Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

edit: I'm uploading to youtube now. Fingers crossed it doesn't get "failed" (I'd kill if that happens - have been working on this non stop for the last 3 days). Should take 2 or 3 hrs. Edit: Probably more...

Not much, but maybe the most specific comment on Move's performance in at least one territory.

http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2010/10/05/sony-playstation-holiday-preview.html

Levitan also said demand for the Move, the motion-controlling wand launched in September, has been brisk with about 80 per cent of Canadian stock sold out. The most popular release for the add-on so far, he said, has proven to be EyePet, a game that allows players to care for and tend to animals.

Sort of surprised eyepet was more popular there than SC.

Jim said:
I'd assume most people buy the starter bundle that includes SC, so that wouldn't be counted as a separate release.

Ah, makes sense. I'm still in a euro state of mind, where SC was sold separately.

My MAG 2.0 video is up (still processing HD version)

Awesome job TTP that was 5/5!!!!

"getting owned again, and again and again..." haha

That pointer not jittering around is how MOVE should be implemented in all FPS. That makes it so much better. I loved how it played with the MOVE controller and in the end you were owning every one else pretty well :lol. The only concern I have is that it would take a lot of tuning to get to control like perfect as yours. And most ppl might give up before that. But I hope all devs provide that fine tuning to MOVE controls as Zipper has done here. Bravo Zipper!

This video now wants me to go buy MAG...damn you TTP :D

Great great video, TTP... I was just starting to mess with my settings when things started going crazy... I lost control of the move in the middle of a match. I tried recalibrating a few times, and replugging the camera, and it would start to work for a second then drift away.

I quit out of the game and went to the camera settings, but video wouldn't come up. It would make an attempt, but then just a [ ? ]. Reset the main power and tried even... I guess my PSEye is dead... hopefully not my usb ports. Unless you guys have another idea? It's not a new one, had it for years.

So lame though, you verbalized excellently the uniquely satisfying feeling you get from showering bullets over someone with move. I'm addicted and suddenly I've been cut off. Guess I'll try to pick up a used PSEye tomorrow.

And... then there's this other dilemma. I was really disappointed that I couldn't play mag, then realized, oh yeah, dualshock. But... even though I really wanna level up... I really don't want to play with the DS. I don't think it's just because I've only played with move and don't want to taint the experience, but moreso because playing with DS suddenly seems really boring. so i came here to ramble.

Great work as always TTP!

My eyes and ears sorta glazed over during all the area and sensitivity talk, but still terrific post :D

Now if I can just find the perfect MAG Move setting parameters somewhere.......

Where did you play it ?

Toronto PlayStation Fall/Winter Preview event.

It's very much like Wii Sports Tennis, as it's on rails (with the racket being the only player controlled object on screen), but the control you have over the direction of the ball is so much greater.

3D worked really well too. Something I can't say for every game.

That's incredibly disappointing, as Grand Slam Tennis's nunchuck/remote control system was fantastic when you got the hang of it. Felt like you had total control.

I hope they add that function as an option.

Those MAG videos give me hope of decent implementation as after playing RE5 I'm really unimpressed. But I also blame RE5's archaic control scheme as I also own SC and KNOW the Move can work better than this.

Plus it will just take some getting use to.

[I'm actually using a qwerty keyboard now, so I'll be a bit more in-depth]

The set up running was of one Move controller, and all gameplay controls were gesture based (I'll get into that a bit later).

I have never played GST so I can't tell you on how they compare, and I should clarify how the on rails works. It's very much like the light gun shooters (such as The Shoot, or Time Crisis, both of which I played, although TC seemed to be the demo everyone has) in that it's a first person on rails game with your arm and racket being what appears on screen (depending on position of the controller, they do disappear). In terms of overall control of the racket, you can easily pick which corner you'd like to hit the ball into, and determine the way it travels, etc. The only time the game breaks from this first person perspective is durring the player's serves, which go third person. A simple tap or two to bounce the balls (rather than pressing a button), before a swing will launch the tennis ball flying the opposite direction. It may have just been me, but there appeared to be an intentional delay between the input of the swing (tracking had been more or less perfect prior, so I assume it's intentional), and when the game displayed it. Oddly, it was noticable when I played the game, but when watching others it felt completely nature and as if it was all in one action, so it may have just been me.

The SEGA rep there wasn't allowed to talk about any multiplayer details (local or online), saying that they'll announce these things in the future. It did go over my head to ask about Nav Controller support for any free roam modes (although in 3D I'd imagine that would be insane) or if there is a separate mode in the game for people who want a more traditional style VT.

Edit- I'm not a tennis pro, but I've played the sport before, and swinging the Move felt like swinging the real deal. The rumble, and shape of the controller aids in that.

Should also mention that the game looks pretty nice. The models do look a bit off in screen shots, but in motion, at least in 3D, they look good. I was Federer, and the CP was Roddick I believe.

So awesome. Did you get a date of release?

I'm still excited, but I was hoping somehow they could add a freeroam so you could at least somewhat control the direction the run, or at least give that feel. TT did this perfect as you have to lean backwards or run forward to hit the ball.

Where can I get this?!

One pull of the trigger kills everything on the screen :lol

I stopped by the Austin Fry's today to check out the Move, only to find out that they had completely sold out of their stock of Move controllers. Plenty of Nav controllers, plenty of Move/Eye/SC bundles, plenty of charging stations, plenty of games.

It seems that Sony underestimated the relative volume of Move controllers that would be required.

I've got the Eye already, so I'm not going to drop down for the the bundle, though it would only be a $10 surcharge over the cost of a single Move controller and Sports Champions stand-alone.. hm.

More likely that the store did the underestimating.

Ah, maybe so.

I'm actually a bit concerned about the Move.. I have a two year old daughter, and I think after one look at the glowing ball and her parents swinging the thing around she's going to want to grab hold of it and play with it no matter the obstacles we try to put in her way. :lol

Virtua Tennis from GamesCom Video BELOW, their is another video circulating somewhere inwhich the dev stated you can take a step up to move into the net and step back to receive long shots. As for now left and right is on rails and they are thinking about adding movement via navi because their is no room in a living room to really get involved without breaking something. Without further ado

Got two move controllers but don't know what games to get, tried the tumble demo which was pretty neat. Sportz Champeinz demo was pretty good, the ping pong made my arm sore.

Get Sports Champions

So I got MAG in the mail today and was playing online using the Move. Naturally, since I'm brand new at this, I was getting my ass-kicked royally, but the controls are fairly responsive and it's easier to aim at enemies with the move. However, it not near as easy to react and turn properly.

That said, I really didn't do that much better with a standard controller. Getting used to FPS controls on the move will probably take some time. It could just be how tight inbound box is. I'm getting used to the controls very fast as I've played FPS's on the Wii before.

I've been playing MAG with the Move most of the day now. I found some really good settings from another site, and now it's perfect!! The aiming is so much steadier than any FPS game on the Wii. I can fix my sights on an enemy and keep them there!

I tried going back to two sticks for awhile, but I think Move is superior for FPS's now. I hope they incorporate this into Killzone 2 like they are 3.

Great Vid. I'm loving MAG 2.0 with move but it's a real pity that scopes are basically useless. It's impossible to track a moving target with them. I'm suprised that they can get 'from the hip' and iron sights perfect but have scopes useless. Hopefully it's something they'll patch in the future.

I sent on the vid to some mates to sell them on move and MAG. Zipper should send you a check in the post TTP :D

That sucks, what's the problem with the scopes?

I know it's been asked a million times but I just want to be sure: When I sit down there is around 4 feet from my outstretched arm to the tv, but when I stand there is MUCH less. It's under 3ft for sure.

How strict is the distance away from the screen? Do I need to stand to play Sports Champions?

I want to buy Move today but the distance issue is holding me back. Looks like it'll be the reason why I don't Kinect.

You'll probably want more room than 3ft unfortunatly. Even with wide angle the camera isnt going to be zoomed out far enough to capture the area that a person is in.

You will need to stand, games like ping pong sometimes require you to take a step back or forward for shots when the difficulty gets harder
