I'm trying a couple of PS1 games, and I am getting weird sound glitches/pops during FMVs.

R4 isn't playing the intro correctly.
Rival Schools 2 isn't playing streaming BGM or the Capcom logo FMV correctly.

HDMI 1080p upscaling to normal/smooth
Audio over optical.

Anyone else having this issue?

I am having this issue with Resident Evil FMV's.. Sound hiccups during the intro sequences. Settings are upscaling full screen/smooth.

F-Sony and their broken streaming. I'm going back to Red Kawa.

I've spent 5 hours going back to last night trying to get streaming to work and so far only Twonky has yielded results (and its not free) WM11 doesn't pick up at all (no firewalls nothing). This is way too much trouble.

I wouldn't blame Sony...... It worked first time for me.

You have to restart the PS3 once it has detected WMP11, and you've accepted the PS3 in WMP.....

Given the flakiness of Twonky, I think I'm gonna sit tight and wait to see if Nullriver comes through with a Connect360 equivalent. Among other things, it's basically certain to be cheaper than the $40 registation fee for Twonky...

I feel bad for all you guys having trouble streaming...I didn't have to do anything at all for my ps3 to find my wmp11 shares...it was just there when I finished the update with a wmp11 icon..all i had to do was go to my computer and choose allow to share to unknown device.

I'm using vista btw.

Still can't get any video's to play however. But they are all xvid or wmv.

So far though, the 360 streaming is better organized.

I'm running Vista as well. The PS3 sees the server and photos and music (only through playlist) work fine but since the majority of my movies files are .avi they do not work. I've tried running TVersity and Transcode 360 and neither of those show up in the server list.

Does this Nero Media Home app, operate the same way as Tversity and transcode or does it function like Vista's media server? Will it run avi, dvix and other files formats? Also is there any way to set up other folders that aren't on the C(system) drive to be shared through one of these media server apps?

EDIT: Nevermind. [CFD] El Capitan's post answered a lot of my questions.

Quick question: I tried downloading the update last night, but couldn't find my USB cable at all and eventually had to turn the console off. When I tried turning it on again, the controller wouldn't connect (probably for obvious reasons), and I didn't get any picture. Am I ****ed, or will it work itself out if I can find that damn cable?

Nero is uff, I must have gone wrong somewhere with it. The nero scout says it has indexed over 6,000 files on my PC, but no music and no photos actually show up on my PS3, and just about 20 or so videos (there are many more). Also, it's not working reliably for me. That divx file that I had working before won't work at the moment, tells me it's a corrupted file.

Twonky seemed by far more reliable then either of the other two I've tried (nero and tversity), but it doesn't have any transcoding :(

Yep. You can even catch the hiccups during R4's BGM in-game, which is one of the only reasons I play it. :)

Shame. I hope this is fixed soon, because it makes it difficult for me to want to get into these games. I have an outboard scaler on my tv anyways, so the issue is a matter of convenience only.

Yeah i got it to play some AVI's this morning. A little slow right now but it played. I'm at work so i cant play with it just yet.

Never heard of this problem, but...
- Have you tried resetting the controller? Use a pencil with a sharp tip on the little hole at the back of the controller.
- Have you tried holding the power button down for a few seconds after turning your ps3 on?

Yes. Nero Media Home is simple to set up and get it working with the PS3. It's works like Tversity. Transcode on the fly so you can play any media files. You can set up any folders on what ever drive you like.

It's to bad Nero Media Home doesn't work with X360. Tried Tversity for PS3 & X360. Could browse the files / folders, but every time I tried to play a video, the freaking server crash. Anyone know of server program that works with both?

I got the folders I added through WMP now, so that works. But Tversity still doesn't work correctly for me, unfortunately. And it's a shame the WMP streaming stuff doesn't support the Album/Artists option Tversity does.

If only I could opt to play the entire folder I added, saves me the time to keep selecting a new folder everytime an album finishes.

Problem isn't the PS3 is detecting it at all.. It says "no media servers found".

I know my way around computer. I've tried everything (even a rollback to previous versions of WM before installing 11).

I'll just live with the fact that I can't stream until 1) Sony makes it easier 2) someone comes up with a free program.

I've had trouble with sound not being heard with SotC.

I just tried SotC this morning and it worked great! Could be some option settings problem?

BTW, here's something that bothers me. This applies to SotC amd GoW 2, probably any progressive scan/widescreen game.

If I turn progressive scan on, my display changes to 480p but the aspect ratio is good, but if I turn it off my display goes to 1080i, but is no longer widescreen. Everything is squished. I don't know if what I'm seeing is the best possible image at 480p but it looks a hell of a lot better than when my display is at 1080i. I haven't had a chance to play around with the settings as i quickly tried this before work.

Am I just being paranoid? Or is there something wrong with my settings?

That sounds like something that could be fixed with the "normal / full screen" option. Try that.

Sounds like you have it set on normal, change it to fullscreen.

Thanks, I am stuck at work as well and i'm really interested in seeing if I can get this to run smoothly. Currently, I still use my Modded xbox as a media center because it's the only one that seems to be worth a damn. I can't wait to get home and give Nero's app a try.

Guys this might help some of you out. It includes detailed instructions.

http://www.gameswank.com/content/view/114/1/

"HERE IS SOME UPDATED INFO:

1 - it does work
2 - you need the latest version of nero for it to work
3 - on wired conex there is no lag (some wireless connections seem to be getting lag)
4 - you have to do the nero cout thing to get it to work

Here is some quick instructions:

Turn your PS3 on and login, and leave it on your XMB

Run a file in Nero Showtime to unblock the firewall that pops up and ALLOW.
Run Nero MediaHome
On the left are a set of Icons.

Heres a quick setup:

SHARED DIRECTORIES > Click ADD SHARE and browse to a single shared directory for now, as it takes time to add the details, so dont go adding gazillions of media files for now.

OPTIONS: I left them at default for now, but they are self explanatory. Automatically start media home when pc is switched on is a good one to tick up, but leave it off for now till you get it going.

NETWORK: Click the box for your ethernet card on your PC. Leave port number and network name at default for now

DEVICES: Click UPnP/1.0 line and click ALLOW ACCESS box

TRANSCODING: Leave on auto detect as it will talk to the ps3 and see what it can and cant play and come up with a solutionafter a few seconds.

TV: Set up your tv card here

STATUS: Click this ICON and you will be able to see whats going on

then click START SERVER at the bottom, and you wait a few moments. Go back to PS3 and it should show the Nero Media Home Icon. Browse as normal for your video files.

At first if you have loads of files in your shared directories it can casue the ps3 playback to come back out to the XMB. Just give Media Home some time to update the directory listings, then it will be silky smooth.

Ive tested this n a decent PC for SD avi files only so far, and they work fine. You might have issues if you have an old pc, as the trancoding can take up resources.

some tips:
Only add one or two files max into a folder, as nero can take a while to index large amounts of files. You can also turn off the server and go to TOOLS - NERO SCOUT - INDEXING - FOLDERS and select the folders you want there. Then go back to the INDEXING tab and click INDEX NOW - this may take a while to do, if you have huge mounts of files, so as before just to get it working. When its done go to SHARED DIRECTORIES ICON in nero media home and select SHARE ALL CONTENT INDEXED BY NERO SCOUT"

Sweeeet. I'm excited about this....makes me want to just go home right now.

Oddly, I just managed to get a 1080p mpeg4 file streaming, although it's very stuttery. I don't think nero is transcoding it though, because its tab still says mpeg4. If the PS3 is playing it natively, I'm not sure why it should be stuttery..unless it's my network, but it's all wired..

edit - a h264 720p wmv streamed with a little bit of stutter, but then cut out before the end with a "access to the media server denied" message. I seem to get those some of the time, but not all of the time. It seems very random. I wish I knew why that was the case..ditto, these videos weren't working before, but are now for no apparent reason, albeit slowly.

So is anyone with XP SP2 getting this to work?

**** Vista.

Yeah, it works with WMP11, but if you added a new personal folder, you need to restart your PS3 to get the files in the folder to show up. Video files don't work for me at all, but they're still incompatible, we need more codec updates in the future. I hope the next update delivers.

This one was awesome though!

**** Vista.

I'm using XP SP2.

Got Nero MediaHome to work following the above. It was stuttering with a 720p mp4 video, but that's probably because I'm using wifi.

Guess that since windows media player doesn't allow mp4 playback, it wouldn't display mp4 files on the ps3.

I'm sure tversity will update with the necessary tweaks to get transcoding runnign on the PS3. Just give them a few days with the new FW.

Transcoding into MPEG2 should be pretty trivial and faster than realtime, so OK for your SD Divxes. Anything HD you should probably make sure is already in the correct format.

Does the PS3 play those 720p x264 files from newsgroups? NEver bothered downloading just in case they didn't work, instead I get the .ts files, but they are bigger.

Winning Eleven 10 looks pretty much the same... But I got rid of the ghosting !!!! Jejeje plus now there is no lag between screen moves and controller input.

If they're encoded to Main Profile 4.1 they'll work, but some groups have started using High Profile 5.1 and those don't.

Okay guys. Last night after I installed the update, I played around with the settings. I seriously need somebody to tell me what the best settings for DVDs and PS2 games are. I tried fooling around with both.

The PS2 scaling and smoothing on DQ8 just made everything blurry and defeated the 16:9 support in the game. I will not be using it for 16:9 native titles.

The DVD upscaling didn't seem to look too hot either. I tried the various methods but it didn't seem to work very well. It could just be a bad test disc. It was late.

The "Full" color range thing looks great.

Using TVerstity, I Was able to stream photos and videos, but all mp3s show as unsupported media. The 360 sees everything using the same service.

On another note: Please help!

I bought the Sony PS3 Bluetooth remote yesterday for Blu-rays and media playback. I go into the accessories section and register the remote. It works great until you turn off the PS3. After turning it off (or playing a PS2 game and coming back to the XMB) the remote no longer works no matter what I do. I have to re-pair the remote with the PS3 to get it to work every time. Obviously that makes it pretty useless. Any ideas what might be going on? Controllers and headset work fine via bluetooth so I'm thinking I've got a bum remote.

What are you using for BD playback now? 720p or 1080i with Advanced Cinema turned on? (which will get 1080p24, right?)

Blu-Ray:
1080i with Advanced Cinema, until this last update since I can now get 1080p24 (it works great). If I play a non-24fps disc (example: Nine Inch Nails Live), I'll temporarily re-enable 1080i on the PS3.

PS3 games:
720p

DVD:
480i over HDMI (Oppo 970) with Advanced Cinema. This provides a single-scaling, no-analog-conversion solution, using the excellent Pioneer scaler, but with the judder reduction benefits of Advanced Cinema.

You guys should try the Photo sharing feature during videochat. Pretty cool. Maybe an indication of things to come (audio and video sharing? Home functionalities built into XMB?)

Holy ****. Just came back home and set the triple to full range hdmi and super white. Wow, I thought I would get crushed blacks, but after testing the TV with the link that andrewfee gave a while back, I'm happy to say my set supports it fully and it has never looked better. You win this round Sony.

Actually, it's mentioned in the official change log!

Downscaled output of Blu-ray Discs is now supported. When 720p is selected for the video output setting of the PS3 system, Blu-ray Discs that were recorded with 1080i/1080p resolution can be played with 720p resolution.

Hey Jim, any info about the PSP update?

I love the phrasing for the Blu Ray 720p. Instead of, "Yeah, our bad, it took us 9 months to support the most popular and common HD standard" it says, "We downgrade L337 1080p signals to 720p for orphans. Are we not merciful?"
