Playstation Move Thread: It Only Does Everything

I actually LOVE Extraction. Sad you don't like it.
Ok a small update - I finished Extraction over this weekend.
I'm happy to say Roll-decalibration issues disappeared - I've tried with both moves I have and both worked great.
The only notable difference from the last time when I had issues was calibration process - the last time I only turned the Move on after starting the game with DS3, this time I started directly with Move, which leads me to suspect it's a bug somewhere in the game-init code (the game has a fair share of other glitches completely unrelated to controls, so this wouldn't be a surprise).

But yea - I played 9 chapters in a row with no issues or having to recalibrate the controller (including all the violent shaking you do in-game as well as using alternate fire often - as TTP noted, you can get a little bit of drift if you perform multiple rolls in succession, but even that was quite minor now).
Liked the game quite a bit, it's a very nice translation of DS visual style to lower end hw, and it actually proves that Asteroid-shooting minigame can be a lot of fun instead of pure frustration, as long as the controller is right.

At this point I'd be actually willing to pay extra for Move support in DS2, EA should really consider it, they have the damn PC controls already.

Anyway, I don't think disabling the magnet sensor did they trick. It has to be a coincidence or something not necessarily related to the magnetometer itself. In my experiments switching between two different Moves I've noticed that whenever I switch, I get the drift. Then, turning off and back on the drifting Move fixes it. I managed to reproduce this 5 or 6 times but then, all of a sudden, right when I was about to shout "EUREKA!" and post on GAF, both controllers were behaving fine upon switching so I'm not sure what to get from this. :/

OK I was still noticing a little drift after I turned off the magnet so I tried turning the Move on and off and that seemed to fix it even more. Like Fafalada I noticed problems after having the dualshock on first (I was watching a movie) and then using the Move. Still playing the game and I'm still not totally liking it, though I really like the characters in the game. Gonna finish it so I can play Severed.

Yeah, it's definitely something related to how and when Move and PS3 connect. I usually turn my PS3 with the Move and go straight to game from there. I guess we are dealing with some sort of firmware or game-specific or SDK bug. It looks like a software issue anyway, not an hardware one (the sensors work).

Glad you liked Extraction. It's a surprisingly good game. Well, not that surprising considering it was originally a "big" release for the Wii, but, yeah, it's nice to have those cool Wii games ported over the PS3.

So I finally plunked down for my first Move controller today. Charging it for what seems like 2-3 hours so far, and the red light is still blinking.

How long's it take to fully charge the darn thing the first time?!

I think the only time I have used my Dualshock 3 in the last 5 months was in the KillZone 3 demo & that Lab Rat game demo as a Nav controller as I used the Move , & the few times I played the new Pac Man & Tetris games

Move has become my PS3 controller since September

favorite game is The Fight: Lights Out & I don't think anything comes close to it when it come to 1:1 controls

it's still kinda mind blowing how much control you have in Disc Golf almost like your hands are really in the game I played the Disc Golf challenge round for like 3 or 4 hours 1 night in amazement when I 1st got the game lol

I took mine's right out the box & started playing when I 1st got it until the charge went out because it was already half charged. ( I only did that because it was already charged & I don't think you have to do the full charge thing when it's pre charged) but I wouldn't stop charging it if I was you since you already started changing it

That disc golf video is pretty nuts man. I was STRUGGLING to get the 5K trophy for the challenge game, you simply dominated it, lol. Maybe I need to play it more, hahaha.

Feronca - Thanks for the pointer, I'll look into that!

1 guy that posted under the video said he scored 38,640 I haven't really been playing the challenge mode since I made this video & this is from when I 1st got the game so I don't know if I can get close to that score.

Love me Wii bowling and Kinect bowling. I'm planning on buying a Move once the Socom 4 bundle is released and just realized that Sports Champions does not include bowling. Any recommendations on a bowling title for the PS3 using the Move?

High Velocity Bowling video by TTP

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgpRrKlf3Cs

I never did get around to making a video of this game maybe because I knew I would look crazy doing the bowling motions same reason I didn't make any videos of me playing Kinect Adventures & Dance Central lol

by the way this game isn't built from the ground up for Move controls so it's not on the same level as some of the Move games when it come to controls but it's still a good game & it's even good with just the PS3 controller.

I never played that other Blowing game that use move so I couldn't tell you about it.

Well... The one thing to note is that High Velocity Bowling (last I checked) only uses the ROTATION ANGLE of the MOVE controller not the angular SWING VELOCITY.

The Brunswick Pro bowling game actually uses angular swing and not TILT but I think it doesn't have the aesthetics and "fun' of High Velocity Bowling.

Depends what you want.

Thanks, guys. Just looking for something to unwind with after work so I'll be mostly playing by myself. Both High Velocity and Brunswick look pretty good, though High Velocity seems to have better presentation. I'll read up a little more on both and see which one has a little more depth, especially for the single player.

I've been having an issue lately with KZ3. Sometimes when I do the gesture moves like reload or melee, the controller spazzes out (usually constant spinning in one direction) so I have to recalibrate. This I can put up with but the problem is after I recalibrate it's wayyyy more sensitive than it was the first time and I have to dial all the settings right down to get it even vaguely playable. When I come back to play the next time everything is super sluggish because it was put down the first time gahh. Anyone else experienced anything like this?

Takes about 4 hours to charge it for me.

Sure its still charging? I thought mine was charging and taking forever because I hooked it up to a random usb to my computer to charge. So I finally got tired of waiting for the blinking to stop so I hooked it up to my ps3 and blinking stopped. I think its sort of like the DS3 when you turn it on without your playstation being on and it just blinks and blinks.

It's really a shame that DS2 doesn't support move. It would have greatly enhanced the experience for me, and probably encouraged me to replay both DS2 and Extraction for difficulty and achievements. But alas, my copy will go off into the used market while the resale value is high.

Hey guys, I've just published an interview with Anton Mikhailov on iWaggle3D.

You can read it via the dedicated thread gaffer Man created for the occasion.

:)

Awesome, checking it out now.

Hey TTP, ever consider doing a "review" of Kung Fu Live? I'm on the fence about buying it during the current PSN Sale for $10, but I haven't seen much feedback and your videos are quite helpful.

Granted, it's note Move-specific, but it is Eye-centric. Any thoughts on doing a video of it?

Don't think I'll ever menage to make one, sorry.

But from my experience I'd buy that when it's super cheap cos there are chances it won't work perfectly unless you live in a filming stage with an even background and soft lights coming from all directions...

It actually works ok even in the average conditions (picks up your motions fine) but your on-screen replica looks like shit.

It's also a very tiresome game and needs lot of space.

Yeah pretty much nailed all the points about kung fu live.

Oh and read the interview. Good overall. Love the site.

What's a shame is that Visceral ignores everyone who asks about it.

But those new expensive fucking Turtle Beach piece of shit over priced headsets? Yea they'll talk your fucking head about that.

Still blown away that they're creating a new audio profile for these shitty headphones, mean while they refuse to even say "No, there is no move support planned". Why the fuck is it so hard to say no? Fucking tools, worst community management ever.

Haha fair enough, thanks for letting me know. I guess I'll risk it. I'm about to move into an apartment with a rather large living room. That means it's a fresh slate on which to build my "set" for Move detection. (Lighting, background, etc.)

Looking forward to The Fight Lights Out when I get into that room, haha...

you don't really need that much space if you learn how to move by using leans & gestures I only have 5 feet of space from side to side in my bed room where I'm playing in 2 of the 3 videos I posted above & I only have a light coming from above. (23 watt fluorescent bulb)

Nice videos. Helpful.

Hilarious watching you pose for the comics though haha. I also like your The Fight Lights Out vids, btw. Convinced me to pick the game up after seeing one of your "see, it really IS 1:1" type videos, haha...

Shame too. It's the best "fitness game" I've ever played. Cause it's not even really a fitness game. It's just a kickass game that happens to track your calories for you.

Also, onQ123, out of curiosity, have you tried throwing any 'weapons' (like the Kinect box, towel, etc.) while playing Kung Fu Live?

I understand how the technology works, in general, but I'm wondering if it's smart enough (/dumb enough?) to continue tracking an object after you throw it. (if there's enough room for it to be in camera range)

Obviously that'd be limited by the field of view of the camera, too, but I'm only curious. I'll be trying it out on my own at some point in the future, if no one knows for sure, lol.

I don't see why it shouldn't as long as it's within camera frame. It tracks anything that isn't background basically.

I think 1 of the devs said it would work but seeing that I'm playing in my house I haven't tried that lol maybe I'll try it with a teddy bear.

That's exactly what I was thinking. But I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone attempt it yet which is why I started to doubt it. Assuming the camera's field of view contains the object, and it is not confused with the background. (which it shouldn't be if it was a part of you and is constantly moving)

So anyway, if anyone still plays it and wants to test that one out, I'm curious. Otherwise I'll get around to it sometime after I move and have more space for it.

I was thinking something like a roll of paper towels (with a rubber band keeping it from unraveling. But yea, teddy bear seems safe too, haha.

If you're not sure how well Kung Fu Live will work in your home's conditions, just try the demo in the (PAL?) PS Store. But take your time and fool around with the custom settings.

Anybody with any suggestions on Shooter games with good Move Implementation?

I know about KZ3, for which I'm waiting on a price drop.
I'm playing the Modern Combat: domination Demo as a way to get my fix...its alright I guess.

Does it have to be a regular FPS? If not you should definitely check Dead Space Extraction. Excellent game.

FPS is preferred but I'm not a fan of horror games (I.e Dead Space), but the move controls in the demo for Extraction were top notch.
