If it's really an in-battle thing, that sucks for Mawile. Seems really hard to use in battle, first you have to find the opportunity to activate and maybe it only lasts a while so you have to plan around it and then you have to maximize its potential and then you have to come up with a moveset that is good for both forms etc etc etc

This whole mega stuff in general could be really cool for battling in general but useless for single player

I don't know how to feel about this. The designs aren't bad (I think new Lucario looks like butt, though... however I never liked Lucario to begin with), but gameplay wise I'm not seeing how this would work out.

Now, I have never played Pokemon competitively unless you count back in Blue when my friends would get together and link cable battle... however, if select Pokemon can do this while others can't, doesn't this effectively render them useless? Additionally, if that's true, it also seems half-assed; why shouldn't all the Pokemon have a mega form?

Not liking this for the time being, but I'll wait until we know more to really say anything more...

Well yeah but that would be really worst case scenario. Zen Mode as far as I remember is not a viable strategy and it would really be a waste of designs. Most of the pokes that got the Mega evos don't have the defenses to pull that up.

Well, it's pretty damn good for Mawile at least. Now it has an attack stat almost as high as Life Orb Deoxys A (590 vs 655), as well as an immunity to Dragons. It's still slow as shit though, so it will have to rely on Sucker Punch and forcing switches, which will make it pretty predictable.

It will essentially be a Steel Azumarill, which has been pretty good before gaining a Dragon immunity itself.

Is it within reason to assume that FabAmpharos' locks are strands of wool? I'm loving the "Mega" evolutions. I'm hoping that given the transformation occurs in-battle, that the duration lasts for as long as the relevant item is held. Much like Giratina and its "Origin Forme".

Pokejungle says that Coro Coro will be revealing more "Mega" evolutions next issue. I'd love to see under-used final/single stage Pokemon benefit from these "evolutions" more so than the most popular. Especially since they allow for type changes.

It depends. Some Pokemon are pretty much made on the item they carry, so a Mega Evolution could be a downgrade for them.

Why couldn't they just give Mawile and Absol normal evolutions? A special item for form changes make sense for Pokemon that already have an evolution chain and legendary Pokemon, not so much for random Pokemon that have no pre-evolutions.
