I never realized there we so many Confederate statues and monuments in the US south.
The south lost, and people understand that right? They have memorials and statues promoting losers and their losing cause.

More of these need to come down, but it's going to get ugly before it gets better. The United Right groups will stake out such places, I can just feel it. Gotta protect their heritage and other BS

Fuck all of these monuments, I hope this starts a trend of just ripping them all down, forcibly if necessary. Clearly the racists/white supremacists/republicans are in no hurry to take down these symbols of hate so the only real option is to destroy them outside of the law. No rest until they're all destroyed or they start to pull them down in fear of them being destroyed. I honestly don't even think they belong in museums unless they are legitimately from that time period and not just symbols of racism meant to intimidate blacks decades or even longer after the civil war had ended.

Motherfuckers on GAF 1950s would be in the "Rosa Park refuses to give up bus seat to White man in Alabama" thread saying "But there needs to be consequences for her actions."

I'll leave you with a quote:

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr said:
I hope you are able to see the distinction I am trying to point out. In no sense do I advocate evading or defying the law, as would the rabid segregationist. That would lead to anarchy. One who breaks an unjust law must do so openly, lovingly, and with a willingness to accept the penalty. I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law.

It won't be two armies this time. It will be militias and terrorist actions all over the country. Bombings and shootings. 1 in 50 don't have to die for the US to have its second civil war.

Or it could be the LA riots all over again but not localized to just one city.

You don't need a civil war for the country to go south in a hurry.

They should just have been destroyed after the war, honestly.

Too many concessions were made to the south back then.

Most of them didn't exist in the immediate aftermath of the war. They were erected decades later. The statue in the OP was erected in 1924. Another reason the "historical artifacts belong in museums" line doesn't make any sense. These aren't pieces of the confederacy, they are the response of the racist descendants of the racist losers.

I agree that these symbols should have been removed long ago. But even if justified, I just can't feel comfortable watching imagery of a mob tearing down and kicking a statue. Even if I understand why they do it, something doesn't feel right.
It was the same when I saw the Iraqis doing it to Saddam's statue. Something just makes me not want to look.

Many of them were erected during Jim Crow and the civil rights era. They aren't just "confederate history " they're a direct reaction to civil rights legislation and a proclamation of racist intent.

They lost but didn't really lose.

I'll leave you with a quote:

Ok, so I thought there was a picture of a "Martin Luther King Jr." Yu-Gi-Oh! card that says white people can play it to derail conversations about entirely-passive responses to atrocities, but allI can find are ones of Pokèmon cards with no point except Martin Luther King is in the art box.

I say all this because you're playing that card. That may have been an approach one man took to protest. You're demanding heroes get charged for actually acting. Those defenders of Justice probably will be going to jail soon. And it'll be yet another sad moment in this nation's rapidly deteriorating history.

I'm of the opinion that these statues should be moved to museums and framed as modern day preservations of a racist, bigoted past.

However, destroying them is fine too.
