Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

High Velocity Bowling has really drab overall visuals and the nastiest looking menus in any PSN game but the game part is really damn solid. Great fun.

Nah, the looks are fine, it just goes for the "classic," 1950s-ish bowling feel.

Just want to know if table tennis in Sports Champions accomodates people who normally play with the paddle held penhold style. WSR table tennis by design only allows the right side of the paddle to face the table when doing backhand from the left side of the table. I've been waiting for a table tennis game that has this feature so I'm wondering if SC is the one.

You can, but since the Move controller is a lot thicker than an actual paddle, you might not get the same level of responsiveness. But if you try it out, I'd recommend placing your fingers around the controller between the buttons and the orb on top.

You can emulate the grip, but it just isn't the same.

I'm not planning on getting Move until a bit later, but after a weekend of shopping in SoCal, I'm quite discouraged by what I saw in stores. In quite a few stores in LA and OC, looks like nobody really knows about the Move and all the shelves were completely full of the controllers and bundles. Parden the pun, but it did not look like they were moving at all. This does not give me great hopes that developers will feel confident enough to put significant resources into developing deeper, hardcore games for the Move.

Yeah in some areas the move is simply not selling well. However in other ares like here in midtown NYC, people were lining up for this thing. Its also sold out in many locations around the east coast.

My boyfriend and I just played a multiplayer game of Tumble in the demo. It was a ton of fun and seems to cement a purchase of the game later tonight. I didn't expect that game, of all the games that are out, to have a very compelling multiplayer aspect to it (not online though, as far as I know). It's sort of a digital, slightly different Jenga experience with a surprising amount of strategy possible (intentionally making leaning structures, etc.) .

I just got back from my brother's house where I left my Move. Him and his wife love it and asked if they could play a bit more before they decide to buy it. I won't get it back until Tuesday night.

That's a combination of a few things. Firstly, they haven't really done a very effective job yet of advertising PS Move. There's a commercial but its deployment so far is rather limited. I think they just wanted to hurry up and get stock in stores and have it ready to go for the holidays.

Also, it is kind of expensive. If you don't have a PS3, you're looking at $399 to get into it. If you do have a PS3, you're looking at around $100 to get into it. A lot of people will hold off simply until there's some big title release for PS Move, until there's a price drop on the PS3 itself, or they'll just hold off altogether. Also, I think it's abundantly clear that they have shipped out a shitload of PS Move controllers. More than anyone will need for a very long time. As far as support for the device goes, I think that we'll see plenty of developer support where it makes sense. Nobody wants to see developers shoehorn Move into a game where it isn't necessary or beneficial.

Sony should just bite the bullet and sell some move-like controller as a main controller with PS4. This thing clearly can work as well with standard games as it can with various motion control only games and minigames. Then sell DS4 as a classic controller just like Nintendo is doing.

One thing they can improve with it is some kind of integrated calibration solution, where you do it once on the OS level and then don't have to do it for every game. I'm a little surprised Nintendo even released MW+ with the ridiculous constant recalibration requirement that thing has. Does your Move calibration stays saved when you do it in any of the games?

Look at Ubisoft, it has already happened. And I bet it will continue, as with hardware sales more devs jump on the train.

Weird though, that Ubisoft also published RUSE? Or is that not developed in-house?

(Edit: Yay for not being a junior anymore. FINALLY. Just took me almost 3 years lol)

Co-worker is planning on getting a Bundle with the PS3. She hated PS3 before that.

I think Move will do fairly well, if only because PS3 owners are pretty receptive to new experiences (see: Heavy Rain sales).

Yeah, I think it should do well also. I actually had a friend of mine ask me about it....someone who is pretty connected with games, but not really a motion controller guy. He said it was cheaper for him then getting a Wii.

What's the litmus test for this thing (sales-wise) Are they (NPD) going to track Move hardware do you think (I'd guess no)? Or is Sports Champions gonna be our only indicator, as it should attach at like a 90% rate to Move probably.

^

First indication of sales for Move should come out in about 10 hours, which is when the PAL charts are up. I'm not sure if they'll say anything hardware numbers wise, but you'll definitely be able to see where the software is ranking.

------

I think I need to get The Shoot just for a fun time shooting stuff.

The pointer is so accurate and smooth for me that it's a joy to play. Add to that the powerups and you have a really fun game.

*360 spins all the way to GAME*

Here in Vancouver it is selling pretty nicely from what I have seen. I had to go to 5 different stores to find a move controller the day after launch and there was a pretty big crowd at Futureshop having a blast with table tennis. Once people try it they see what the difference is.

Nope its find the way they doing it right, not every like motion controls.

NPD will definitely track it, whether or not they report it in the free release is something else entirely.

If the game bombs as badly as I think it's going to then they're not going to continue.

Lets hope it does!

PS3 customers arent exactly the casual gamers and try to avoid the Wii-typical (third-party, casual targeted) shovel ware.

Wife and I tried it out yesterday at the Sony store here in town and rather enjoyed it. Picked up our bundle + 2nd move from TRU this morning and played it for several hours when we got home and set it up. Almost all of that time was spent with Tumble and the demo for Kung Fu Rider.

What I cannot understand is why Planet Mini Golf doesn't let you use Move in the demo. It doesn't seem like something that would help sell the game, especially since it's on the Move section from the PSN Store. :lol

Overall, I'm impressed and really liking it. The delay in movement is quite a bit lower than I was expecting (almost not there) especially compared to the Wii. It's also way way more responsive in general to the point where I think an actual Jenga game would work really well. I'm going to try out the Time Crisis demo later tonight (love gun games) and see if it'll be worth getting. I also cannot wait to try archery with 2 Moves.

Hey guys, I just posted a gameplay video of Time Crisis: Razing Storm with some impressions over at PS3Attitude. Thought i'd share it here for those that don't have access to it.

Basically, I'm still very underwhelmed with the game. I don't like having the aiming reticule around at all times. I rather not chase enemies on screen with a machine gun by mindlessly holding down the trigger.

I don't have a GunCon 3 though so I have no clue how it plays with it. It might be a lot more fun though. With the Move, even though it's really accurate I can just lay back and snooze a bit. I miss the thrill of an actual Time Crisis game ;(

Ah ordered myself a starter pack and nav controller, nothing released so far has interested me but cannot help get a new gizmo when it releases, first I was leaching off my parents and now my sister. :( She wants it for Singstar Dance and Killzone 3 interests me the most however from the impressions here on Gaf Sports Champions seems to be a good little game.

I just hate that it uses cursor shooting. I just read that Dead space extraction will use the same method. I want arcade style shooting, point at the screen aim and shoot. I dont want to be moving the cursor around :(

I'm fairly certain that simply isn't possible with Move, unless the player is told (and always does) remain stationary.

The system uses Magnetometers to determine direction, and the gyro's to determine orientation.

So, in a nutshell, if you move around, your sight picture changes, meaning you would be aiming at a different angle. Since it uses Magnetometers, this difference in angle is going to translate into really strange pointer functionality. The only way to avoid this would be to use the ball to track position, and then use everything else to determine where the player is aiming. Getting this 'perfect' could be pretty difficult, and more than likely would introduce some lag.

I would recommend trying The Shoot demo, because the demo is much better than Time Crisis and it does not use a cursor for aiming.

Honestly I have not seen a shooter I would want to play with the Move, but The Shoot is the best current attempt im my opinion. I'm more of a hardcore shooter fan so I'm use to the analog controls. I really doubt my opinion will change with Socom 4 or Killzone 3, but at least I have the option of choice since I made the Move investment...

I'm really looking forward to the fighting game coming out later this year and enjoyed the Gladiator and archery games. I still need to play the other demos, but the Move has a lot of potential with kids or group oriented games for non-gamers. I still need to be sold on the hardcore games using Move controls, but it's great to have motion controlled games with HD visuals...

When you move around the accelerometers provide basic positional movement and the camera does error correction.

It is a "complicated" way to do things but its exactly what is happening in games like Tumble.
It works well and is what you just described (edit for clear english).

I have to admit, I have been reading a lot of positive feedback on the Move controller. I'm actually shocked. I thought too many people would have perceived it as a Wii knock off.

The only thing that is holding me back from purchasing the thing is a good bundle. I don't want to get the game with Sports Champions or Eye Pet (Best Buy exclusive bundle) because I'm not into sport minigame stuff or pet simulators.

Now, if they did a bundle with Time Crisis 4 or The Shoot. I guess I would change my mind :D

I thought the same when I first played it as it had no cursor and then the second time I recalibrated it a cursor appeared, mate of mine said it's a bug or something.

So I can't unlock the 4th level in Tumble for the life of me (the one after the level where you have to blow up the stack). I've gotten all the medals in the first 2 levels, but I can't hit the target medal or get the home run in the demolition one. Do I need to get both of those before the 4th unlocks?

I never would have thought that at my age, a game about stacking blocks would prove to be too difficult for me :(

Sony is probably working that angle - viral marketing from people who have it, trying to save some money before black friday :).

And it does seem like a smart strategy since a LOT of people in this thread loved move, and a lot of those were not sure about it before trying it out.

I'm surprised there are not more demo stations set up at places that are selling Move.

I'm also firmly believing that launch quantities were purposefully limited (at least in my area that seems to be the case).

:lol dont fool him. hr move is horrid

The Shoot is a great game.

I love the humour of the "faked western", with all the enemies being painted pieces of wood (you can even see the movement mechanism of the ones that goes towards you), and all the stuff of keeping director happy with high combos, instead of life-energy bar.

Aside of the problem of the turning 360 to trigger the bullet-time, I see some lack of precision (or confusing instructions) about the minievents of crouching turning the controller down or avoidind, turning to left-righ. I nearly always get hit, and I'm not sure if I'm moving the controller in the correct way.

But is a funny game. Anyone knows if the demo is the whole western scenario? Because, if it's in that way, it seems a very short game.

Still pissed at Capcom that they didn't patch the normal RE5 version. :-/

Join the club :( I love RE5 so much (my fave game of the generation after Uncharted 2), but I'm not about to buy it again after buying every piece of DLC for the original version.

For those of you in SF, Sony rented out a retail space on Market and Montgomery that lets you demo Move. It's pretty impressive. They had two huge move controllers on the sidewalk and a big playstation move sign. I brought my gf and she had a lot of fun with Start the party. I tried Shoot and sports champions and didn't see any noticeable problems with the pointer. I'll probably pick one up for the holidays.

Hmm, I came out of the best buy demo store not very interested. The lag/responsiveness was horrid. I mean, I only played Table Tennis, but when the ball moves pretty fast and I move my paddle to position where I want to hit it, it seems to trail behind and I "accidentally" hit the ball off the table.

This was on one of those new Samsung LED TV's so, i'm going to guess game mode wasn't turned on, but I must say the graphics blow the Wii WAY out of the water (just look at frisbee golf).

Hopefully I can find another demo/station before I totally dismiss it.

Anyone know what firmware the bundle comes with?

consider it was WW launch... we had it in Croatia on 15th.

You don't know you want it yet. But that game is called Sports Champions.

I'm confused....is High Velocity Bowling getting a patch here, or are they seriously going to charge $40 for a $10 game?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0040546HO/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Amazon lists it as coming out tuesday on disk. Is this the same $10 game on psn that the rest of the world got patched for free and psn + owners supposedly get patched free too? Or is this some superduper "deluxe" version?

It's a deluxe version. It contains all of the DLC characters, balls, trick packs, or whatever else they put out. All of the DLC roughly totals to around $40.

Horrid? How so?

I thought it was pretty good. Granted, it'll take you a play through on the demo to get familiar with the new controls, but they all match what's going on considerably better than the DS3. I enjoy it much more with Move.

What exactly did you find "horrid" about it?
