling and physics of real pinball.

That's the maximum value of a 32-bit integer. Not sure if the real tables track scores with an int32 or if it's just the videogame version, but it's a pretty common number limit in computing.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
So I was FINALLY able to track down a PS3 copy of this. Fourth system I've owned it for, and it gets better every time. :D

Kinda pissed me off though. I was like 20,000 points away from getting all the Table Goals for Gorgar in my first run. :lol

Is this coming to PAL regions or not?

i've seen the renamed version (williams pinball classics) listed on uk stores but none have stock, i'm not even sure if has been released... or if it every will be released!?

no info on xbox.com or anything

Finished getting all the trophies in this. And I only got it two days ago. :lol

I think the gold and silver trophies should be switched, though. Unlocking free play for all the tables isn't hard at all. Beating the Williams Challenge, in my opinion at least, is far more deserving of the gold trophy.

EDIT: Updating the high score table with my scores:

Gratz on the trophies Seraphis! It's nice to see the scoreboard still going. If you have any questions about the tables, go ahead and ask; I know this game inside and out.

As long as the scoreboard is getting updated, I may as well make my Whirlwind score official.

High-score is updated.

I've haven't played this game in months now...

But I would buy it in an instant if it was released on PSN.

Fallout New Vegas is occupying my PS3 disc slot at the moment.

Alright, who do we talk to about getting this game on 360's Games on Demand? I so need this to be "always on" in my machine.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else, but I figured folks in this thread would want to know:

Just read on Pinball Hall of Fame's facebook page that The Gottlieb Collection HD will be on XBLA for the 360 in January. Details about the ps3 version are forthcoming.
Good news!

That said, I've been to what I think is the right Facebook page and can't find this info. Maybe it means something other than the actual Hall of Fame page?

Edit: Aha! Found it:

GREAT NEWS PINBALL FANS....Pinball Hall of Fame: Gottlieb Collection is coming to XBLA January 2011. This is the first time Gottlieb Pinball will be available to the Xbox 360 community. The HD graphics are amazing and it will include all the same tables as the previous Wii version. More info to come.

Does this game allow you to view the screen vertically? Meaning, can I turn my TV 90 degrees and view the game proper?
PSP: Yes. Others: No. (I think...)

So is there any non hand held video Pinball game that allows a vertical screen? I want to set something up for my basement.

At last, at least us European/Asian 360 gamers will finally get some Williams Pinball action.

I really like both the Williams and Gottlieb collections, but this is getting to be like Namco and their set of dig dug, pole position, galaga, pac-man, etc..

Theres a *ton* more than these 20-30 pinball games out there, port them and I'll buy them!

(Yes, not the best of analogies as Namco released a whole bunch of other volumes and anthologies on PS1, but since then its been remixes of the same stuff ^^;...)

Any more word if Gottlieb will show up on PSN?

If any of you are playing Marvel Pinball on PSN, please feel free to add me on your PSN-friend list. I like it very much, the short time I have played it so far.

PSN User ID: Arkeologen.

I'm late to the news on this, but fuck yeah. Suck it Pinball FX, it's time for some more REAL fake pinball.

I wonder if the collection is still coming out this month. There hasn't been a peep about it since.

Really looking forward to it.

Williams Pinball Classics seems to be finally released in EU on June 17th according to zavvi.com.
Both 360 and PS3
I can't find the title on amazon.co.uk but is also available at game.co.uk on the same date.

The game will cost £17.85 at zavvi and £24.85 at game.

On another note: I don't have a 3D-TV but I can see the potential for this game and other pinball titles (Zen Pinball, Marvel Pinball) if they released a 3D patch...

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I'm a Jr., did a search, and can only post in old threads and didn't see a thread for the new version on 3DS.

Any insiders have any info on this version? I already bought it about 6 times for various platforms, and Farsight only has a video of it that doesn't give much info.

Here's a video link:

On top of that, there's a dispute over which day this comes out.

Gamestop says 9-20, and other sources, including amazon, say about now. My amazon shipping date says tomorrow.

taking this opportunity to profess my love for this game. I don't play it as much as PBFX2 but it's still a MUST BUY for pinball fans. Why the heck aren't there constant tourneys going on in this game AND FX2? I mean, the Spiderman tourney was over a month ago!

Yea, no shit! There should be DLC, and tourneys going for this game and Pinball FX 2 constantly!!! And I missed out on the Spider Man tourney!

We should exchange gamertags for comparing scores for pinball FX2 !!!

Mine's Beefy Hits

Add me if you'd like. Please say in a message that you're a GAFFER.

Well, according to Amazon, the ship date for the 3DS version of Pinball Hall of Fame the Williams Collection has been pushed back to 9-20. Dammit. I was really looking forward to playing it this week too.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait. :(

There's supposed to be an announcement next week at the Pinball Expo in Chicago from Farsight Studios about a new pinball game. Here's hoping it's a Volume 2 of Hall of Fame for the consoles. I'll take more Williams, Bally, or Stern at this point. YAY! About time.

Was going to bump this thread with the announcement as well.

Here's hoping for a Bally Collection!

btw I got over 7 mil on Pinbot recently which would put me at #2. :) Still haven't topped my real life score of 8.9 mil when I used to own one. I was never quite able to flip the board. It has a 7 digit display, so 10 mil would have done it.
