Planetside 2 graphics on PS4 equivalent to 'Ultra' settings on PC

it's clear to see what's happening here, pc users are very agitated that their hardware that cost over $1000 is being matched by a console that only costs $399. I'd be annoyed too if I wasted that much money.

it is not being matched. everybody and their mom knows that the ps4 can not run this game at 60 FPS in at least 1080p and in ultra... they would need to make some sacrifices but this is console gaming and people should accept this.

I think Chinner was playing with a little sarcasm and you just ate it. But i guess the sacrifice for us console users will be digital download only, and i care for boxes something the PC race doesnt.

The statement itself is an impossibility.

A PC game has no limitation. You can always get higher resolution and faster frame rates as time passes and better hardware comes out.

This need for some people to compare the ps4 to PC is some sort of penis envy mentality.

That works both ways, god forbid somebody says the PS4 version looks best in a "console" comparison thread before a raft of idiots descend who have more money than English comprehension skills who must always be justifying their gamer rig expenditure by shitting up console threads with "the PC version will be best" etc.

It's a constant source of thread shitting and the cause of many derailments this past year.

They never can seem to understand the fact that if you compare a like for like price PC with a console that ain't the case, of course a rig twice the prIce is going outperform the console, you would a stupid motherfucker to spend that and not have a better machine.

As for this thread, PC fanboys ....... go tweet the dev and tell them they are full of shit, they are the source of your diminishment ......... Your I7's are quite safe gentlemen ........ their egos don't bruise quite so easily.

Spec wars are OK unless the PC is mentioned. Then the Sony and MS fanboys stop measuring their e-penises by counting pixels and billions of transistors and become proponents of gameplay uber alles and graphics whore name calling.

NPD wars are OK as long as casual games are not mentioned. Then the Sony and MS fanboys stop counting units sold and earnings and start asking the age old question. "What is game?"

Every single thread. They even infest threads talking about PC hardware with "NVIDIA is salty because AMD got dem consoles" inanities. Either everything is fair game or every platform should get its own little ghetto and circlejerk until they get carpal tunnel syndrome.

or there is no "PC" there are so many different possibilities for a PC it's impossible to come up with one standard PC to actually talk about the Specs. PC's can be much higher spec than next gen consoles, but graphically most are not. It's just that simple.

Quit with that childish shit.

Please provide links to £350 worth of components including case, PSU, controller, HDD, GPU, CPU, RAM, Motherboard and all necessary cables that will match/outperform a PS4 to back up your claims?

For this price at the end of last year I built a rig with a quad core phenom II X4, a GTX660, 8gb of ram, a 2tb HDD, a 100gb SSD. Not played any next gen games but black flag yet but BF3 at very high to ultra runs between at 80 fps. I also hit the 120 fps in Blops 2 damn near maxed out. In black flag I'm cpu bound and my fps stays at about whether I'm playing on the lowest settings or nearly maxed out but the FX6300 probably has a better time with it than my 3 year old phenom

Ram prices have gone up a lot but FX cpus have been massively reduced in price so i'm not sure how a similarly priced build now would fare.

The PS4 already has 3 MP FPS games running at 60fps, if they're not looking to join the party I don't even see the point in releasing it.

I tried Warframe and Blacklight - one was scrappy and the other borderline unplayable, if Planetside would run like those on the PS4 then they should probably just spend the dev time refining the PC version and not worry about the PS4 one at all.

Well first it kinda has to actually happen, talk is talk until there is a version running 60 fps @ 1080p on all ultra it is just PR.

some people are not willing to spend $2000 for an extra 30fps hardly anybody notices.

Lol, I waited till every part in my PC went on sale and I got a $1500 PC for $800.

no wonder people are throwing the word "salty" here a lot, instead of potentially making a fool out of yourself you should wait then judge. this discussion should happen after the game release not now.

In my profession I deal with the limitations of hardware constantly, sure you can take two unequal things and make them appear sorta equal on paper, but there is also something that has to be left behind to get there. There is no fool or salt in my comment, there is decades of experience that tells me this. I am almost certain they will make this game run on ultra, but will be given up to get there?

The only real question is the frame rate - 30 or 60 FPS? The rest is known.

If they hit 60 then that will be interesting indeed.

How can they claim this game is optimised is beyond me, on my machine it can go from a whopping 212fps down to 17fps during big battles, which is kinda the point of the game.

All this time spent on optimisation that doesn't seem to be there + cosmetic items and yet the game still doesn't have continent locking, proper meta game, new continents and vehicules (the Harasser came out a while now).

I used to follow their command center episodes with Higby to get some news on the game and saw they seemed to be going nowhere. I mean shit they still don't have the lattice system on Amerish...

I like this GIF.

This is a good GIF.

My netbook can max out Crysis and it cost $250 5 years ago.

Still waiting to see that 11 year Steam badge.

Probably with reduced draw distance or something or the other.

That, or they simply didn't optimize their game on the PC but did for the PS4.

Doesn't really make any sense otherwise.

Most of the devs were either laid off or moved to EQ Next. Don't think PS2 was very successful for them.

That wouldn't be difficult really, they could change some settings down from the "ultra" level like mesh LOD and have it run better without looking any worse.

I hope they've optimized for the console CPUs though, the game isn't gentle on desktop processors as it is.

He will post it in few months.

Well, I did just have a quick look at the badge URLs to make sure that he was telling porkies. There is a format to the URLs if you look at the links below, the 1-2 digits after "steamyears" are the number of years. For posterity:

9 years: http://cdn.steamcommunity.com/public/images/badges/02_years/steamyears902_54.png

10 years: http://cdn.steamcommunity.com/public/images/badges/02_years/steamyears1002_54.png

So if you go with that format, this should be 11 years: http://cdn.steamcommunity.com/public/images/badges/02_years/steamyears1102_54.png

404 not found.

You're right, it's console gaming. The platform developers usually optimize and squeeze every bit of power out of.

Not saying it can be done, but developers have always made these machines do some impressive things that weren't thought to be possible.

I thought BF4 was more like 50 fps average and KZ a 45 average. Those don't seem like bad targets for the PS2 guys if they just get labelled as 60 fps at the end of the day.

BF4 is actually a very smooth 60 in any mode but Conquest Large and even then it holds up pretty well.

Shadow Fall definitely isn't 60 though. 45 sounds about right on average but it fluctuates a lot with player counts. I usually play Classic because of that.

it's statements like "killzone multiplayer runs at 60fps almost all the time" which lead to the scepticism in threads like this.

Yeah someone can pull up a video with fraps running to show what frames a PC is getting, how can you tell on a console?

I don't believe you did, if I'm honest.

£500 maybe? £350 doesn't seem possible. Flung the above together using the cheapest components available too, and there's no accessories such as mice, keyboards and controllers.

Hmm...

It's worth noting that PC gamers always round down to the nearest 100 when discussing price. This is countered by everything power related being rounded upwards, from frames per second to in-game settings.

I believed it prelaunch too. I hope they can patch it up since that's probably my biggest disappointment with the game. Campaign performance is better than I expected though.

My imagination only runs for a few minutes before crashing. Back when I was younger, it would run all day long. Probably needs to be replaced.

Dream bigger

12k downsampled to 8k on a 150 inch OLED at 240fps in glassesless stereo 3D, 7.2 audio, and the comfiest fucking couch that's ever caressed your ass.

This reminds me of the book Cloud Atlas, I think I remember it mentioning adverts being broadcast on the moons surface.

I'm an 11 year badge Steam user with over 300 games and own (probably) every Valve game on Steam. I'm in a great place to criticise Valve if I like. Let's not jump to conclusions here.

Coming from the person with the "11 year steam badge" even though steam only recently had it's 10th anniversary.......... Sure, I completely believe you

I haven't played Killzone yet (picked one up cheap on ebay but it's not here yet). BF4 I've been playing TDM on and it's 60 often enough as to make no odds when things drop occasionally - demolishing a building is a good way to slow it down. Much happier with 60 and drop spells than 'locked 30'. Ghosts is a similar story, it's 60 most of the time except with some scopes which is pretty strange.

I draw the line if you're running around the map not fighting and the game just gluts every time the camera points the wrong way.

I agree with you, except:

2012: "Jon Peddie Research are estimating that there are 54 million Performance and Enthusiast class PC gamers worldwide. JPR thinks that by 2015 there will be 72 million PC gamers by 2015" ($1000+ PCs)

http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/27036-gaming-market-booming

2013: "The PC gaming market is growing. Worldwide, PC gaming makes up nearly 40% of the total gaming market, larger than the console gaming market."

Disclaimer: This post is only a specific reply to a specific post, not trying to prove anything else. If the PS4 gets a great PS2 port then it's all good.

I don't have a horse in this, but:

That first link is an estimate, based on....nothing. No data provided. The second is a figure given, with again, no data provided. They are also both unknown - to me - as any kind of credible sites.

Perhaps a better way to provide data, is to actually provide data. I can find links that claim Elvis is sitting in a steak house in Chicago, but I can't give anything to back them up as legit.

Remember when PC gamers swore Crysis would never run on an Xbox 360. Crytek pulled it off without many concessions and in many ways improved it. When the spec is known it is very easy to do optimizations and perf targets.
