Is it true that using PAR can erase your saves? Are slim PS2s compatible with PAR Max?

I used one on the old PS2 and was happy with it for cheat codes. I think there's some other things it can do, but that's all I used it for. One of the nice features is that new codes are downloaded, so you don't have to manually type them in for games.

I haven't used it much. I have it just so I could backup/download PS2 saves.
So even if it DOES erase it, they're still backed up.
