Free to play, aiming for micropayments that provide cosmetic stuff, conveniences, and alternative versions of normal gear that are different, but not outright better.
 
Oh, cool. Guess I don't even have to buy a magazine then, assuming that an account from PS's first year counts.

Also, holy crap that magazine costs 9 dollars.

Yeah, apparently they're giving beta access to everyone who's ever played, including Planetside Reserves. Hell, I logged into an account I made a free trial on in 2009, and apparently I now have rights to the full game and 45 days of game time.
 
Want this to start NAO!!!

Hell, I activated my original PS game, too, to brush up.

Not sure if this is new or not, haven't really kept up with the game in the past month. I just logged into my Station account to update my password and decided to have a little look at my Game Pass subscriptions. I saw PlanetSide 2 at the very bottom but it said Inactive and was tagged as Unlimited Play. Guess they're starting to roll it out on accounts to get ready for the beta (whenever that is.)
 
I seem to have an inactive Planetside 2 Unlimited Play account listed in my Station subscription list. I wonder if everyone has that or just people who are getting into the beta due to an existing PS1 account.

I have that too and never played the first PS but signed up for the beta. No clue if it's there for every existing station account though.
 
Jeez why isn't this on PS3? Sony is foolish in securing Dust 514 but not this one? Isn't SOE owned by Sony though?

Forge Light might be out of the PS3's reach, to be honest. It's a brand new engine whose capabilities far exceed that of Unreal 3, which is used by both DCUO and Dust.
 
I'm definitely getting a new computer for this one. I haven't really been engulfed in an mmofps the closest alternative is I have is playing conquest on BF3 on PS3!

Prepare your body for a a player count that is two orders of magnitude greater.

Actually, come to think of it, Planetside does play a bit like Battlefield at times. Mostly in the areas between bases, since there's usually infantry running around, but plenty of room for vehicles to maneuver as well. The bases themselves are much more tightly packed and have a distinctly Quake-y feel to them.

The last time I played Planetside 1, in Beta, we had hundreds of people in the same area. Vehicles couldn't drive anywhere and basically got stuck on piles of people because it was so packed. From what I read, when the game launched they had 1000 person guilds that routinely fought together.

I couldn't imagine Planetside 2 that has twice as many people. My PC is going to catch on fire.
 
Oh, what I meant was that Battlefield 3 has a player cap in the 10's of players, and that Planetside 2 would have battles with over 1,000. I think the grand plan is to make the maps even bigger and more readily navigable to compensate.

I haven't been able to find the interview, but I was almost sure I read that Sony's plans are to release all or most of any upcoming MMOs on both console and PC.

Beta has not started yet, people who purchase the magazine will get in the beta first, along with planetside 1 past and current players. Supposedly...

lol that sucks. I did play Planetside but i think I gave away that account. I did go back at some point but i haven't the slightest idea when.
