I think what you are referring to is when they accidentally used it in some marketing trailer thingy to show off some of the sharing features for the ps4.Wasn't one of the PS3 Uncharted games on Live from Playstation some months back as well? I seem to recall a thread about it (unrelated to the remaster collection).
It just a driver update, you can't make a Blu-ray drive that don't play CD's, it's in it's spec and Sony just disabled it.Regarding disc support, I thougth that the PS4 doesn't read CDs at all. PS1 games would be on a CD. Or does this only apply to music CDs?

We know that four Star Wars games (Racer Revenge, Jedi Starfighter, Bounty Hunter, and Super Star Wars, first three are PS2 games) are coming to the PS4 with enhanced graphics and trophy support. It looks like they are just the first wave of a larger tsunami.
To the maker of CD? it's Philips and Sony anywayThat's what I thought. But it just means they would have to pay extra fees for each unit they have sold and will sell right?
I will die if Rogue Galaxy is among the PS2 Classics lineup xD
Not much is known about these games beyond added trophy support and "enhanced graphics"Question: Is the Star Wars set that is coming with enhanced graphics and trophy support coming as a "PS4" game or a "PS2" classic.
In theory, if the PS5 is much more powerful than the PS4, but uses a similar architecture, they might be able to retain PS1/2 BC, add PS3 BC, maintain compatibility with the PS4 library, and then have five generations of games playable on one box.if they added ps1 and 2 support i would buy a ps4 in the next week. i can live without 3 for the time being.

I wonder if Sony would consider adding PSP BC. Some PSP games run great on the PS3 with custom firmware, since Sony made an emulator for Minis that you can use to play other games too.
I'll be happy to be able to play games I wasn't able to because I owned an Xbox.Let's be honest guys, if they add PS2 emulation and trophy support, we're going to be raging if they don't have plats, right?
I am totally indifferent to trophies. I just want to play the games.Let's be honest guys, if they add PS2 emulation and trophy support, we're going to be raging if they don't have plats, right?
I wonder if they'll just hand you a Platinum for just beating a game.Let's be honest guys, if they add PS2 emulation and trophy support, we're going to be raging if they don't have plats, right?
On the one hand, that would be a huge instant backlog. On the other hand, there's so much great stuff to discover and enjoy, I'm almost jealous.I'll be happy to be able to play games I wasn't able to because I owned an Xbox.
That was for people who're into them. I can see a cycle of (mild) complains happening.I am totally indifferent to trophies. I just want to play the games.
This all just seems like Sony remastering PS2 games with cleaned up visuals and trophy support. People are going to lose their shit when they find out they'll have to pay $10-$15 bucks to play these PS2 games on PS4.
I'd pay that much for that.

Ah, I think I see where you're coming from now. Still, they'll deserve the backlash if they don't support discs, there won't be any excuse not to.I would too.
But so many people are expecting/hoping for disc enabled BC, I see so many comments like, "I should be able to pop in a PS2 disc and play". Then Sony gets accused of being money hungry and forcing people to pay for games they already own.
I'd love for them to do PS1 and PS2 remasters for PS4, but I'm expecting major backlash.
Same. But I didn't own any games. I never keep physical games.I'd pay that much for that.
While I don't think disc-based BC is likely, I do think digital purchases are likely to carry over. Sony has set a precedent with their classics; PS1 games being playable on PSP/Vita/PS3 with one purchase as well as Sony's huge push with cross-buy that has allowed even PS3 games to be free downloads on the PS4 even if the PS4 port was released much later (Journey, Sound Shapes, Unfinished Swan, etc.). It would really surprise me if PS2 classics purchased on the PS3 wouldn't carry over.I would too.

0% chance they're supporting physical media
Microsoft does, You can use 360-discs on Xbox One.
But I doubt that Sony will do the same with PSX/PS2-games for PS4.
I did some digging on those Star Wars game set to be re-released on PS4. 3 of those 4 were originally PS2 games as we all know. Interestingly, all three have already released on the PSN as PS2 classics. Thing is, they were released only earlier this year, a few months before those Star Wars bundles were announced. Why would EA go through the effort of releasing them and testing them for release on PS3 if they were just gonna completely remaster them on PS4? By the looks of things, they aren't completely remastered, simply emulated to include new features.
What I found more interesting, though, is that 2 of those 3 PS2 games have file sizes below 1 GB. This is very unusual for PS2 classics. Most of them are usually in the 2-4 GB range. Even the games you wouldn't think would take up a lot of data (like Rayman 2: Revolution, for example, its original ISO files are normally in the 1 GB range on a PS2 disc) are somewhere within that threshold. But not these. Some have speculated that the reason why all games are somewhere in that 2-4 GB range is because the emulator program files are included along with the game files, as opposed to having the emulator written into the OS itself (perhaps to avoid memory restraints for the system). After all, the PS2 classic's code has been changed in order to get them to work properly on the PS3. It could be that the reason why those 2 games (Starfighter and Racer Revenge) take up less memory is that they don't include the emulator program or altered code. Maybe Sony has made improvements to their OS emulator, and that's the reason why they're included in that PS4 bundle? Those PS2 classics currently on the store shouldn't work on the PS4, since they're technically "PS3 games". But those Star Wars games are different. Maybe Sony has found a better BC solution for PS4?
This is mostly speculation, and I could be totally wrong. But I thought it was worth sharing.
