It's noisy as hell in the nice stereo cabinet.
It's a great value.
The Blu-Ray remote works extremely well but is additional cost.
I don't see any reason to get a stand alone player unless you want it silent and you dont play games much. The Samsung BDP1200 fills the non gamers need.

You know I could own you for using my bandwith.
thank you, though I'm not sure if quoting my whole post helps.donkey show said:*taken off*
No hard feelings, yeah?

Tobor said:Wake me up when the actual discs aren't so insanely expensive. I was in Circuit City the other day, and 300 was $13 on DVD, and $29.99 on Blu Ray. $29.99? That's not how you grow a format in my opinion.
nofilter said:You don't know you're born. Blu-rays like Pirates are ÂŁ28 over here ($55).
pswii60 said:Pirates is certainly more expensive over here but actually has an RRP of ÂŁ24.99 (not ÂŁ28), and can be picked up online for ÂŁ17.99.
nofilter said:Aye, I know, but I meant in-store as he was quoting Circuit City. It's probably cheaper still online in the US. The RRP is actually ÂŁ27.99, though.
Either way, it's like 200% more expensive over here. I've ordered 300 online from a US store and it's been 2 weeks already and no-show... Can't win.
Tobor said:What you Brits pay is sort of irrelevant to my point. In America, these new formats are not going to become mainstream with a 50% to 120% markup over DVD. That's niche pricing.
nofilter said:How is it irrelevant? If they're even more expensive here then it's going to be an even smaller niche outside of the US, regardless of the % markup (which, actually, is about the same for us, so that cancels out my arguement).
Tobor said:Sorry, I just thought you were saying I shouldn't complain since you were paying even more.
Miscommunication.
nofilter said:Oh, I kind of was, which doesn't help, sorry. Both points stand - we pay STUPID prices and prices overall are too high.
How's that? =)
hirokazu said:question - since i'll probably be importing a PS3 somewhere down the track:
Some people have mentioned that a good number of Blu-Ray movies released so far have been region free. How can you tell whether a movie is region free or not before buying it? Will it be marked on the packaging, or will the packaging just have a Region B sign when released in Region B countries, even if the disc itself is region free?
Mmmkay said:Yeah the guy said he was too busy to keep track of releases right now, but he may start it up again in the future. The folks at movietyme test all their movies before they list them on the website so it should be just as accurate:

;_; Cheap though, and free delivery. Can't say I've ever had to wait that long, maybe you got caught up in the strikes?nofilter said:The guy at Movietyme is a really nice, helpful chap. Wish they'd use couriers though - it's been 10 days now for my last order.

Do those 4 coloured buttons EVER do anything during Blu-ray playback?
Are they just for special commands that have to be programmed in specific discs or something?
ThirstyFly said:There's a 1-disc DVD and a 2-disc DVD loaded with extras for 300. The Blu-ray and HD DVD versions have the extras of the 2-disc, and are usually priced the same as the 2-disc (a few $ more for the HD DVD). The $13 disc was probably just the 1-disc edition.
I actually ended up getting the BD on Amazon.ca for less than I would have paid for the 2-disc DVD if I bought it retail.

They're cheaper at Best Buy. Just bought Final Fantasy: Spirits Within Blu Ray on the day of release for $24.99 (at the brick and mortar store), and I've seen cheaper than that.Tobor said:All the BluRay discs were $29.99 or higher. Norbit was $29.99. You want to tell me someone wants a second disc of extras for Norbit?
I understand you can get them cheaper online. Not the point. The Brick and Mortar retail prices are not ready for the masses.

Tobor said:This thread has been derailed enough though.
I don't think it matters where or when you bought it. The only difference is how warm the place is where you put the PS3. The fan will go into high speed mode eventually, but it's a difference of there being a 2-3 hours before it does, or a just a few minutes, all depending on how warm the room is.TerryLee81 said:If you live in Europe, try to get one of the silent ones.
