Came about this interview on N4G and thought this would be the best thread to share it. Everyone's favorite Sony man Anton Mikhailov talks about EyeToy and Move a bunch. Some of the information may be new to people.

Found his answers to be pretty insightful and revealing.

Original Source

Great interview, although as hirokazu pointed out, the YouTube video they linked to in question 2 doesn't appear to have anything to do with Move or EyeToy.

Also, in his answer to question 7, he says, "We began work on Move before the Wii was announced." I'd love to hear an expanded explanation of what this means, if he's referring to technological research or something resembling the final product.

Obviously, the EyeToy (which led to the PlayStation Eye, which is considered part of the Move package) was released on the market in 2003, and I remember some tech demos they did not long afterward (maybe 2004) which used the EyeToy and some physical props. The answer to question 2 touches on this. They've clearly done research in this field for several years.

However, I have a hard time believing that the physical design of the Move motion controller as we know it today wasn't at least a little bit influenced by the design of the Wii Remote. There are differences, of course, but there are also obvious similarities. The only people who would know for sure are those in the R&D group that worked on Move. It would be interesting to get a glimpse of the design process, to see what earlier concepts and prototypes looked like.

What's the deal with Infamous 2 not supporting move? 3rd Person shooters are probably the best fit for pointer controls and they passed?!
I loved Infamous 1 and will get infamous 2 anyway but it would have been so much more fun with pointer controls. They haven't mentioned anything about a post release patch by any chance have they?

It's probably because inFamous isn't strictly a "third person shooter" game. Move might have been neat for certain spots, but I don't know if it would work for every aspect of the game. I'm sure Sucker Punch looked into this, but it's probably best that they don't try to shoehorn Move into every game just to use it as a bullet-point feature. I'd rather they not support Move at all, than to have a lousy, slapdash implementation and besmirch the Move brand.

i hope that Naughty Dog don't pass on move with UC3, that would be a travesty! They're still on the fence, right?

From what I recall reading in interviews with Naughty Dog, they've considered it, but ultimately decided that it wasn't suitable to be included in Uncharted 3.

or maybe just maybe they was making a 1 handed controller the best way they can & it really doesn't look much like the wiimote besides the fact that it is a 1 handed controller?

Well, on one hand
(get it?)
I can come to grips
(man, I'm on a roll here!)
with the notion that they are developing it the best way they can, by using a sensible and ergonomic design. On the other hand, if you've got the Move controller and Wii Remote side-by-side, there are some striking similarities. Detach the sphere from the Move controller, and the two devices are very close in size and primary button placement (Move/T on the Move controller, A/B on the Wii remote).

I've got no problem with companies "borrowing" time-tested designs and adapting them--if you go the other way, the Wii Classic Controller is a lot like a Dual Shock, and the Classic Controller Pro is even closer (in a good way). I'm just not entirely sure that whatever motion controller prototype they had in the labs in 2005 (before the public Revolution/Wii controller announcement) was so similar in design to what we've got today. FWIW, we've had one-handed controllers for years, but the Move is much closer to a Wii Remote than it is to either of the Ascii Grip designs.

they really don't look alike they are just controllers made to be held in 1 hand & need a design that wont fly out of your hand when you swing them around

Wait, does that mean that's an "official" racquet waggle accessory? :0 :/

Also, that box would scare me into not touching it. I didn't even notice the Move and the racquet until 10 seconds later.

The Move boxart within the PS3 boxart is the worst.

Still no impressions on move with Virtua Tennis ? Can't wait to read some, that's by far my most expected move title. Really hope they'll be on par with sports champion ... Even if I doubt it.

Yuck, why would they bundle in one of those tacky controller extensions. If you squint it's almost like you're looking at some chinese knock-off or something.

oh shit it's the Sorny GameStation and Moovve bundle

I love that I was given Gamestop giftcards, head to gamestop hoping to buy a SharpShooter and find out they have been sold out for over a month.

How did a piece of plastic become so popular? Or did Sony only produce 10?

I guess the Augmented Reality War is on now.

& NGP will use the fact that there is no card needed to show off on the 3DS

This is more likely. I doubt that they were in high demand.

Eyepet 2 Friends? He's no friend of mine.....they are just being mean now......that could've been 8days/Getway. :(

most of the people that would have bought 8Days / Getaway already bought a PS3 for Uncharted / GTA 4 & games like that

EyePet can sell PS3's to girls & smaller kids which widens the PS3's market.

I know, just being selfish here.....I like games that push the graphics limit..and want as much as possible...and I think those two games from those talented devs would've provided that...

I personally thought one EyePet would've been enough...it probably didn't cost them that much to make the sequel, so its no surprise.

I still want 8 Days & Getaway

but I think Sony is looking at things from a marketing standpoint

Eyepet wasn't a move game the 1st time around, but this time it will be a move game that use 2 Move controllers & shouldn't cost them too much to make.

so all they have to do is make a new PS3 bundle with EyePet & friends around Christmas time & they can sell it to parents looking for something new to buy kids for Christmas

that's more PS3's & Moves sold from a Game that the groundwork was pretty much already done before Move was released & now being updated to Showcase the PlayStation Move.

Sony's Move.me database used to create gesture-enabled mouse driver (video)

Unless you're into weird promotional mascots, video games, or measuring the rotation of the earth, the PlayStation Move probably hasn't caught your eye. Here's an idea: what if you could wave it about to control your PC? Earlier this week, electronics hobbyist Jacob Pennock used the Move.me C library to build a gesture-controlled mouse driver, and we've got the project's tech demo after the break. Watch as Pennock launches Facebook by drawing an "F," starts a video with a jaunty "V," and closes a few items with a quick "X" motion over the offending windows. Control motions are loaded through the creator's own gesture recognition library, called hyperglyph, which he claims can record motions with 98 percent accuracy. As Move.me is currently a closed beta, Pennock is keeping the source code under wraps, but he hopes to eventually put the driver to use controlling a gesture-based Linux media center. Pretty neat, but not quite enough to stave off our Kinect hack envy.

Yessss !

Virtua Tennis 4 demo up on the European PS Store.
Finally I'll be able to see how are the controls, since it's impossible to find any impressions on it.
That's if the demo is move-activated of course ....
This and 3D .... Can't wait !

So I just got my tax money and was thinking about getting a Move setup, but is there anything really worth playing on it now? I'm kinda interested in Sports Champion and Dead Space Extraction, but is there anything else out now/coming in the future?

I use mine mainly for killzone 3. Its the most fun I've had with motion controls over an extended period of time. I also have sports champions and dead space and they are both good fun as well.

I saw on N4G that the devs of Sports Champions are hiring.

Sports Champion is still the killer app for the move. Far outclasses any other motion gaming experience I've had so far.

They really need to add a boxing and tennis simulation in the next one. With online.

Start Learning With the Pooyoos on 4th May

Learning with the Pooyoos is heading to the European PlayStation Store on 4th May with PlayStation Move support from day one. The series has already enjoyed moderate success on Wii, with three episodes of Learning with the PooYoos on WiiWare already available, which will be bundled into one collection for sale on PlayStation Store.
At the moment there's no confirmed release pricing for the game but we'll keep you posted on PlayStation Move's first educational game for the little ones.

I picked this up today. Having a ton of fun. Why did no one tell me waggle was so entertaining?

I picked up sports champions and RE5 Gold, I've got Dead Space 2 (extraction is move enabled, I believe?) and Heavy Rain in my collection to play around with also.

>_< can't blame us if you didn't pay attention !

Why isn't TTP's new vid getting more attention? Holy crap that looks amazing and how all move shooters should control. The speed of it looks comparable to even KB/M.

Also, is this something Zipper can just change in a patch to get these controls without needing a Sharpshooter?
