PS3 Downloadable Games Release Thread

kaching

"GAF's biggest wanker"
This is an "official" topic to track/discuss fully downloadable games available for the PS3 via the PS Store. This won't be about downloadable demos for disc-distributed games, like Motorstorm. And it will ignore downloadable PS1 games until such time that they can be run on the PS3.

I'll update this first post to keep it as fresh as possible. Feel free to PM me whenever you think it should be updated.

Taking a lesson from the XBLA Release thread, no point in telling everyone to only post when there's a new release, so look to this first post for (hopefully) the most current info. Don't expect Amir0xian levels of detail here, but at least a list of what's out, what's coming and what might be coming.

And, please, for the love of all that's good in this world, DO NOT turn this into a vs. XBLA/VC brawl!

What's Out - Original Release Date
- Blast Factor - 11/11 (Strategy Thread)
- Cash Guns Chaos - 11/17
- Lemmings - 12/1 (Official Thread)
- Go Sudoku 2 - 12/7
- GT HD - 12/24 (Official Thread)
- Tekken 5 DR - 12/27 (JP Only - 2000yen, Official Thread)
- Gripshift DLX - 1/4/07 (USD $9.99, Official Thread, Official Site)
- Blast Factor MP/Coop Pack - 2/1/07 (USD $2.99)

What's Coming - Expected Date (To make this list, games must be confirmed in development or at least have media shown that suggests as much)
- fl0w - 2/22/07
- Q*Bert - 2/22/07
- Tekken 5 DR (for NA) - 2/26/07
- Go! Puzzle (formerly Swizzleblocks) - February
- Calling All Cars - March
- Super Rub a Dub (for EU?) - 3/23/07
- SOE licenses 6 classic Midway Titles (MKII, Gauntlet II, Joust, Rampage World Tour, Rampart and Championship Sprint) - starting early 2007

What Might Be Coming (Anything that has been rumored or reported in design/talking stages but not officially announced or shown)
- 2 more games by fl0w creators
- 2 games by Factor 5 + possibly old Turrican games
- Neo Geo games from SNK
- 1 game from Insomniac
- Harmonix pursuing digital delivery for next projects, may include support for PS3 (see thread

it was mentioned on (i think) 1up yours that some guys from Insomniac are plugging away on some PSstore downloadable games. The story was something like as Resistance was finishing up, 2 guys had an idea for downloadable game, and because the cost was so low, Ted Price essentially said go for it.

This thread is worthless without pictures:

:O They should do a Captain Quark 2.5d sidescroller like they did in R&C 3.

Quoted for Great Truth.

My son and I would play those vid comics with Captain Quark for hours on end...so much ****ing fun!!

First (low quality) footage of Gripshift running on PS3 is currently the top headline vid at http://control-freaks.tv/ It's part of an interview with Mario Wynands, the exec producer of the game and all-around great poster here at GAF.

I wish my game could get on the download list. It's called "Hoagie Blaster", and involved me eating as many hoagies as possible. Steamin' hot hoagies.

Anywho, hopefully the game and demo release keep coming out batches at a time. I am looking foward to a Genji 2 demo.

Is Lemmings a port of the PSP game? Of the PS2 game? Or is it a brand new game?

Never mind, it's a brand new game, recycles no levels from existing Lemmings games (including Lemmings 2: Tribes), and was developed by Team 17 who did the PSP game.

Great idea, but I'm thinking this thread SHOULD include demos and PS one downloads. I don't know if we need a seperate thread for all three, which is what will end up happening in the future.

More of a "PS Store Downloads Release" thread or something.

Ok, I'm exited.

Too bad I wont be able to buy it with a European credit card :/

EDIT: Agrees with Jim

A Cpt Quark sidescroller would be an awesome downloadable game. I'd buy it for $5.

Like I said, I'll start including the PSone downloads when they can actually be played on the PS3.

I'm personally only interested in tracking how things evolve in terms of purely downloadable games and since I'm the guy committing to trying to keep the first post updated, that's why I set up the thread the way I did. If you want to change the title, and then have people post in here when demos for retail games show up, I'm fine with that. I'm just not going to commit to consolidating that info in the first post as well.

hopefully Gripshift'll receive the commercial success it never got, this time around.

I can't wait for a PSN Katamari and LOCO Roco, both seem idyl for SIXAXIS control.

Yup, why?

Actually thinking about might be a bit weird with the whole 3D thing the SIXAXIS has going, Since I live in Ireland I haven't had the chance to play a PS3 yet

Lots of nice games for the PSN. Sony is definetely stepping it up, who would've thunk it?!

When Oblivion hits PS3 I'll get the console. Im excited for Flow too!!!

People have been saying Loco Roco needs a tilt sensor since well before the game was even released. But since playing it, i honestly can't see how that would remotely work.

I think it would be cool to use the Loco Roco engine in a game that used the tilt sensor, but Loco Roco as-is would simply not work.

Loco sure, but Katamari? Didn't we already go through this in all the Wii threads?

You can add Gripshift to the list - should be here by the years end but the date isn't set in concrete yet.

Edit - looks like I overlooked it :)

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I first heard of the PS Store. A $5 Quark platformer would be the only game I'd ever need. They could even make it episodic!

GT-HD (JP Only) - 12/24

oh well I knew I made that Japanese account for something. I think its wierd that japan now has 2 GT videos for download and we don't have any.

When you want to invite a female to your house to play videogames, PlayStation 3 wonÂ’t sound sexy.

It would be better to call the PS3, Power Revolution 3.

Pick up line:

You - "Hey baby, do you want to go to my house play my Power Revolution 3?"

Chick - "Of course I want to play your Power Revolution 3! Yeaaai!"

:)

Thanks for the compliment.

But unfortunately I can't lay claim to being a designer on GripShift, I'm merely the Executive Producer, which means I don't contribute very much of anything. Andy Satterthwaite is the Producer/Designer for both GripShift PSP and GripShift DLX PS3.

Anyway, there should be some screens of GS DLX out soon. Hopefully within the next week, when we may have a better indication of a date also.

Really? Are they different/new versus what's available online?

I still haven't created a japanese account..

Has anyone tried Lemmings yet? I'd like to know how the game looks/runs. Does it use a similar 2D foreground with 3D background design as we saw on PSP? Does it run at 60 fps (as a scrolling title should)?

Sorry, Mario, I spaced on your role there for a minute. I'll edit, but I'm sure you've been absolutely crucial in the design of getting Gripshift to market ;)

Tekken 5 DR and Neo Geo games, good,,, good

all we need now is Capcom and Sega to toss us their vast library of arcade games and the PS3 will fully be killah to the awesomeness

I am sure someone has put them online somewhere. One is of the new Ferrari 599, the other is like a Nissan walk down memory lane ending in some REALLY sharp CG of nissan concept cars.

he comes clean! SIXAXIS = Wiimote total. Thank you, kind sir. :p
What coming clean... you're the one who proclaimed Katamari seeming "idyl for SIXAXIS control". And actually you're also the one proclaining "SIXAXIS = Wiimote total".

No, thank you, kind sir. :P
