Place Your Bets: Which perspective will RE2make have?

If it's over the shoulder RE4 style it wouldn't be a remake it would be a new game. That camera/control style really only works with more aggressive enemies and more linear action.

It almost has to be fixed perspective.
 
I think it'll be 3rd person since Capcom already has a modern day engine and experience for that. 1st person is too recent; REmake2 got green lit before Capcom revealed RE7 and saw what the response from fans would be.

I think for the best reception from fans, it should be using the fixed camera style from the original games but I just don't see it happening. I'm fine with either 3rd person or fixed. I know REmake isn't going to be too action oriented so I'm fine if they go with fixed camera angles.
 
Unless they go the Revelations route I don't really see Capcom going all the way back to the RE4/5/6 style of game honestly, especially not for a remake of RE2.

The biggest issue with this whole discussion though is indeed that we don't even know what the scale of the project is going to be. A literal sequel to REmake's style of game might have been viable in 2003 or 2004, and I believe is what Mikami originally had planned. If I'm not mistaken though REmake didn't sell quite well enough to warrant that kind of sequel back then. But that kind of game with the standards of 2017 graphics might be too big an undertaking depending on what kind of resources Capcom is even setting aside for the project.

As far as first-person, I can't find it right now, but I think somebody at Capcom implied that there were several different types of RE games in the works, and even implied RE8 wouldn't be first-person. RE7 did not meet their sales expectations, so that might make sense (although I think it would be a shame, as I consider RE7 a masterpiece). As for REmake 2, it began development before RE7 was released, and before Capcom could know how it would be received. I believe it's very likely that they intended for REmake 2 to be a traditional third-person RE in the event of poor reception of RE7.

As for RE2, you keep calling it an action game, but it isn't. The older RE games have combat mechanics, but they're very simplistic, and the focus of combat is more resource management. You don't have to aim at enemies; you just get to a good position and let lock-on do the rest. Combat is really all about which weapon and ammo type you want to use on which enemies. There's very little mechanical depth there, as the focus was on Survival and adventure elements, rather than action or combat, for the older games.

That's essentially what the older RE games are ; point and click adventure games (you literally walk around and check stuff for the majority of the games, plus solve cryptic puzzles) with an emphasis on survival elements such as item/ammo management, and of course horror elements (hence the term, "Survival Horror"). They weren't action games, and the focus wasn't actually placed on combat until RE4.

I was just pointing out how RE2 has markedly more combat in it than the other classic REs (except maybe Code Veronica). Kamiya himself likened the difference to Alien vs Aliens. RE2 is certainly more of an adventure game compared to say, 4, 5, and 6, but it feels more like an action game than RE1.

In any case, I really doubt Capcom would remake RE2 more action style like 4. If it is 3rd person it'll probably still have the slower pacing of the classic games. Maybe it'll feel like a beefier version of the RE5 "Lost in Nightmares" DLC. I still honestly don't see the problem with 1st person though, other than having to entirely redesign the game. This was achieved through a combination of fixed camera angles and very cinematic cutscenes. Moreover, unlike RE7, where Capcom wanted the experience to be personal, immersive, and they wanted you to "be the protagonist" so to speak , RE2 was clearly meant to be an experience where it felt like you were actually playing through a horror movie. It also had a story where you were meant to have some connection to the protagonists.

This style of cinematic presentation and storytelling can't be replicated in first-person. A third-person perspective would at least still allow you to replicate that feeling of connection with the protagonists, and allow for cinematic third-person cutsenes (without breaking immersion by switching perspectives). I still feel like you would a lot of the atmosphere of the original game without fixed camera angles though, and it's look and feel would be heavily compromised with an over the shoulder camera. The environments would just feel so much smaller, and the enemies would feel so much less threatening, not to mention the changes to the core gameplay and design to accommodate the new perspective. It just wouldn't be the same, which is I why would prefer the original game's perspective above all else. Even so, you could at least preserve the original game's storytelling and some of it's cinematic sensibilities with an over the shoulder perspective, so I would much prefer that to first-person if it came to such a choice between the two.

The assets are mostly still Fallout 3, but it recreates the same level design, enemy placement, and even data files that are in RE2. It just proves how much of that game you could do in the structure of a modern RPG.

Would rather have 3D back ground so we can have 2 different play style, classics fixed camera and should camera for the entire game. The original had 2charx2scenarios which offers great replayability. To top the old game, there should be 2charx2scenariosx2play style.

No they should just focus on 1 playstyle, preferably 3rd person fixed camera, no reason on spending resources on 2 compltely different playstyles and game balancing
 
IDGAF which style, and at this point I just want to see the god damn game. It's been in development for years now and for a remake that's a LONG ass time. Unless of course you are SquareEnix then things need to take obscene amounts of time.
