I agree PlayStation need to invest in lots of games but comparing them to Xbox in regards to aquisitions like Bethesda is a bit moot if you ask me.I don't see any scenario where Sony geenlights PlayStation for a 7 billion dollar publisher aquisition....they have their own strategy based on what they have to spend.....do they need to spend wisely,sure....but they ain't gonna be investing in the same way Microsoft have been lately. Here is my take and please hear me out till the end as I am someone who owns both new gen systems.
329 mil?, silly. Meanwhile, MS is spending billions on 1st party studios on top acquiring massive 3rd party publishers/studios AND practically giving insane budgets on new titles that are in the works now.
329 mil is very underwhelming if I am being honest and feels like they are being greedy and lazy. I don't know what or how many games will even use $329.
Current game dev budgets are extremely high and for next gen titles seems super low.
Then again I am not an analyst or a financial advisor/expert i an only observing from what I see other companies do.
This doesn't bode well for the future and Sony for me personally though. God of War Raganarok and Ratchet are currently the only games I am looking forward too, and Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2.
While those are solid titles, that's nowhere near enough of they want to compete with folks from Rare, Playground Games, The Inititative, Bethesda studios that includes Arkane, id software, Machinegames, Tangoworks, inXile, Obsidian and others to come.
Sure they have Naughty Dog, but Naughty Dog releases a title like once or twice per generation in a span of 7 or so years. We only got Uncharted 4 which was a good game but a fatigued franchise if you ask me and of course the swan song that was TLOU 2. TLOU 2 was a stellar title that I thoroughly enjoyed despite being pissed off at some of the story elements.
They are gonna need to invest way more money, because right now the amount of games Sony has announced is a small amount compared to MS.
We already have a good road map for MS titles such as Awoved, Fable, Forza Motorsport 8, Forza Horizon 5, Everwild, State of Decay 3, Perfect Dark, Hellblade 2, inXile 1st Person RPG, Halo Infinite and whatever else gets announced this year.
With Sony officially we only know of God Of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank, Returnal, Gran Turismo 7 and Final Fantasy 16. While both companies have promising titles, I just feel that Sony needs to announce more games soon and start investing a bit more money.
Bluepoint not being acquired to this point baffles me. Great job with Shadow of the Colossus and Demons Souls Femake. Wtf you doing? Why you not buy Bluepoimt sony lol.
Maybe I am speaking to early. We gonna have yo wait till this summer too see some new exciting stuff during E3 Digital. Either way, my point still stands, please acquire more studios and/or invest more money in new titles and deals if you wanna keep your customers excited.
I am glad I have both systems, at the end of the day ill be able to enjoy best of both worlds and I highly suggest you do same.
I agree with you except that with the exception of Bethesda stuff Microsoft first party is still mostly garbage. Im not convinced any of these bethesda games will be permanent exclusives either. As far MS actual first party as of now:
- One year isnt enough to fix the mess that was the halo infinite reveal and 343 continues to have turnover
-Gears studio heads left
-The inaitive director left
-Rares creative director left and they dont even know what kind of game theyre making.
- Last we heard of hell blade they were still picking locations
- Fable and avowed are years away.
-Xbox isnt making the return on investment with game pass yet hence an attempted doubling of xbox gold.
-As of right now xbox has tepid Japanese support at best.
Its not all sunshine and rainbows at MS either.
People come and go dude. I would not be too concerned to he honest.
Halo Infinite gameplay wise looks phenomenal. Visual needs a lot of work and I am grateful they delayed the game.
Sea of Thieves is the best experience I've ever had in games last gen and following through on the series x. (I am in minority here)
My favorite games of last gen are the following - Bloodborne, God of War, Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, Residsnt Evil 7, and Dark Souls 3, Animal Crossing. FF7 Remake, RE2 Remake.
As you can see i like variety of titles.
As for Rare, I personally know Mike Chapman and Joe Neate and would interview them every single year at E3 since 2016 to 2019 and I know a bit more about them in how they operate and what they do.
In a nutshell, Rare works with a lot of protypes and different gameplay loops. They have a lot of stuff in their heads, but only few are presented to the big guys and then green lit, simply because it costs a lot of money and time.
They also told me they are sticking to new IPs only and any old IPs are left to the other studios and they can land help if needed.
Rare never said they don't know what Everwild is. People misinterpreted what they said and meant. They are experiment with the gameplay loop of everwild and seeing what sticks. It was same thing with Sea of Thieves.
I am glad Furgesson left to be honest. Gears started taking a dive despite 5 being better than 4. I believe that Gears is a franchise that needs the God of War treatment. A complete reboot and possibly change of a formula thats new and different yet familiar in some ways.
You say Avowed and Fable are years away but yet don't think that Naughty Dog's and Sony Santa Monica next game isn't either?
Horizon Forbidden West may be a good game, but its nowhere near the levels of Fable/Halo identity or God of War and Naughty Dog games.
Naughty Dog title won't arrive until 2023 at earliest and 2025 latest if not 2026 lol.
As far as how much Game Pass or whatever Xbox strategy has i jave no clue how their stuff works. Although its been reported they already made their money back from the bethesda purchase on top of profit as well. I am pretty confident that a trillion dollar company knows far better the business side of things than any of us do here.
If it wasn't working, no one would do it. They have professional financial advisors and analyst that have far more skill and knowledge.
Also, the reason the director left The Initiative is because his brother died due to illness and he left to be with his family. Has nothing to do with inner works at Microsoft.
343 would be only studio id be somewhat concered about.
Of course there is a point to comparing roadmaps. Not sure why you don't think so. This is basically what this thread is about, its discussing how Sony is not investing as much money as the competition and we already seeing how the competition has more games lined up for further years. Not sure why Sony is refusing to do so, they either A) too confident or B) simply don't have as much to talk about. Either way, don't derail the subject when this is exactly what this thread is about. There's not really any point in comparing their roadmaps from what we've seen
Xbox showcased their long term game (2022, 2023 and possibily some of that even further beyond)
Sony basically just showed off their lineup for their first year, with the single exception God of War which we all know is a 2022 title.
Oh and Horizon is definitley a bigger IP than Fable at this point

Horizon has only 1 game dude I am sorry and was made by a studio that's know for killzone.
While Horizon was a decent game, its far from a game that I'd buy a system for. God of War and TLOU are far superior and to be honest Horizon is only more of a looker than anything else. I beaten the game, did dlc and have 100% trophies and by the end the game was boring me to death. Gameplay wasn't that satisfying, protagonist was meh and the story was ok. The only thing I enjoyed were the robot designs and asthetics and technicalities of the game. That's it. Ill gladly play Horizon 2 but I am not nuts about it.
Fable spans across multiple generations and has been begged for an enterinity. It also screams Xbox, people would purchase an Xbox for Fable just like they did for Halo and Gears.
I am sorry but thats not even a matter of opinion or a proper comparison. Its a simple fact that Fable already has 3 games and is many fans including my fans have been begging for it to return on a next gen system.
Also, saying that Horizon is bigger than Fable at this point makes 0 sense. Just because a franchise was absent for 1 generation doesn't make it smaller or bigger.
Fable is Fable. Fable 1 and 2 were fantastic games, Fable 3 is where it went to the gutter.
You gonna tell me DOOM is not big too because it was absent for quite a while and then made an insane comeback? Or Half Life? Half Life was absent for over a decade and managed to sell millions despite the requirement for an expensive VR device. Yeah. No.
Oh and Horizon is definitley a bigger IP than Fable at this point
Why you wasting your time. Fable games were all mediocre at best.Sorry which franchise achieved over 10 million sales with one game?
I am more serious than you are and no, this is not a pissing contest by any means. You obviously feel threatened that someone brought in good non bias discussion to the table and you don't have much to show for it. Also, using youtube metrics pretty much explains what kind of a individual you are. This convo is over, you bring 0 value to the discussion. Are you being serious? The thread is about contracts they've signed in the span of 7 months. It tells us absolutely nothing about their other investments in the sphere and you're just reaching to the stars trying to draw some type of conclusion from it.
Sony showed their roadmap for 2020/2021. Xbox showed their roadmap for 2022 and beyond, because that's all they could actually show.
You turned it into an xbox vs playstation pissing contest so don't give me that derailment bs.
Horizon sold more with one game that Fable did with three. Or should we look at engagement numbers instead?
Xbox's official YouTube channel has 1 million views for Fable
PlayStations official YouTube channel has 10 million views.
It's the bigger IP
Horizon zero dawn costs 40 milions total.Doesn't seem like much when you think about how much their exclusives make.

Sorry Can of Ass Whooping but your Ass just got an Ass of Can Whooping itself. Good luck in your future endeavors.
I get that but like I was thinking they spent more on publishing and marketing some third party games but this honestly seems like nothing. This is third party deals not first Party.
It's crazy when I think about the quality of the game and that was all it cost. Why Sony doesn't invest even more in these studios when that was all it took to make that game is beyond me. They could have created 8 incredible first party games with that money for one year.Horizon zero dawn costs 40 milions total.
I don't get this kinda attitude, maybe Sonytools shouldn't be asshats.didnt take long for xbrats to come shit up the thread, wah wah wah am i doing it right? should i hit the report button like they do? lol
Literally only publishers call them first party games because of marketing, unless people like Colin Moriarty are liars and second party developers (developers close to first party publishers) don't exist either. No that just means it wasn't made by a first party developer
They call them first party developers because the first party (Sony) owns them
Likewise they call them first party games because the first party (Sony) owns them

It's to differentiate corporate false marketing drivel from the games made internally and it's very much a thing.
Your first post is some shit tier conclusion about how Sony isn't investing enough based entirely on some contracts they made with external developers in a 7 months period.
Which is the better metric for determining the the strength of an IP? Your opinion or engagment and sale numbers.
Be honest, you came into this thread with some faux integrity just to flex the Bethesda aqui
Sad but true. Seems its hard for people to enjoy both platforms, I would be mad too i guess if I was a piss poor peasant who couldn't afford both. Jealously is strong with that one PlayStation fan.Everytime a PlayStation fan walks into the classroom with the rest of the kids...

Virtue signaling is a human trait. Neutrality to shield oneself in arguments is an unconscious self response when threatened... to try to gain moral superiority over the target and in the process deflect questions regarding the motivation behind certain opinions - how one derives to them. For the repeater however, it's just a tactic - sooner or later they become self-aware. Doesn't really change reality, only what they perceive and believe others should perceive about them in their built up cyber image. Indifference to a particular topic/question/argument is not neutrality... something folks confuse (some purposefully). It's practiced a lot, by the commoner and mods, here, and elsewhere (reeera is ground zero). Why do you morons think the simple process of clicking buy on amazon gives you protection when you're an obvious fanboy?
I own a gaming PC, Two Xbox Ones and even a Nintendo Switch at one point. I'm not going to try and deny my obvious bias just because I can perform the life skill of buying a product. It's the dumbest argument I see repeated on here.
The only reason I don't even have a series X right now is becaue you can't buy the damn thing

If you ever bothered to read what I actually said in my initial posts you would realize that I am not a fanboy.
I owned every system since the 2000s era. I had ps2, xbox and GameCube, ps3, 360 and wii, wii u, ps4 and Xbox one, ps5 and Xbox series x and PC all through out both decades.
I've spent majority of my time gaming on the PS4. I have close to 100 platinums. I barely touched my Xbox One because there was barely anything to play when it launched and beyond. I only played Halo 5, Gears 4 and Horizon 3.
Its only recently that I started getting back into the Xbox eco system. Xbox's new strategy, hardware and game pass has made me practically abandoning the PS eco system simply because the future games are looking more appealing to me and I like the overall consumer approach they are taking.
I do not want to spend $70 on exclusives that I might only play once. The fact that I will get to play Elder Scrolls 6 and Fable day 1 at basically zero cost is absurd to me. $70 is not worth it for me if I am gonna play the game only once and call it a day.
It has to be an amazing exclusive like Bloodborne 2 or something next level. I been saving an absurd amount of money on gaming over the last year or so thanks to Game Pass.
I have my PS5 because I am a Gamer and as I stated clearly I want to enjoy both of best worlds.
You are obviously not able to read or have horrible reading comprehension, because i stated in my 1st post I want a healthy completion and I want good content on both platforms.
Dude. You have an avatar with a Sony beanie. Get the fuck out of here
Damn. Your reading comprehension is worse than I thought. You also sound really triggered. Whats the matter, your mom and dad beat you when you were young? So angry, I love it. Please get more pissed off. Its hilarious. You're a fanboy. Admit it. It looks even more pathetic that you feel the need to reafirm people in your in post that you're a "gAymER" before you go on a one sided rant sucking xbox's dick when they had nothing to do with this thread
I thing sony didn't announced everything. Here is my take and please hear me out till the end as I am someone who owns both new gen systems.

Next Sony Santa Monica game is planned to be released later this year. They also are supposed to have a 2nd game track working at the same time in another game, that is rumored to be a new IP.Rare never said they don't know what Everwild is. People misinterpreted what they said and meant. They are experiment with the gameplay loop of everwild and seeing what sticks. It was same thing with Sea of Thieves.

No it's not. They paid 230 million for insomniac, which was one of the best 3rd parties out there at the time. That is not a lot of money.
Im calling BS on the source. That number and what they are saying doesn't make sense. I doubt the actual numbers sony has spent on 3rd party will ever get out.
