An industry insider who goes by the name Fishie (how very appropriate) says that he got some hands-on time with Playstation 3 games in Japan and wasn’t too happy with what he saw.

From his comments:

PS3 Info Before I Head Out Of Japan Friday Towards Noon, Thats Tokyo time. Have fun waiting a while longer boys. No way that thing is coming out in March. The games just arent there and lots of other isseus I cant delve into right now.

Before you start thinking that Fishie’s post is, um, fishy, he has earned himself a tad more credibility than the typical poster by reporting dead-on facts about the 360 a few weeks before E3. Back then he called the 360 titles underwhelming and said that while there may be some kickass stuff, most people won’t be floored.

So, what does this mean for the PS3? Will it be a rocky starty or a delayed launch, or is Fishie just full of crap?

And, I like how he says "No way is March happening". I think we all know that March isn't happening and never expected it to. June is still spring and while I have no idea if they'll hit it or not, setting a false target that we all know they'll miss doesn't scream objectivity.

Many people thought Sony would never make the PSP launch date in Japan because we had very little on the game. Guess what? They made it and the PSP launch games were good.

And I question his potential as an insider to see PS3/games. Obviously he has had some type of insider info. but just knowing someone from a company/being in the media is not going to allow him to know stuff like this.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with posting there. However, the noise to signal ratio there is so extreme that I don't know why anybody would choose to post there regarding serious information. I can see the point of posting there if you just want to rile up fanboys of a particular color, which seems to be the modus operandi of most folks there.

I don't doubt his access to info on PS3 developments - although he appears on internet annoying as fuck, he seems to be pretty well known and gets to meet some respected people.

The thing is that he hasn't posted anything substantial in contrary to his promises, and all we have at this point is a statement of the obvious, "PS3 won't be out in March", coupled with a failed attempt to create a Fishieton speculation thread on whatever it might be he will reveal.

For some reason I think the PS3 is more likely a fall launch. They would be better off to launch with some awesome games then do a crappy launch just to stay close to MS. I think if they were ready for March we would have seen a lot more stuff in the media they have been too quiet lately.

I don't consider missing a March launch a delay. Its looked like Fall 06 for a long time now, no matter what SONY has been saying. More time to save $$ for more launch games!

I can't believe some people still think it's coming out in March...

Xbox 360's cold reception in Japan has given Sony a green light to delay until Summer or Fall. A delay will also allow them to produce enough units to avoid major shortages.

There's really no practical reason to rush the console at this point.

It's 3-4 months until the supposed launch of PS3 and we have no games for it. That should basically say it's going to be delayed until the Fall. Then Halo 3 can really go against the PS3 launch.

I'm guessing Fall for Japan, same or later for US. I will eat a small confectionery hat if I am wrong. There's still no sign of finished Blu Ray (movies) for a Spring launch.
