PS3 Tard pack = No wifi + No HDMI + No MemoryStick /SD/CompactFlash

What the fuck Sony... The price I could deal with... but this is like they're shooting themselves in the foot over and over and over again. By accident.

I said "wow."
Like most, I'm stunned. I really felt they'd go $400-450 to be competitive...
Technically I could have a Rev, AND a 360 for the price of a PS3.
Apparently, their motion sensor was a wreck I hear... obvious that they added it in a last minute effort to copy Nintendo.
I enjoy Metal Gear Solid, and a few other PS ips, but a PS3, ONE game, plus tax, will cost me $706+. No f'ing way.
I will get my Rev for the Nintendo exclusives, and I will drop some more RAM, and get a half decent vid card for my PC.
I'll probably get a 360 when they have a price drop... which if MS is smart, they'll shave $50-100 off their premium pack at PS3 launch.

I admit that I kinda want Sony to fail this generation. I mean, some of the games on PS3 look amazing, but I'm ready to have Nintendo reclaim its throne. Hell, I'm ready to see Microshaft go to #1 for the first time.

I just want a change.

After today, you're getting one.

You just made the mistake of a lifetime to let your competitors come in and pwn you.

Not yet, but wait until Tendo shows some real games utilizing the Wiimote and MS drops Halo3 & GOW. The next few days are gonna be legendary, our future is before us.

BTW, the PDF only states releasing in Japan in November, is the WW Launch still on?

Thats Sony.

Holy crap, who could have possibly predicted this from Sony of all companies? It looked like they had the gaming industry figured out. I'm almost expecting them to jump out later on and say, "Fooled you!"

Wait .... does this mean no Blu-Ray movie playback on the 'tard pak?

Because I thought movie studios were insiting on HDCP encription or whatever for Blu-Ray, and that's only possibly with a DVI/HDMI output.

I believe a blu ray movie will still play over component, but only in 480i... for it's full resolution you need HDMI.

That is fucking ridiculous. Extra rip off premium for the higher capacity hard drive I can live with but crippling the base unit is completely bollox.

I think I am the only one here not eating crow. Hows it taste everyone? I told you all...but nooooooooooo...wouldnt listen to ol Norse. I told you 2 sus and the cheaper would be gimped in the movie playback dept almost a year ago...I told you al to mark that thread too.

I'll still get a 600 dollar model any way.

almost makes me think a sticky thread saying Norse was right is in order. =)

i kid...i kid.:D

i wanted to believe sony, but im dissapointed.

although last years e3 MS dissapointed too. hopefully tomorrow the wii and 360 will deliver the goods

I'm convinced Peter Moore had hookers slip something into the Sony execs drinks. That's the only logical explanation to this fiasco.

I don'y know if its been mentioned but the lack of rumble probably has to do with Sony's loss over the Immersion suit. MS was smart to settle that quickly and pay fines...I think they even own a part of Immersion now.

1080 playback of BR movies is still possible on the "real" tard pack, but only as long as hollyood allow HD over component.

BTW, from me to every Sony fan that has ever made fun of others...

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

And Jesus Christ NO RUMBLE is gay man. It's feel weird when there's no rumble now. Fuck gyro, i prefer rumble.

QFT. That was a horrible decision. HORRIBLE. Can we use DS2, and have developers support that instead? Just think of how well Kojima uses the rumble pak - and they're taking tools away from him for wii-lite. Bullshit.

So basically you have to buy the $600 package if you want to watch Blu-Ray movies in any resolution above 480i?

No, it'll cap out somewhere below 1080p, but definitely not as low as 480i. (I don't have the HDMI specs handy right now.)

This is the most confusing move I've ever seen. Sony is sabotaging their own platform by nickle and diming the platform to death. They would have been better served just having one version of the platform for $599 considering that the $499 version is just a disaster.

Actually no. Because the machine would be seen as overly expensive and they would just fail more and faster.

You guys also notice that there "seems" to be 2 console designs, a la the Xbox 360? Black or Chrome trim?

Speaking of no rumble, didn't Nintendo already confirm that the Wii controller has rumble functionality? How is Sony claiming, then, that rumble & motion-sensing can't work together?

Just to make this clear, not even games in 1080p over analog... even sets that support 1080p only accept it over HDMI or some other digital connection.

Only if the movies have the ICT tag. Given Microsoft is adding HD-DVD with no HDMI, Sony basically did the same with the PS3 $499 version, no HD-DVD movies have the tag, it might well be something studios have dropped.

I think it's extremely likely this is the case or else Sony just completely killed the whole reason for adding Blu-Ray to the PS3. The huge installed base of Blu-Ray owners.

No wifi also means no interoperability with the psp. If such thing will ever exist.

edit: It will probably still be doable with a wireless bridge or wired to a wireless router. but still...

Sony is doomed, i'm not going to buy a PS3 never and evaaaaar the 60GB version got the SD Memories, and HDMI ?!!?!?! and the 20GB suck
and btw, the sheet describe the real PS3 Spec, 256 RAM and 256 VRAM ? :lol Where is my 360 ?
I love you Peter Moore!!!!

Sony to become 3rd party at E3 07?

Unless they make some changes, it's possible.
But probably E3 08

Because they lost the lawsuit, silly. :)

Does the system even have wired controller ports? I don't recall seeing any.

Sony has just pulled a Nintendo.
Ding Ding Ding. I forsee Nintendo and MS handing Sony their ass in the States and Europe. Japan I dunno. ;)

edit: What's even more funny, is that Sony is riding on the gaming division.

Although it doesn't affect me, Sony just screwed themselves total on this price point. After the Square conference earlier today, Sony could have BURIED MS with a $399 price point - stick a fork in them. Now, they left the door wide open.

No teenager is going to buy a PS3. No parent is going to either. The product is priced for yuppies like me who HAVE to have the newest technology. Sony is going to lose in the US to MS, and possibly the UK. Japanese will pay the money, so Sony will be fine there.

Sony seriously screwed the pooch here - a flop of Nintendo proportions. MS will win E3 unless Nintendo has some serious aces up its sleeve.

Arrrghh. For the love of god. Somebody please bring me up to speed. I couldn't stand the wait and logged off to play DMC3. Was PS3's pricetag announced?

I'm gonna laugh so hard if Sony is second to Microsoft in America and second to Nintendo in the rest of the world. Seriously, the possibility is there now.

500 bucks for people who don't want full res blu ray movies or 1080p games, no memory card slot, and no wifi PSP support.

600 bucks for people who want a PS3.
