PS3 up close - heatvents spotted!

Compared to sonys other product designs, all of the playstations have looked ... uh... stupid :P

Not xbox1 or n64 stupid, but IMHO sony designs some of the best looking electronics short of apple. But like they say, its whats on the inside that counts! In this case MGS4/GT/ect ect... :)

I can live with the console's ugly ass design (hell, I do have an Xbox 360, after all), but what I can't stand is the controller. Who knows, maybe it feels better than it looks.

PS3 still spanks the xbox 360 design. I dont know of any electronic devices that have freaking inward curves and a basic white plastic exterior with green stylings. Not to mention its the only console using tray loading :lol But i guess GAF has a warped sense of what is considered good design and what is closer to convention.

The only benefit of using a slot loading drive is that it will be very easy to operate it even when the console is in vertical position. And there is where the good things stop. I have otherwise have had very bad experience with slot loading drives, the motor that "sucks in" the discs have a tendency to fail after a while, more so than a tray loading disc reader. I rather have a loader that has a less failurate, in this case a tray loader than a slot loader.

lol. sony has always been known for making the best designs in the industry. This isn't even debatable. For the people that lack taste, I suggest gene therapy cause the ps3 is pure sex :D
huh? watchu talkin bout Willis? Nintendo designed their Playstation one model; they copied the design of the PS2 from some old computer [verbatim]; and Gorge Foreman designed their PS3 model. ;)

I still like it. Much better than the PS2, which amazingly I still find ugly after years of getting used to it. Most things manage to fade into the background after that time.

Though I do like it standing up far more than on its side.

All that matters is that I saw that magical word I was looking for, above the vents:

dts.

wait, is that true?
I am very fond of the PlayStation design.

And whats your idea of good design. Xbox 360's toy like design? :lol
what on earth? hmm... what kinda toy's are you playing with? :lol please show me the toy the Xbox 360 looks like, cause I'm scratching my head here. i think you doesn't attention.

That was the best fake, it sits nicely with the PSP. Not quite as thick and lose the UMD slot for an HDD and that would have been perfect.

I don't much care for the silver version, but the black one looks great. The Spiderman font has to go, and they should ditch two of those ethernet ports. I seriously can't think of any reason for those. LANs? I don't know. 90% of people won't use them. Release a peripheral or something.

i thought it could only do DTS on cutscenes and music and voiceovers? i don't think it could actually do gameplay DTS could it?

While I do agree that you could probably stuff that controller up an orifice of your body I would not call the design of the console or the controllers sleek or sexy. I sure hope they change the controller as the poster suggested. This box makes even the 360 look good. Honestly the PS3 looks like Sony designed this in about 1993.
The only good looking next gen machine is the Rev (-the controller, it needs a redisign too) IMO.

The PS3 can act as a network hub/switch. You could connect your other next-gen consoles to the PS3 and then the PS3 to your router. They hardly add expense so there's no compelling reason to take them out.

Arent these old?
Most Definitely.

Also, several EA games have used DTS in-game as well. But then most developers started shifting to just using DPLII instead.

yes my man. I've been saying this ever since the PS3 was shown. The concept pic still looks amazing. It looks expensive and goes well with the PSP design. Maybe a bit thinner and it would have been perfect. Way better than the fridge/grill/vending machine/espresso machine that we got now.

No it doesn't, atleast that's what I remember. That was a rumor (or it could have been it had no routing functions but does in fact act as a dumb hub or switch)

Everything, shpankey. Although I believe it wasn't a full 5.1 channels, I think it was 4.1 (all of EA's DTS games were like that). Minus the front center channel, basically.

Its a hub/switch. Sony briefly considered making it a full-on router and Kutaragi mentioned this in an interview, which is what caused confusion because it was reported as Sony deciding to take out the router functionality, which they never officially decided to put in.

They should just ditch the original Playstation logo. It looks like a tacked-on vending machine decal.

The system is pretty ugly. I'm more concerned about the controller, though. Maybe a Controller S will work using an adapter. That won't be a good solution for games that use the shoulder buttons extensively, though.

what did that entail? was the gameworld itself using DTS or was it just the music, menu's and cutscenes?
all of it.

also answer my previous question relating to Nintendo/ps 1 design.

I believe it was the router functionality that was false. I think Sony is still claiming a Network Switch funtionality with it. Basically put an ethernet cable in for the PS3 and you can pass the ethernet cable on to the other side for another device. Also, I remember reading that one of the ethernet ports is dedicated for the Eyetoy2....i'm not sure if it was a rumor.

:lol Since when did dvd players look like toys? :D

This looks like utter shit.

I think it looks pretty damn good, even the pad looks alright to me.

looks far more "next Gen" then 360 or REV.

Not dedicated, but they mentioned wanting to release an HD IP camera for the PS3, so it would need one of those ports if someone bought one.

It's not bad, and it looks pretty good when standing up for its PR photo, but most PlayStation 2's don't live that way, and PS3s won't either. The case design really needs another revision before its release, so that it looks as sleek as a Sony product is expected to look. Some of the clunkiness has got to go before the spring, and dammit, Sony, stop with the asymmetry-and-overhang business and finish the damn case! Did you run out of plastics?

to be honest, i'm not sure. i was just making a funny. although it could be true (and probably is if you ask a Nintendo fan, you know the running joke about that I'm sure. ;)
