Prebuilt PC suggestions

I just buy an Alienware every 5 or so years, sometimes it needs a GPU upgrade halfway through. This i the one I have now

Pretty happy with it. I used to built my PC but I never enjoyed it.

I was looking at the alienware deals yesterday some. I used to have one that was a steal around the holidays. I've built pretty much every other PC I've bought.
I'm to the point now though where I'd rather pay some extra money and stay somewhat ignorant and save time. ha!

there's probably going to be a 15-20% markup on a prebuilt, this is slightly OT but building your own is really only tricky with the CPU install and thermal paste. most cooling solutions come with the thermal paste pre applied and make it easy (i'm running asus ROG Ryujin II 360 argb and it had thermal paste already on it covered with plastic and it was super easy to install). other than that it's just tedious to get all the wires nice if you even care about that.

So now I'm thinking:

X3D Ryzen
32GB DDR5
2TB SSD system drive
4080 super or 4090
ASUS USB-BT500 bluetooth adapter for psvr2 adapter

Should I go for 4k? Is this enough? I'll have to get a monitor too. Any reason to go to 64gb memory over 32? I hear it's not really needed for gaming.

I have a Dell laptop from 2021 that can play everything at 100fps 4K using DLSS. I don't even know how one would decide what to get these days. It seems like anything on the market would be acceptable.

PS: don't let anyone convince you to build your own to save a few dollars. I did it for 20 years and would never bother again. It's too annoying.

PPS: Black Friday will bring awesome deals.

If u decide to go 4k go 4090 ofc, for 1440p u dont have to fork up as much gpu wise(either 4070ti super, 4080 or 4080super will last u till end of current console gen, all 3 got 16gigs of vram) simply coz its like this:
1080p+78%=1440p, and 4k is 1080p+300% of pixels
and yup 32gigs of fast ram is plenty, at least for now and next few years.

Unless you want to do something like Zbrush, or 3DStudio Max or the new Doom Eternal Modding program you won't need 64 gb, 32 gb is enough.

Great set up and like others said 32 is more than enough currently

If you want to game at 4k and don't want to upgrade for awhile I would really shoot for the 4090 if you can afford it

Monitor wise if you don't want to spend a lot the Gigabyte M32U 32" can be had for around $500 at times and is a decent display for that price

If you have cash left over, consider going 4K OLED for the display.
Either a monitor or LG TV (Not much difference).
You can get so much out of it, things like CRT shaders for old games and emulation look incredible. I've got a beast PC and spend most of the time playing SNES, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2 on it lol. PLAYSTATION 3 emulation is also in an incredible place at the moment.

$3,000 for top of the line.

Dont settle for anything lower than 4090. 4080 or 4080 Supers are vastly underpowered in comparison.

4070 is trash.

This is under $3000.
Agreed to this ( not sure about the link but everything else he said )

the lowest card you should aim for is 4070ti super because it has the 16 gigs of sweet memory which is what you should be aiming for. nothing less.

so find a desktop you like with 4070ti super and 7800x 3d processor. everything else is not really super important.

I have a 1440p monitor, however the RTX4080S has exceeded my expectations so much that I started gaming at 4K (DLDSR downscaling looks much more detailed compared to 1440p native TAA). I've played "guardiands of the galaxy" lately and even with RT I had well over 60fps at 4K. With DLSSQ I saw 100-140fps. In most demanding RT / PT games like Alan Wake 2 I have to make some compromises (DLSS upscaling and FG on), but these DLSS features work so well that I don't feel like I'm really missing anything.

Based on 25 games tested, here are the average fps at 4K native (without DLSS).

The RTX4090 is faster though, so if you are rich the faster card will make a difference at 4K for sure. Just keep in mind that a few months from now the RTX5080 will offer the same performance as the RTX4090 for half the price, and you'll get improved 12V 2x6 power connector (like in the RTX 40 SUPER series), so the risk of burning your house down to the ground should be much smaller :D.

BTW- The RTX4080S is thick like a brick and requires good ventilation (and the RTX4090 even more so), so you need also to buy equally big PC case with good ventilation. My Shadow Base FX800 has 3 massive fans on the front and one on the back, and even on a very hot day my RTX 4080S stays cool and quiet.

You should wait a bit if you can.

9800x3D is coming and so are Intel's new chips. Both should be out soonish.

And of course Nvidia 5000 series is coming, probably early next year.

One reason to go for 64GB memory kit now is that 4 X DIMM memory support is still kind of shit and you won't get good speed out of them even if they are all the same.

So if you go for 2x32GB or 2x24GB , you won't have to replace the whole thing later if you need it.

Gigabyte is very sketchy in their RMA. I would highly recommend either buying a brand with a good RMA process (Dell, LG), purchasing from a place that you can return easily (Costco), or buying extended warranty that covers during manufacturer warranty.

I got an Alienware PC on sale at Best Buy years ago and it still holds up. All I did lately was upgrade the video card to an RTX 4070.

One weird thing I do get once in a while is a blue screen on boot up, but, if I restart, the PC boots up totally fine.

So, it has some kind of weird false alarm going on.

I have also added a whole bunch of hard drives to it.

Btw, if you have a Microcenter near you, you can buy the parts and they will build and test the PC for you. Hell, you can even have them do custom cooling (build gets more expensive of course).

Well I decided to just get it over with and to do overkill. I realized while I was there that my gaming pc that died was 9 years old. So this is basically a decade investment for me. Cause I don't keep upgrading like some.

I decided to go 4k, so 4090 and the rog swift oled 4k.

I had to go intel cause they didn't have any 4090 with the amd. But I saw that intel is putting out a fix and extending the warranty.

It even has 64GB ram although I would have been fine with 32. I was limited with what they had in stock and didn't want to put off my purchase.

Thanks for all the help everyone!!! But yea, I should be good for awhile to say the least.

This is not pre-built related, but a friend wants to build a PC and asked me to help.
What's the name of the thread with the PC builds recommendations? Is it not maintained anymore?

Hey dude. Can you hold out until January for 50 series, I'd do that!

Apart from that. Specs look awesome.

Oh I've scrolled and seen you've bought.

That pc is a monster!

Unfortunately I couldn't wait cause it was completely dead. If my old pc still worked I would have waited.

That's an awesome build and you will have lots of fun with it.

Just need to invest into a small nuclear reactor to power the thing! 😉

I was a little worried about that. I think my man cave is about at the max power to begin with. I'm in a 1987 built house without a ton of outlets.

I did already have one issue I had to solve. I thought the first one I got was dead, only went to bios, wouldn't boot into windows. Thought the boot volume was damaged or nonexistent. So I got it swapped out for the same build.

Then the second had the same issue, so I did further troubleshooting. Turned out it was my keyboard making it fail to boot. I'd have to unplug the keyboard for it to boot and then plug it back in. I updated the BIOS and that fixed it.
