• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Play that game live for all of NeoGAF!

It dies randomly on its own, I have no idea when it does unless someone tells me since I don't keep the stream page open (too annoying with the delayed sound playing over the normal).

If you want to try FLE later tonight chapel, I'm game. I'm about to go eat soon and am just dinking around the end of Trial Mode on FF12 intl right now.

Do what I do - mute the sound on the player on the browser. The studio for me seems to cause some slowdown for me so I just watch the stream from my livestream site. But, at least I can tell if it ever goes down.

Got my stream working, this is really cool! But anyway, gonna be playing a little DQ8 right now, a little Halo 3 later tonight. I'm really on the DQ trip since DQ9 came out.

The only problem with using FMLE to stream on livestream is that it apparantly doesn't record. Unless there's something you have to enable via URL to do that.

EDIT - Never mind, I just suck at browsing the livestream studio.

Yeah I would think Soundflower would allow it but I can't figure it out.
FMLE doesn't have OS X either. Blagh.
Use http://rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/

It allows you to do what you want, which would be send what you hear to the stream and you could mix in your mic as well. You could make it so you don't hear yourself either, or if you use headphones you can hear yourself slightly.

http://www.podcastfreeamerica.com/features/entry/how-to-set-up-audio-hijack-pro-for-podcasting/

I didn't check the link too thoroughly but hopefully it helps.

So uh, I kinda got tired of streaming live BF1943 gameplay. There's only so much you can do. I plan on streaming some Coral Island gameplay when it's unlocked, but besides that...
...what else would people like to see?
I have a shitload of PS3 titles, some I want to go through again (Ghostbusters), some I haven't touched (Silent Hill).. etc

Or I can just play through Suikoden II again. :lol

Ok, I'm gonna try to finish up trial mode (fighting Yiazmat now) and will be around if you want to try FME, chapel.

I can't mute it or talk in the livestream.com page, those buttons or whatever are missing.

Yeah, that didn't work out so well and Audio Hijack Pro put static over the sound after 10 minutes. I have no idea why the webcaster won't just pick up from the input. Clearly that works since I can get it with Audio Hijack Pro.
Fixed the sound with another app. I just need a better thing for the video.

Now broadcasting Lord of the Rings Online for the next couple of hours. Mid twenties level Hobbit Warden in the Bree / North Downs area.

If its the first time you've viewed broadcasts via xfire, you'll have to download a small plugin for your browser, nothing major. If you have an xfire account, you can chat with me or other folks in the chat room at the above page.

I think xfire is cool and all, but its just too much to get things going. Having to download something is too much to ask, and requiring an xfire account to chat just sucks. Thats why I chose livestream over anything like that, though justin.tv remains a healthy competitor there are pros and cons for either.

Ok, chapel patiently guided me through it, and now I'm using FMLE instead of procaster. It looks better (stills look about the same as they do on SS but a bit smaller), and it shouldn't randomly disconnect now. So I plan on playing some faster-paced stuff sometime once I finish P4. Thanks again for your patience and all the help, chapel. You're a nice guy.

No, that's cool, definitely not trying to tell people to download one or the other.

Here's why I choose XFire:
  • I already use it as my in game IM client. Not having to alt-tab out of a game to IM someone is great. And it can integrate AIM/ICQ accounts also. They should integrate MSN/Yahoo soon enough.
  • I tried using the one you linked in the OP since it has a built in desktop/game streaming app... but it doesn't seem to work with XFire, and well, since I already use xfire, its not a good solution for me. I guess their DirectX API calls conflict with each other.
  • JTV doesn't have an integrated app for game/desktop streaming. I have to use some third party app to do that. Not my thing I guess.

I think it would be great if folks could chat on my broadcast without having to have an xfire account. However, I don't think they're doing anything shady as xfire is a pretty non-intrusive application and registering / downloading is free. You don't even need the app to register and chat. So really, the only thing you HAVE to download is the plugin for your browser which takes a second and is just like many other media plugins out there. Fairly unobtrusive from what I can tell.

I think each service has its pros and cons.

Livestream:
+ With procaster its got full streaming support with desktop/game integration
+ Shared channels
- Fairly new community
- Ability to get exposure outside of posting about your channel on boards seems limited

Justin TV:
+ VERY well known
+ Tons of exposure through their community thanks to its size
- No integrated desktop/gaming app streamer

Xfire:
+ Ingame IM client w/ Full integration with almost every directx windows game, broadcasting is a simple keypress to start
+ HUGE gaming community already established so its quite easy to get watchers of your broadcast simply from other folks wandering in
- Registration required for users who are watching your broadcast if they want to chat
- Windows directx app only... so no broadcasting emulators or tv-inputs
PC Gaming Master Race

Just my opinions and observations :) Folks should use whichever they feel most comfortable with.

I'd love to join in on this, but sadly my computer refuses to record from my speaker's audio. The issue seems to be stemming from my USB headphones, I believe. But no matter what I select as the recording device, it always ends up being my mic.

If I do get it up and going, I'll probably record a bunch of TF2, L4D, STALKER, Battlefield 2, Project Reality, Prototype, and what ever else I feel like.

EDIT: Disregard that! I found that if I plug in a second pair of speakers via the sound jacks, I can set THAT to record audio from its speakers, while still having my usb headphones play the sounds back to me. :D

EDIT2: ... er, no. Apparently that didn't fix it. I can record my speaker's audio with audacity, but the little recording program isn't having any of that shit.

What operating system are you running? There should be an option to record what you hear. For vista/7 there is a built in recording item called Stereo Mix or something like that. There should be something similar for windows xp but its been a while.

You should use Flash Media Live Encoder + VhScrCap instead of procaster, its a much better setup. I just got Red Scarlet setup on it and its going great for her, and its been great for me.

I've found out that my usb headphone drivers are shitting all over my regular audio drivers. If I don't have my usb headphone plugged in, I can record everything properly. The downside is that my only other sound source is the inbuilt speakers in my monitor (needless to say, they're shit).

I'll try to set up a recording of TF2, and see how I go with really shitty audio (which shouldn't matter too much).

I wonder how much this is eating up my upload bandwidth...

I'll get some TF2 up...

http://www.livestream.com/kritz

I'm not sure how the audio balance is, but I guess I'll learn as I go.

Edit: okay, done with TF2 for now. I might start a recording of something else later. Perhaps Prototype / Left 4 Dead / STALKER: Clear Sky / Project Reality (BF2 mod)?

Well, the stream apparently never died during Metroid Prime, so that was really neat. Unfortunately, I hadn't played the game in about a year (I played it like 2 months ago but stopped after about a half hour) so I was extremely bad, and forgot an item so it gave me 98%, and I called my time exactly, 2:45. So crappy, but the folks watching said it was fun anyway, and I had fun playing, too. Sorry again for being so out of practice, guys.

At least
mp05barz.gif
was fun.

:lol You are being way WAY too hard on yourself! I thought it was very cool and you showed off lots of nifty little tricks too. I enjoyed the last 30 mins or so I saw.

I watched some of it and it was fun. Haven't played the game in a while so it was cool to see the environments and such again. Also saw a lot of stuff I hadn't seen before, since I didn't bother to collect most of the powerups :)

Good stuff!

I'll be streaming again shortly with Metroid Redesign. This is pretty cool :)

Hopefully soon I'll have enough content to start putting stuff on auto-queue, or maybe do something else besides play random rom hacks and other stuff.

EDIT - Some of this technical stuff is annoying, it should be working now.

Well it failed to record my previous stream again. Gonna have to look that up and see what's going on there.

EDIT - What I'll likely do is just have FMLE record my streams locally so that if something does screw up I'll at least have some sort of record to work with. I'll also be streaming Metroid Redesign again right now, just cause.

Add this to the end of the url you use in fmle:
/autoVOD=true

It will save them for video on demand, and be easier to use for autoplay.

Rather than post everyday, it's probably safe to say that I'll be streaming Romancing SaGa from 7-11 everyday until I beat the game (which is probably in a few days). After that, I'll be taking votes on what game to play next!

So I had planned on having a community channel of sorts but I am thinking it might be too much trouble to organize everyone. So I was thinking of an alternative which would be a site with a calendar or something to show a schedule and links to everyones streams.

I didn't stay on very long last time. So tonight I'm on as long as I'm alive. I just hope Billy Bob doesn't show because I'm having trouble figuring how to block/ban people.

That sounds like it'd work well.

You can ban him in the studio or using procasters chatroom. The studio is at http://livestream.com/channel/studio I think, either that or channels. I'm on my phone at work so I can't check.

Something I wish Livestream had was a simple way to check and see if a Stream is live or not so it would be super easy to write a image output script in PHP or something.

Then we could just have the OP full of these little images that would say when people were Live or not.

There might be an api to use. Could also make something for the casters to say they are live.

After Romancing SaGa, I think I'll play ICO this weekend. I'll try to beat it all in one go...shouldn't take more than 5-6 hours.

Hmmm... I may try this. My crappy external capture card was having some... issues with Vista when I tried this with justin.tv, but maybe livestream's software is better.

I never played ICO...if I watch you play it, do I effectively ruin anything captivating about it?

What would people prefer? Just links or embedding? What about chat? We could use a unified chat system like irc or something like that. Any ideas you guys have?

Good question...I don't really know. Regardless of whether or not you watch, you'll definitely have to go play it yourself.

Also, figured out my problem with recording - apparently Livestream doesn't like recording H.264 videos.

Its all in your settings. I have been using h264 and the recordings are fine. Take a screenshot of your settings.
