Pokemon X and Y SPOILER Discussion Thread

For those who have finished the story, or are at least past the Lumiose gym: does this game ever hit a difficulty ramp? I'm steamrolling using a Chespin almost exclusively.

In general no, except for Wulfric because of his second pokemon
Cryogonal
that can legitimately be a bit of a pain considering he has a
hail + confusion with the RNG set to "fuck you" strategy
.
Lysandre's final fight is also something to watch out for, as is Siebald. The difficulty as a whole stays the same until victory road where it does get a little harder.

So, the only available legendaries in this game are the 3 new legendaries in Kalos, Metwo and the 3 legendary birds? Is that correct?

I feel like the story had some good ideas here and there, but it was hampered by the fact most of it was not properly expanded upon. The second half of the game, especially, just fell back to the old standby of fight bad guys and win gym badges. If Gamefreak had taken the chance to change up the formula like B/W the game would have been better for it.

That said the Looker missions are some of the best things in the game. I want to play a game where you go around and solve crimes as part of the International Pokemon Police.

How do you unlock the Looker missions? I've already beat the Elite 4 and know that I'm supposed to get a Holo Caster transmission in the Rogue Plaza. Is there something else I'm missing?

I couldn't tell ya to be sure, though I never really keep track - I just use up my power every time it recharges on random passerby until it levels.

I think the meter recharges faster the more steps you take that day (on the 3DS).
Does that mean you can game it by shaking your 3DS? I just want to power through them if possible, I'll give it a shot when I get home from work.

That's always the case. They release a second guide later on with the dex and post game content at a later date.
Although usually, the first guide still has a small Pokédex at the back. Completely removing that is messed up. There's not even a list of all the Kalos Pokémon. (From what I've heard at least. I canceled my preorder when the reviews started coming in)

They finally give Mawile a chance in the spotlight and you cancel your pre-order?!

Edit: Of the guide, I see. Reading comprehension is hard.

Ah okay. Would it be impossible for someone to find it in the games database somehow?
Not going to happen. People can dump the ROM now but data mining is not possible, and probably won't be for some time.

I know I have to encounter Moltres about ~ten times before I can catch him at Sea Spirit's Den.

My question is, does it matter WHERE I encounter him? Is it really random or do I have to visit different areas/routes to trigger his encounter? Because I'm currently completing my Central Kalos Pokedex and have been in encounters with random Pokemon in the same area for +30 times now and Moltres never appeared again. I've encountered him three times total so far and I'm pretty sure it was always a different area. If it's really completely random, it will easily be +40-50 hours before I'll have the chance to catch him at this pace.

You should get the PokeRadar and then use it to track the bird's position. PokeRadar can be obtained from the PokeLab in Lumiose.

I figured it out: You have to open his PokeDex entry. The world map will open and show his current "habitat".. This way you can chase him around. I feel dumb now.

Lol Mewtwo was a push over to catch. No capture powers or anything.
First turn: Thunder wave.
Second Turn: Quick ball
Third Turn: around and go to the Pokécenter because the jobs done.

My biggest issue in the plot is that they have you fight Lysandre too many times in quick succession. I mean, at they very least you never should have had to fight him at the entrance to the base. I just feel like it really, really cut him down as a villain.

Oh my god. Chasing the legendary bird is the worst. He changes position randomly. Every time you use the Fly ability, he also changes his position. You have to use repels, head straight for his current position and hope he's still there. Most of the time he has just changed his position again. Prepare to do this ten times. Fun!

(I hate this shit :( )

Yeah, I felt the same way. It kinda reminded of how in Black and White how you fight N like twice then Ghetesis(sp?) right after. Completely ruined him as a villain for me.

I just randomly run into him, I don't track him. Most of the times I've seen him were on that long route outside the day care while I was running back and forth trying to hatch eggs.

It took me four hours of straight chasing before finally catching him. Worst thing in the game by far.

If it's like in the older games all you have to do is going back and forth between two zones until it appears in one of these.

Does anyone have exact times for the Anistar city Pokemon Center TM giving hex girl? I think that's where most of my missing TMs are, so it'd be nice to know when I need to visit there.

Have you guys talked about Defog yet?

In Gen 6, Defog removes entry hazards on both sides of the field. It can't be blocked either.

What this means: Pokemon who are weak to Stealth Rock have a much better chance at succeeding now.

I know gamefreak doesn't give a rats ass about 6v6 singles, but I can't help but be happy at this awesome change. I'm seriously grinning like an idiot right now.

go go charizard, volcarona, insert stealth rock weak pokemon HERE.

Not yet but I think this is a pretty big change to the metagame.

Here is the learnlist for it as of Gen 5. Some pretty interesting Pokémon learn it. I'd say Skarmory and maybe Togekiss being the big users of Defog as they're both pretty bulky.

It's also good for Togekiss because it can block SR.

BUT I DON'T WANT TO BREED ANYMORE THO

So, how do I get past that fucking punk in the hotel ruins? They just tellin me I ain't cool enough or something to proceed in the dungeon.

Re: Legendary Birds

Transfers are up in a couple weeks. My advice would be to ignore them and just transfer your multitude of old ones/wait for someone to trade you.

huh, isn't PKMN bank pretty much coming in the very last week of the year? lol

You need to learn all four of the skating tricks. One of which I believe is taught by an NPC in the Lost Motel.

True story: I spent an hour and a half chasing Zapdos around hell's half-acre, finally get the fucker into Sea Spirit's Cave... and accidentally kill it with a Flamethrower burn.

Last save was two hours previous.

Do I have to beat the E4 to bring it back? If so, do I have to chase it down again?

First time hunting roamers eh?

some tips:
-Fly will make the bird go to a random spot. You can use this to your advantage by flying to the same town over and over and flanking it when it comes closer.
-seems encountering roamers changed a bit. There may be a time limit before it changes, or going through a route gate can potentially change it OR looking for it in the dex could change it. I couldnt get a read on it, buts definitely different to me than in previous games so dont get discouraged.
-I found the best place to go is center of Luminose. you have access to 4 (or 5?) routes pretty quickly.
-make sure you have repels, and a pokemon in the 50s range in front. no matter the route, you'll be able to force the bird out. ( some routes are higher leveled but you should be ok for the most part)

With a bit of time, luck and patience, you too can own a harbinger of destruction and pet its tummy.

so now that bith editions are out, are there any difference? thanks
I just finished a play through of X today.

Literally no differences at all other than the legendary you catch and the exclusive version Pokémon and mega stones. Only reason I went through it was to get mega stones I didn't already own, so it was worth it I guess.

That sounds pretty gamechanging. Defog also removes reflect/light screen, and also resets evasion.

Also can't be blocked, unlike rapid spin.

I could see it being popular on sun teams, although sun has been nerfed a little bit.

Going back over the list, I could have swore that Sigilyph learned it via breeding.

So guys. The list of Mega Pokémon we have now is definitive, right? No more stones to find?

Because I'll be right pissed if someone discovers an X exclusive stone and I send my rental back before its found. :V

I thought the story was slightly different between versions?
I thought it was too, but nope. Exactly the same.

I still can't believe they've done this -_-
Well, I do have to hand it to Game Freak - they finally made truly version exclusive Pokémon. Only tradable at the expense of you losing that mega stone forever unless you play both and find both stones.

Team Flare's attitude is a bit different from what I've read. They're fascists in X, ultra eco terrorists in Y.
Not very different, but moreso than DP. Black and White's storylines were actually very similar, it's some of the other things that were different. The only ones that had different storylines at all to my knowledge were RS.

Never played any pokemon at all but looking to getting this new 1. SO your saying you have both? and the only difference are the stones and legendary? do you need to have both legendary and stones?
