Whoa. They are really hyping it up

That is like almost somewhat kind of in a roundabout maybe, snowball's chance in hell, specific....

The announcement of the firmware release date is this week?!
Is he talking about firmwares or in general?
It's probably best to just say the announcement of the release date is "soon."

I think the speed if fine...Typical Sony with their FW update speed....
No idea. Suggesting that there's a lot of big news coming this week. Perhaps that's part of it.
Setting your PS4's audio to PCM won't give you 5.1 in PS4's Netflix app. You have to set PS4's audio to Bitstream DTS ... or Dolby ... to get actual 5.1 in the app. I've placed my ear to my surrounds and no audio comes out when PCM is selected.
Doesn't matter, your receiver should still play the correct codec. With Bitstream DTS set on my PS4, my receiver reads Digital Plus.
What the receiver shows when playing games or sitting in the Netflix app not watching anything (it's a 7.1 receiver but the two back surrounds are currently unplugged):
And playing one of the movies in Netflix that supports it, the receiver shows it's correct:
And once you change the different set of PS4's audio options while playing a Blu-ray movie to Bitstream, you get the lovely DTS-HD LED. mmmm DTS-HD.
Planetside 2 release date incoming I can feel it.
NOOOOOO MP3 SUPPORT YET FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU SONY
I honestly do not care about a single one of those features.
And now I am sad
You shouldn't be bit streaming game audio, you want to use PCM for that so it's uncompressed.
Ah good we are back to "soon"
I was worried there for a sec they might actually release something about the FW update
Dodged a bullet there:'(
What should you use on the actual receiver? DTS? Dolby? Neo 6? I get so confused...
Never give a date you might have to move is Sony's mantra this genIf it's going to be this week, you'd think they could just say "this week".

My complaining won't make them deviate from their schedule so I guess I will have to learn a new move: patience.
This is like the achilles heel of the PS4. Xbox One will double as a time machine in the next update coming in a week and PS4 will allegedly become more "stable" with no discernible difference whatsoever in roughly 2-4 months.
Any word on if they are patching the 5.1 bug with audio for the center channel going over HDMI to your TV and not to your center channel if your using optical audio and HDMI for video?
Damn it. I thought this bump meant it was going live tomorrow and got hyped.

Looks like the video editing may not make 1.70.. gives an estimated date for the update too, let's see how close he is.

Remember when everyone complained that Sony updated the PS3 firmware too often?
Now it doesn't happen often enough. Really can't please everyone.

I find that very confusing, so when the PS4 on the OS it's actually in DTS? I much preferred how it worked on the PS3 which seemed to give you a truer representation of what codec you was getting, it would switch the amp all the time but my PS4 just says DTS for everything which is annoying.

Lol so one of the few features actually announced for this update may not even make it. This sounds like it was completely reactionary to the MS firmware news initially and now a couple weeks turns into six.

Hah. OpenSSL is listed there. Don't tell me the release of the 1.7 firmware had to be postponed because of Heartbleed??
Really hoping we can get this update done soon so that we can move on to DLNA support!
Oh, and is full multitasking still coming? Are we going to be able to have two games running and switch between them seamlessly like we currently can with Netflix?
It's because changing the audio stream is not a real solution. It's a crappy workaround.
The real way to do it is to leave the audio in PCM (default mode) and the PS4 should pass the audio track straight through to the receiver, which should detect the surround track, and decode it properly. We should not need to change to bitstream.
In fact, changing to bitstream isn't desirable for games, which output in surround sound just fine.
There's something wrong either with the Sony OS, the Netflix app, or both, but I wish someone would just fix it.
