Portal updated mysteriously, internet detectives assemble-read OP 1st if you have ?'s

Are you playing the game? Each radio is clearly visible/audible in the early levels. Hell you're staring at the first one when the game starts up.

Grr, that's weird. I was thinking maybe I didn't update, but the achievement is there. I'm really not seeing any of these radios anywhere.

The Borealis. Filled with Aperture Science tech, vanished from this reality taking a chunk of its dock with it.

Now its SOS can be heard in radio transmissions. Its coming back.

Gives me some awesome Event Horizon vibes.

Oh wow. So i'm going to throw it out there and say the events of portal happen on board the ship since the portal technology was developed on there. It vanished due to a noob going a bit overboard.

God damn this seems awesome. I really need to get into the HL world / story more.

The code isn't legible on the page, but the rest of the images contain what I'm assuming is the correct sequence.

It seems like (680)-821-2847, maybe.

It's really hard to tell, though. There are more numbers than there should be and some seemed illegible.

called that, it doesn't do anything

That doesn't make any sense since you escape and see the surface at the end of Portal, right?

I would be too lazy to decode the morse code and not knowledgable enough to do all the sound-to-image stuff, but good job to everyone doing it, and kudos to those at Valve for thinking up this stuff. O_O I may have to play Portal again as well...

I haven't even played Episode 2 yet and that ship kind of makes me want to.

lol love this shit. I'll never manage to do it, but just sitting here and waiting for the smart people to figure it out is fun.

I'm not seeing the radios either, but I have a feeling it's because I've deleted the game since I beat it, and so I have to beat it again for them to show up.

No! You're one of the good ones. I gave up after trying to bring it along on a dune buggy ride.

We need to figure out what the HL2: Episode 2 update was. There are no patch notes for it, they might be cruel bastards and won't give us even a hint of what we're supposed to look for.

Btw, to get the first transmission unlocked carry the radio into the second room.

Imagine you are Gordon Freeman just getting inside of the freighter. The door locks behind you.

I just thought about the end where you see some sort of surface. What if that was the exit portal of it all? You exit the ship and end up back in the real world or something like that? :lol

Oh.

Okay, then.
I'm guessing that the letter "C" (which appears a couple times) corresponds to the number two, as you would see on a phone's keypad.

Try (680)-282-2128
Or
(368)-2822-1283

I might have more if those don't work.

I just learned today that this is the formula for magnetic flux. Clearly Valve has ties with the physics department at my university.

man I could NOT get that one, I got tired of screwing with it and moved on. all I can think is you've got to put a portal on some piece of ceiling near where the sound starts and hope you randomly fall through the correct bit of air

I'm pretty sure it's a facility. When you blow up GlaDos and escapes you can see rubbles next to you. Meaning you were in a facility on ground. It would be a weird ship to be able to contains the ''Cake is a lie fire pit'' in it's infrastructure.

Where the hell is the radio in the chamber that first tells you "speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out?"

I can hear it faintly but can't see it anywhere.

Or the events taking place in Portal are from the docked ship, somewhere in Freeman's present? Once it returned from its slip-space?

At the end of portal we zoom through the facility and it is waaaaaaay too large to be a ship. It'd have to be over 1000 feet tall to accommodate how deep that basement is where we see the cake.

I got so lucky on that one. It's on the back of one of the steel pipes, I happened to accidentally get back there and suddenly there it was

The signal is up in the air. Shoot the blue portal onto the ceiling or at the top of one of the walls and jump through the portal with the radio. I got it at the top of the inner wall at that corner.

The world Chel emerges into, with bold blue sky, clouds, untarnished signs of human capitalism (a clean "Aperture Science" sign and an entry gate), and most importantly... birds singing (!) is a far far cry from the HL2-era.

The entire exit-sequence at the end of Portal is a massive portal/rift of some sort, which seems to deposit Chell and various bits of metal junk into this pre-apocalypse world.

Theory - The events of Portal take place on the Borealis, which is trapped in some sort of alternate plane of existence. Chell's success somehow caused her to be ejected back to pre-Combine Earth (where the ship originally came from, and she was originally abducted from as a test subject before the ship vanished).

The ship is still trapped though. Does any of this idea contradict established canon?

Or maybe there is ''another GlaDos on the ship''. For all we know it could be a backup. Heck maybe they tried the backup GlaDoS of the one of the ship into the facility in portal. Heck she still killed everyone. Maybe that's why the ship got lost. GlaDos killed everyone and someone shot the ship through another dimension to prevent her from reaching land. In Portal they tried to use the backup data from the ship to continue the experiment.

The events of Portal taking place on the Borealis seems like a bit of a silly idea to me. I much prefer the idea that it was a similar place to Black Mesa, and was simply occuring before Half-Life 1.

If they try and tie it in too much with Episode 3 it could get a bit convoluted.
