Prototype -- what to expect?

Yikes. That video was kinda bad. I mean, the game play looks potentially entertaining, but the city couldn't be anymore generic and bland. Why the hell are there so many taxis on the street in that one section?
That's actually what some parts of Manhattan look like... See http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/m/x/mxk5088/cab_qjpreviewth.jpg , http://www.opentravelinfo.com/north_america/u_s_a/new_york/new_york_cabs , http://www.touchnote.com/photo/card-design/New+York+Cabs .

What? I for one thought the plot to both of these games was engrossing. How could you overlook the little girl who lost her balloon? What about the army's plan to destroy the Hulk? Just because it had Ultimate Destruction in the title and let you wear FUCKING CARS AS BOXING GLOVES doesn't mean I didn't shed a tear at the end.

Remember when Mysterio made the "All Your Base" joke in Spider-Man 2? I shed a tear, too.

Ok, i moved a little forward into the game.

The action is quite entertaining, it is really hectic at some points and the powers are cool.
Still, the A.I. is really dumb, and you kind of feel like you are playing with a game that came out one or two years ago.

And they kept that annoying thing where you immediately start jumping as soon as you fall into the water. I hate this thing.

I'm surprised at the lack of impressions. Hasn't this game leaked quite extensively already? Hell, the PS3 version is already available here since two or three days ago. I just don't want to pick it up until I'm more certain of its quality.

I originally thought in picking this game up, but coming after inFAMOUS has definitely lowered its pre-launch hype and, of course, my desire to play it. We'll see after the reviews/impressions are all out.

Another Hulk leftover? I guess you can't fault a studio for wanting to use its most successful tools, but it is starting to look more like a redo with a new character than a serious evolution of the formula.

was hoping this would be a surprise hit, guess that's not happening. Crackdown is still king of "sandbox with superpowers" games.

Sounds no different than Infamous except the hectic part.

Yes I just picked up Infamous for cheap. Playing through the first island now. Holy shit it's repetitive! My friend insists I keep at it. I also keep trying to climb on chain link fences to my dismay of not being to climb on them. So annoying.

I'll get lost in that city. Everything looks similar and generic.

Radical Entertainment took over 20,000 pictures of New York to capture the feel of the City.

I'm shocked you think this. Shocked.

Well they seem to have evolved their formula. More powers, you can take disguise to infiltrate.
But yes, their tools are starting to show their age...

No, it's quite different from inFamous. Well they're the same kind of game, but inFamous is more "contained" and has much more polish (from the time i've played). Prototype is much more all over the place.

I debating getting this, last couple weeks have been lacking could use a new game. $20 Toys'r'us card is very tempting with Ghostbusters the following week. Do they get games launch day yet?

It looks like a city assembled from photographs. Flat.

All the bloom lighting in the world can't disguise this aging engine.

I'm sure it is. New York in Prototype, on the other hand, does look bland. Flat, muddy and dusty.

I agree that the look of the buildings is Flat but the City design is not close to bland.

Wow you think AI in infamous is Dumb. Damn you must be real good.

I have been looking for too long for prototype to let it go away due to early impression. I still have hope

when prototype made it's... re-emergence, i predicted it would release close to inFamous, nobody would buy inFamous, and everyone would be all about Prototype. Prototype would get some ehh reviews in the 7.5 8 range and inFamous would be close behind, but way behind in sales.

seems like everyone loves inFamous now and Prototype might be the one in danger of being hidden in it's shadow. i've never been a GTA fan, so naturally most open-world 3D action games require a LOT of unique mechanics and ideas for me to shake off the GTA feeling, but i was surprised last week with the demo, and im really hoping Prototype ends up being the other side of the coin and releases a demo also.

if it can differenciate itself enough and be the balls-to-the-wall mayhem carnage disco nazi surprise party that the latest videos have demonstrated then im extremely interested in owning them both.

It still looks like a lot of fun to me, but it definitely looks very rough for a game that's been in development for this long. The city looks very dull and cut-and-paste, and the character animation is really jerky and stiff in a lot of cases.

Even the sound seems lacking; at 2:14 in the video posted on the previous page he's tossing entire cars down the street, but there's no sound for the cars impacting the ground at all. It makes it feel like there's no weight to those vehicles at all.

Still - I'm interested. Those complaints won't matter as much if the controls, combat and missions are well done.

As much as I adore Crackdown, I've got to say that because of the controls and platforming and overall polish, inFamous took that crown for me.

Love the feeling of motion of the game. Contrasts with Infamous quite a lot in that sense, because Infamous has a completely different pace, much slower while Prototype is all about creating momentum during battle.

Awesome game.

Also, what is the status with the co-op with this game? Even as a 7.5 game full online co-op could be very fun much like Crackdown.

The framerate on the 360 version is smooth. Yes the graphics are mediocre but there is a lot of mayhem going on

There is no co-op or online modes

I will kill you messenger.

I heard they took it out a long time ago and I thought semi-recently said they implemented it again. Looks like I may just wait for Ghostbusters.

640p on the 360? I fear for the PS3 version :(

some ( few ) games run at higher resolution on the PS3 like Tomb Raider Underworld ( 576p on 360 but 720p on PS3 ) , some run better on PS3 like Wanted Weapon of Fate , some has better framrates on PS3 like Red Faction Guerrilla , some games run exactly the same like like 50 cent .

so Hope for better for both versions and let wait for some decent and neutral comparison videos ( yeah I mean non Eurogamer's )

It's definitely a bad sign when there aren't any impressions at all of that version. :/

saw some guy have it on the pick up thread , so maybe they just playing since then or maybe they are just assholes and don't want to share impressions .

also where the fucking reviews ?

I actually just started reading some other forums from people that supposedly beat it and said main missions take 5-10 hours.. Lame
I demand proof in the form of Gamertags.

Well who plays games on easy anymore. Bah!

I still have a sliver of hope. inFamous was so damn awesome that I could use another open-world superhero fix, and Hulk was so much fun on the Xbox...

As much as I like Crackdown, inFamous stomps it in every way except co-op. Better powers (Crackdown has powers?), better city, better graphics, better story, etc.

Still waiting for reviews and impressions before ordering. They must be hitting soon, right? Also want to know if the PC version is competent.

Wait, wait, wait...

Weeks back everyone was saying "Prototype looks so much better than inFamous."
Now I come in here and read these impressions...

Conversation on this forum is so outstanding.

I doubt inFamous can be topped by Prototype, but I'll probably be buying it. It's just so weird
predictable
how the discussion in this forum goes compared to the other forums I frequent.

I love inFamous but I am still excited for Prototype. Some of the stuff still loos like incredible fun. And since I also need to do all the side mission I doubt I will be done in 6 hours.
