Playstation Portal Unboxing

Yeah, this is stupid and worrisome. Why send them out if they aren't allowed to be turned on. I'm betting the battery must be shit.

Shit Demi, we're already know that the battery is pretty much shit in this one but... can you actually imagine if the portal only lasts about two to three hours ? lolololol , it's gonna be fun times in here 🤣

I mean, they did it with the DS edge, a 200+ Eurodollar joypad, thing is, with that at least you can game tethered to the PS5 via cable, this one though ? Yeah...

I mean you can just plug it in while you use it. That's really no different than tethering it to a PS5 via cable.

Don't get angry with me 🥺.

With Sony yes 😆.
Angry at what exactly?

This is a Remote Device, at that it's probably excellent based on their Cloud Tech which is best in business alongside Nvidia.

If you want a dedicated handheld:

As for me? I'll buy Both.

Well... Let's be friends 🙂🤝..

Another one (if not fake), but strangely shows TV on at same time as Portal, maybe it can be used as a controller? (Or rather, leave the TV on so you can play on TV with it, don't care either way to be honest as I have 3 controllers anyway)

From what I've seen so far it actually seem like a surprisingly good product for what it is. I've heard some pretty convincing arguments from people that are interested (mostly about being able to play while someone else in the family is using the TV etc) so as long as there is no noticeable delay and/or streaming quality issues I can actually see this make a bigger splash than I initially anticipated.

That's just how remote play works.
I thought the PS5 didn't send the gameplay to the TV when using remote play? PS4 didn't if I remember correctly (or just had a message that remote play was in use? It was ages ago I used Remote Play)

Nah, my wife also stalks me sometimes when she's in the living room and I'm remoteplaying the PS5 in the bedroom.

It does send it, it also does it on PS4. I used it yesterday with a PS4 and vita lol

OK....

So... Where is the magic of Playstation portal ? 😐

So if the controller gets a drift problem you pretty much need to throw the thing away... oof

One of the the things stopping me from buying one. I'm waiting for a proper tear-down to see what's actually inside.
It uses the PSVR2 Sense controller's sticks, tho. I don't think I've heard about any drift issues in those ones.

I would hope that you could play the catalog with PS plus at least via streaming with an Internet connection... But I don't like that you need to have the console on... This loses its fun.

Or that it was a real console.

That would be amazing, but you probably shouldn't expect that. Especially when Sony has made it clear what it is.

I tried remote play on my PC yesterday and couldn't believe at how bad of an experience it was. Despite both my PS5 and PC being hardwired on my network the resolution looked below 720p and there was very noticeable input lag in Like a Dragon Gaiden. Unless Sony has some serious improvements planned I don't see how the portal will possibly be a worthwile device.

I don't know how people have such vastly different experiences? I used my Vita to remote play Destiny 1 in 2014 away from home, at work, and it worked just fine.

Even I had poor experience with Remote Play at my home using an android tablet on my home wifi connection. So I am very cautious about the PlayStation Portal device

I think people are missing the point on the basic convenience of picking this thing up and playing it. Rather than, pulling a laptop out and running remote play from there, or attaching a backbone to a phone etc (which I don't want as I don't want my phone out of action while playing games). I want a dedicated device to pick up and play away from my console. Sure, cloud streaming should be an option but I'll mostly be using this at home anyway. I don't get why some people can't comprehend the use case.
I want this to play in my bed, but I'd much rather use remote play on my wall mounted TV in the bedroom and use one of my actual controllers. The good thing about this is you obviously don't need a TV and can play it anywhere with a good wifi connection. But can't justify price right now when 90% use case would be in my bed. I still want one though.

The Vita died because as you said, no support, especially from 3rd parties. Why make the same mistake and release a new vita clone? With the Portal, you have your entire PS5 catalog at your disposal. You just need someone to insert the disc for you if you're away from home.
^It was probably Sony's master plan all along, releasing this to slowly convert every owner over to digital only lol

If for any reason you still have your old PS4, you can hook it up to your bedroom tv and stream your PS5 on it, youll have to play using a dualshock 4 however.

Works surprisingly well.

The oled steam deck makes me want to cancel my pre-order.......but the bigger screen and 1080p support keeps on board to at least try it.......

I've got two PS5s so going to connect it to the one I use the least which is my bedroom on the fourth floor. The one 3 floors below gets used quite often as it's the better TV plus PSVR2 hooked up to it.
