Possible Kojima Productions Reveal in Three Days?

in terms of gameplay, MGS4 > MGS2 > MGS3 > MGS1

However factoring plot in, MGS2 > MGS1 >>> MGS3 >>>>> MGS4

I played the entire series for the first time last month and agree with your gameplay list. 4 is the best, 2 is quick and fluid, 3 is technically better than 2 but it's a bit too slowpaced with all the menu flipping for camo/food. MGS1 sucks, I hate that game.

Plotwise though it's by far MGS3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>anything else

3 was a masterpiece. 1 is..ok..2 is ridiculous and 4 has the burden of cleaning up 2's mess.

MGS3 gameplay is MGS2's slick gameplay bogged down with menus. MGS2 wins.
Despite all the menus, Mgs3 gains the major advantage of being more open and having more variety. The boss battles in mgs3 are leagues ahead of the battles in mgs2.
Mgs3 also offers levels that are more varied, fun and organic .
MGS2's levels are all sterile.

what was the best boss battle in MGS2 anyway?

Olga was ok
Vamp was ok
Fortune wasn't even a battle
the
Rays
were a gundam game or something anime as far as I was concerned

The Doc Octapus guy was a sort of bad ninja gaiden

the mad bomber guy I guess was pretty good

the harrier jet was ok

am I missing one?
the boss battle music was so lame

You kidding me? This was off the HOOK. Fatman on rollerskates was also amazing. And the music was pretty great, very MGS like.

MGS2's bosses were really lackluster after MGS1, but I like that there weren't that many. Even though I love 3, there's a bit too many boss battles and the last fight is really dragged out. Still the best MGS2 boss fight is probably Solidus.

MGS4 is a great evolution of the franchise. If you've only played through once, give it another run and try to take in the atmosphere, maybe help out the Malitia. I'm on my 5th or 6th playthrough and I'm still finding new things. Also call Otacon and
Rose
a lot.

MGS1 deserves more love.

It's an utter masterpiece, and hell, I don't even mind the controls as much as some here! :lol

But anyway, more talk about the reveal... yes?

I think the most plausible thing is it to be Big Boss, and Grey Fox (he must be related to Raiden somehow).

Same here, havent played it for a few months but picked it up again today for what is probably the 8th time, and found a new little tidbit on the first level that I've never seen before.

=S

Move this MGSx vs MGSx debate into an apporpriate thread. I came in this thread expecting more news, and all I see is pages of bitching about why MGSx is better than MGSx or why MGSx sucks.

either way, the games are very different from each other. I'm glad they aren't the same old thing rehashed over and over again. It's nice to get new different aspects on the same genre. I'm sure MGS5 will offer up something new as well as a remixing of the previous games

No, MGS3 is MGS2 gameplay actually opened up so that first person aiming his useful. Enclosed spaces was not the best for that. The open areas alone make the gameplay in MGS3 far better than MGS2, factor in camo and CQC and all the crap you can do with radios and animals and I think its clear that MGS3 offered so much more. Not to mention way better boss fights.

you win this thread

Honestly, there are those who heavily favour MGS3 and those who heavily favour MGS2 but some of the rhetoric thats spewed in these arguments are ridiculous. If you need to call people names because they don't like the game you like you have problems.

Seeing that some are doing rankings, I have not changed my mind, MGS4 is my favorite one. Yeah the story is a freaking mess, but I have always played the MGS series for the gameplay, every game I have played many many times over and I almost always skip all the cutscenes.

MGS4s gameplay is MGS3s gameplay perfected. The game itself had elements of all MGS games rolled up into one. The entire game was basically one giant love letter to the entire series.

MGS3 to me still had the best story and the best boss fights, it might as well be tied with MGS4 with me, I love them both very much.

My order is MGS4>MGS3>MGS1>MGS2>MG2>MG:GB>MG1 (never played Portable Ops)

So I must've completely missed the discussion/speculation about this: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3174400

I probably missed anything that was said while wading through the the gobs of this that is the mgs4 hate in this thread.

"The way he has his [censored] on is a bit different," Kojima commented

It's his hat.

For me, the rankings go: MGS4 > MGS2 > MGS1 >>> MGS3 (the only game where I truly felt let down)

I like Kojima's crazy stories and I've always found the themes he raised in MGS2 and 4 to be extremely interesting, so MGS3 being very light on plot (and thematically cliched) was disappointing to me. And as Solo said, while the additions to the gameplay were very cool in concept, they were too bogged down in menus. The camo system was handled far better in MGS4. I think I might have liked the gameplay in MGS3 more if I actually got to the fight The End. I accidentally killed him early on in the game. :lol

Well, you can pretty much say "Patriots" instead of Zero, and the point would remain. I mean... Zero the founder of the Patriots? After all the mystery from MGS2 regarding the Wisemen Committee, the Patriots end up being just a bunch of secondary, forgettable characters from MGS3? Really, Kojima? Really? :(

What mystery? We found out in MGS2 that the Wisemen Committee was a hoax and that they had been dead for about 100 years, and it's MGS3 that reveals that the wisemen were actually the original founders of the Philosophers. Their "mystery" was solved by the time MGS4 came out.

I call fake because it makes no sense. This guy is an unknown, gets hired to compose at least one track for the next MG, and decides to post the song on the net before the game is even announced?

Anyone know is the script has changed? Wouldn't the curret countdown end 6-1 not 5-30? Also isn't Konami's Press event June 3rd?

yeah I brought this up amidst the big boss/raiden hysteria and I don't think anyone saw it. I wonder if there will still be one more countdown (the one with the Raiden pic) that ends during Sony's or Konami's E3 conference.

My guess is precisely this: Big Boss is no longer in Foxhound, it's his mercenary days before getting the idea of creating Outer Heaven, and for some reason he's with some French people and started this Militaires Sans Frontières group. He will return to Foxhound later.

But that Raiden dude can't be Gray Fox. Fox is supposed to be older than Solid Snake (heck, he's already 16 or so in MPO), and he was certainly in his 40s in MG2.

But whatever.

"By the way, I know I told you earlier that I wouldn't do [censored]. You asked me if I was working on Metal Gear, and I replied 'Well, I'm not doing [censored].' Besides, [censored] is already a [censored], too. When I told my son that I was finished with Metal Gear Solid, he said 'If you do [censored] again, that'd be hilarious. Anything but that!'"

I think here he means that he won't work on a sequel to MGS, it's already being made anyway, but he's not on that. But he is working on the prequel:p

this thread is a mess.

anyhow.

http://www.onelastcontinue.com/7599/new-metal-gear-news-in-next-weeks-famitsu-ps3/

As we all know, Kojima Productions is counting down to a reveal of a new title; the countdown timer ends in roughly nine hours, but rumor has it another will soon take its place. Has Japan’s 7-11 spoiled the announcement for everyone? Count this under rumor for the time being, but one clever poster on NeoGAF has uncovered something quite interesting.

On 7Andy, the Japanese retail arm of 7-Eleven, a listing has been put up for next week’s issue of Famitsu PSP + PS3, set to hit store shelves on May 30th. Listed in the table of contents is what translates, literally, to “New Metal Gear”. Could Kojima’s next project be a Playstation game? He’s already developed multiple PSP games, and the engine that powers Metal Gear Solid 4 was certainly not cheap to produce; it would make sense for Kojima’s next game to appear on either system. With the countdown timer ticking away and no hints appearing as of yet, it seems the best thing gamers can do is to wait and see how this all turns out; after all, E3 starts in less than two weeks, and this supposed issue of Famitsu lands in Japan two days before the show. Rest assured, if anything comes of this strange rumor, we’ll be right on top of it.

seems like a sony console bound title. ... Famitsu PSP + PS3.....

Looks nothing like Otacon. And Otacon's a nerd, I can't even picture the guy holding a gun.
It could pass as Otacon easily aged about 5-10 years. But look at his hair. The way it doves is quite similar.

And this is another thing

WinFonda said:
But seriously. Kojima loves to change peoples perception of his characters. Changing Otacon from a whiny nerd to a hardened outlaw mercenary sounds exactly like something he would do.

Just from the interview alone you can tell Kojima is hinting at the character(s) not being who you think they are.

He's just not confirming who they are because it would tell us outright what the game is. It's Big Boss for sure. The ninja I don't know.

Seriously. I remember being amazed when the "Snake" in MGS3 turned out NOT to be a young Big Boss, and "Old Snake" turned out to be a completely different character than Solid Snake. Kojima, you can't trust him about anything!!!
