PS4 Pro: Can this make 1080p/60fps a standard?

I wouldn't say NEVER. Just not in the near future. There will likely be a time when technologies make 4K far more affordable and 60 FPS may become commonplace.

That's when 8K takes its place. Or higher level of detail.

It will never happen, not technologically anyways. Maybe future generations will decide that 60fps is more important than fancy graphics.

Eh 60 is overrated. Im fine with anything +40. Why does it have to be one or the other? Nobody can tell the difference between 50 or 60 anyway.

This is entirely incorrect because variable framerate that is not consistent with the display's refresh rate leads to visible stutter. A lot of people can pick up on it.

I just want stable 30 or 60 frame rate. Is it so much to ask? ;;

I wonder why I can tell then.

People keep asking this every time new hardware is announced.

It'll never happen because 30fps still sells and the better IQ means better screenshots and better marketing.

Give devs more horsepower and they're going to increase IQ before they increase framerate.

Agreed. Locked 60 is a luxury that you really only get with remasters/fighters. 40+ for everything else is plenty reasonable, and nowhere near as jarring as an unlocked 30fps (Witcher, FO4).

Maybe if you're using Gsync. Otherwise, you get a huge visual boost from running locked at the refresh rate.

What?...if it is running at 30FPS is will be identical to thousands of games currently. Either you worded that poorly or you have a lacking understanding of FPS. Do you mean the consoles cannot maintain 30FPS at 4K?

Poorly worded. I don't have a lot of faith that we will suddenly see great stable frame rates on console games plus I've been playing more things on PC lately and have become more accustomed to higher fps. Playing things at 30 feels off to me now somehow. It never used to be that way and it's weird to me. I'll still get a pro eventually.

I'd say they have some part. Would have to sacrifice A LOT to push for 60 with those terrible notebook CPU's

I just saw the DF 3hours with PS4 Pro video discussion and Richard L from DF did mention that the Jaguar CPU no matter how much higher clocked they are, is still considered mobile/netbook CPU. Something which will be a bottleneck unless developers have a way around it.

Bumping this because the PS4 Pro is absolutely killing it with 1080p/60fps games, even if some only get patched later on. I'm really surprised how good and consistent the Pro support is. Best 400 bucks in gaming you can spend right now honestly.

lol i agree with you but it was a bad idea bumping this.

While i appreciate the 15-20 fps boost in BF1 over OG PS4, and the rock solid 60 fps gameplay in TitanFall and COD IW, the OP wanted everything to be 1080p 60 fps which is clearly not the case. When I built a PC midway through last gen i was able to play every Ass Creed game at 1080p 60 fps. Far Cry 3 at 60 fps. Deus Ex at 60 fps (ok 40-60) Splinter Cell and Resident Evil games at 60 fps. GTA4 at ... well, that game still ran like shit. But the point is that all those games were 30 fps on consoles and i was easily able to run them at 60 fps on my PC. (granted i spent $1,200 building it from scratch)

The only game that is 30 fps on OG PS4 and 60 fps on the Pro is Tomb Raider. Which is just awesome so it's possible but i dont know if it's become the standard. FFXV, TLG, Deus Ex are still at 30 fps.

I think Sony dropped the ball with that 30% increase in CPU power. Should have been a bigger boost than that. But their priorities were selling 4k TVs just like last gen with selling 3DTVs.
